the worst thing about the FF13 is the Story line.. it looks like they have the random topic and has a random worst story line ever.. the first story is like lightning running towards enemy than all of the sudden they turn out an enemy as well charging to also an enemy and all of them become enemy and attacking enemy each others enemy i mean WTF!
That said, now that I beat Dark Souls, I'll give FF XIII-2 a chance. Whether or not they learned their lesson: I'll find out soon enough. Wish me luck ^_~

FF13 sucked, but no matter how much it sucked FF14 was WAAAY worse. That thing was destined to SUCK BIG DONKEYBALLS! You can't take a franchise like Final Fantasy and just make it online, you just can't! Kingdom Hearts 3 NEEDS to be out already! Kingdom Hearts = AWESOME Kingdom Hearts 2 = AWESOME but then they started making all the side Kingdom Hearts games that lots of people weren't able to follow because they went onto like 3 or 4 other consoles (PS2 to Mobile Phone, Gameboy, 3DS, PSP). I got to the part in XIII when Snow and the chick with the silly side ponytail were flying around with fireworks going off, and I thought I was playing a glorified chick flick movie with swords and guns.
I liked XIII and XIII-2, but I agree it was crap compared to the other FF games I've played but I still did enjoy the game quite a lot. I guess it's all opinion though.

I have to say i agree with most of your comments, Final Fantasy XIII was a weak title, barely scrapes the requirements for it to actually be called a game. The Linearity of it, and the poor cast, let’s be fair that got less tedious with time if you could get past the ‘age’ long cut-screens and the running in a straight line. Which let’s be honest, the only games allowed to be linear in design are top down shooters!
Hinronabu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu, now in Mistwalker, are working on The Last Story, which is MUCH BETTER. Moreover, I agree with this guy on everything he says. The Enix merge brought Squaresoft down, because they lost their best. The only game with "XIII" in the title that I look forward to, is Versus XIII. It's Nomura, not Toriyama, so I'll like it.
I have so many fond memories of the old Square-soft , Enix games from when I was younger. Star Ocean, Final Fantasy 8, Tactics just to name a very few... It literally pains me to see what has become of those series. I remember feeling emotionally attached to the characters, getting absorbed in the story, falling in love with your "romance character", feeling betrayed by your best friend, loathing your arch enemy.. So sad that I feel FF13 is soulless, nothing to love about that game.
I played Final Fantasy 3 for the DS and i thought it SUUUUUUKED! I beat it tine time, and now anytime i try to play it I can't get motivated to play it. A rush of bad memories of that game comes to me every time.
Okay, we know how you feel about the Squaresoft side, but does the Enix side get a nod? They did make a few good games back in their hay-day too. One of which being Terranigma....which never saw a US release.

@777neotamakachi777 You do realise that he didnt come up with the core concept of every single Retro (therefore 'Good') Final fantasy game? FF8 for example he was the producer. When he was involved with concept though, We got great games. (FF7-9. Crono trigger for examples) .He came up with the concept for parasite eve too, so via logic he should of been involved with 3rd birthday.It would of been a much better game then. So i agree with you, but disagree with them being key to a good game. XD

the only good final fantasy game that came out was practically Dissida (every fans dream and Fanfiction came to life, where a what if our favourites such as Cloud and Cecil meet for the very first time)
Final Fantasy fell when the original creator left but the good news is he created his company Mistwalker (check it out you'll love it more then What Square Enix has)
I didn't touch XIII but I was getting a little excited about XIII 2. I played the demo for 2 and I couldnt get over that battle system. IT SUCKS. I will never touch XIII or that sequel.
@halo3vscod1 I agree with you. I went from Squaresoft to Atlus, mainly because Square Enix gives fuck all about their fans, something Atlus never do. I love Atlus, it represents everything that Square should have been today, rather than what is has become instead! ;(
From what you are describing it starting to look more and more like Sqenix is being run by marketeers who are seemingly out of touch with the feedback of their customers.
The majority of the company budget seems to go to adds and not their product.
Square Enix now runs pretty similar like Acclaim and Midway before they went bust.
Now that Squaresoft and Enix are the same company, the competition is gone. Why bother coming up with good ideas when you can just ride your name? I haven't even bothered to so much as look at Square Enix games in years, and I regret nothing.
I saw this and posted a comment on Facebook, but I have to say it here too, where more people will see it. Dragon Quest IX, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Dragon Quest VI, all sold over a million copies. FF13 sold over 5.5 million, Just Cause 2 sold just under 1 million copies. Tons decent Square Enix games right there.
The problem is that Square Enix still makes tons and tons of money. Its one thing to diss them, but as long as we keep BUYING, they'll keep making...shit.
@AndurilWielder it sold alot cuz it was so overhyped with how it was gonna be the first great ff on ps3 and lightning as the woman version of cloud and the battle system which they changed into shit in the games release and all that.
you cant compare those games with ff13 in terms of sale. it had the hype of being the 6 year long production of the first ff game to appear on the ps3. it was at the time where everyone thought maybe it would be good again.

Well I must say Square wan't perfect. I like the game but FF VIII did have a very flawed battle system IMO but yeah compared to FF XIII it's FF IX levels of good. They need to get there shit together. Though I will give them this. The psps port of FF IV was awsome.

Final Fantasy XIII isn't that bad but it could be better. i mean the graphics are just overall fantastic, the storyline is a bit confusing, but other than that it was ok, Characters look great, the battle system is well kind of same, but quite new at the same time and the character leveling is quite like FFX but at the same time it's not. the main flaw in the game in my opinion is that it doesn't have a map exploration like in the older ones with all the towns and what not. it needs to be there!
@ForsakenMathias of course it's just my opinion. you need not take it as "The truth", though i do admit the older ones are better in my opinion, more characters, map exploration, levels and most importantly the story, you know the good stuff.
lol, I don't see what's so wrong with FF XIII. Yeah I liked it. Not one of the best, sure, but it's good. Story is confusing, but the battle system is very fun, the music is excellent, and I like the characters. I plan to replay it sometime so I can try to understand the story a bit more though, lol. (Seriously, XIII has the best battle music in any FF game IMO)
@Bonzardo True. I really don't get how people can enjoy that game, or even put it on the same level as the older FF titles (which is fuckin ridiculous). It isn't really an opinion with this game that it's DEFINATELY the stupidest and most dissappointing FF ever released. I remember the moments where reviews just got online for the japanese release and even THEY, THE JAPANESE FANBASE were rating it 1 or 2 stars on amazon. Hell man, if the japanese don't dig it, then that says it all.

Go play Lost Odyssey... only takes one hour to get to "Hanna's Departure". When I got through that, that was the major thing that broke me out of my nostalgic stupidity. It not only surpassed, but ANNIHILATED everything I thought was good about character development and storylines in all those old-school RPGs that I'd obnoxiously sit on message boards fanboy-ing.

I used to be nostalgia blind enough to think old=good and new=bad... then I went back and played a lot of older games and yeah... awful translations, soulless environments, abysmal statistic balances, boring dungeons, laughable gameplay elements, and horribly sequenced plot dev. segments just jumped out at me.
With the nostalgia blinders off, I was able to enjoy FF13 quite a bit... and unless you're drunken beyond logical cognitive functioning, FF6 is the only good 2D FF game. Yeah, I said it.
XIII was a disgrace. It's terrible. XII was incredible, the most immersive FF to date. Look what they've done to Front Mission? I'm worried about Versus XIII, it's taking too long. Squaresoft lost their spark years ago. No one asked for XII-2, their making games what their fans don't want.

the reason i played 13 was always because of lighting , the early trailers it was only lighting so that why i got it, and in one trailer i think it was the very first one , they showed a little gameplay,and how they showcased , made it look like it had kh gameplay. so i really had to get it then,but it just didnt feel like a regular ff, the screaming , felt like ff lol. i just didnt like that you where on the run, I just liked lighting, i didnt even beat the game yet lol
Final Fantasy jumping ship to Sony was pretty much all the reason I needed to leave Nintendo back in the day. I recently decided to get into FF13 after seeing how good FF13-2 and FFversus13 both look.
I watch this video every time I replay an old FF game and realize how crappy XIII was xD. I did like the story though. and Lightning is a cool character.

Honestly I didnt really hate Final Fantasy XIII. And yeah Ive played almost every other game in the series except V. What really killed it for me was the linearity. I would have loved it if they had more sidequests in the game. Maybe pertaining to some of the information in the Bestiary information thing. They could have put maybe more ruined cities and stuff like that city vanille and sazh were in to kill the linearity. Im kinda looking forward to XIII 2. IX is my favorite of the series.
I agree. I'll admit, I got FF13 and was let down. I'm only in the Gapra Whitewood and it's boring or hard as hell. I'd rather grind the ass off my characters and level them up the old fashioned way then be herded into scenario after scenario. Ff13 was pretty, and visually, I loved the settings, music, and graphical strength. The characters are pretty one-dimensional and hard to empathize with. FFvs13 looks like it'll be good, and it seems FF10 was the last good one until the bad stuff came...
Square Enix didn't develop Mindjack, they published it. feelplus made the game. Despite contrary belief, publishing and developing are two different things.
square enix - just remake ff6 and 7 for crying out loud, don't make overpriced movie style games, and please try and speed up the process of making games. people can't be bothered to wait 3+ years just to get disappointed.

First of all, it's a squad based FPS developed by in Japan BY the same guys that made the Yakuza series so you know it's gonna be quality at least in terms of story. Plus your squad members can betray you if they don't trust you. Some won't follow your commands, everybody has a personality. I think it's a big deal.

@itachiitachi1946 That's like saying Versus 13 will be bad because 13 was bad. 13 and Versus 13 are not developed by the same team. The company that develops the game doesn't always matter. It breaks down into teams and the split of Versus XIII and 13 is a great example of that.

@itachiitachi1946 MGR is a spinoff, there's no DmC level reboot plot ruination bullshit going on. It doesn't try to be anything but it's own thing. It's still in the MGS universe but has NOTHING to do with the canon plotline. Also, Kojima Productions is behind the story.

I have to say i agree with most of your comments, Final Fantasy XIII was a weak title, barely scrapes the requirements for it to actually be called a game. The Linearity of it, and the poor cast, let’s be fair that got less tedious with time if you could get past the ‘age’ long cut-screens and the running in a straight line. Which let’s be honest, the only games allowed to be linear in design are top down shooters!

Hinronabu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu, now in Mistwalker, are working on The Last Story, which is MUCH BETTER. Moreover, I agree with this guy on everything he says. The Enix merge brought Squaresoft down, because they lost their best. The only game with "XIII" in the title that I look forward to, is Versus XIII. It's Nomura, not Toriyama, so I'll like it.

I have so many fond memories of the old Square-soft , Enix games from when I was younger. Star Ocean, Final Fantasy 8, Tactics just to name a very few... It literally pains me to see what has become of those series. I remember feeling emotionally attached to the characters, getting absorbed in the story, falling in love with your "romance character", feeling betrayed by your best friend, loathing your arch enemy.. So sad that I feel FF13 is soulless, nothing to love about that game.

I'm glad they brought him back. I love his music.
Now, if they had Kitase, Sakaguchi and Nobuo working on one title... Then we'd be back in business. Those three brought us FF3-10, Tactics and Chrono Trigger.
The company started to get lost around the time enix merged, when they made crap like unlimited saga and FFX-2.

When he was involved with concept though, We got great games. (FF7-9. Crono trigger for examples) .He came up with the concept for parasite eve too, so via logic he should of been involved with 3rd birthday.It would of been a much better game then. So i agree with you, but disagree with them being key to a good game. XD

I saw this and posted a comment on Facebook, but I have to say it here too, where more people will see it. Dragon Quest IX, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Dragon Quest VI, all sold over a million copies. FF13 sold over 5.5 million, Just Cause 2 sold just under 1 million copies. Tons decent Square Enix games right there.
The problem is that Square Enix still makes tons and tons of money. Its one thing to diss them, but as long as we keep BUYING, they'll keep making...shit.

Final Fantasy XIII isn't that bad but it could be better. i mean the graphics are just overall fantastic, the storyline is a bit confusing, but other than that it was ok, Characters look great, the battle system is well kind of same, but quite new at the same time and the character leveling is quite like FFX but at the same time it's not. the main flaw in the game in my opinion is that it doesn't have a map exploration like in the older ones with all the towns and what not. it needs to be there!

Story is confusing, but the battle system is very fun, the music is excellent, and I like the characters. I plan to replay it sometime so I can try to understand the story a bit more though, lol. Go play Lost Odyssey... only takes one hour to get to "Hanna's Departure". When I got through that, that was the major thing that broke me out of my nostalgic stupidity. I used to be nostalgia blind enough to think old=good and new=bad... then I went back and played a lot of older games and yeah... awful translations, soulless environments, abysmal statistic balances, boring dungeons, laughable gameplay elements, and horribly sequenced plot dev. segments just jumped out at me.
With the nostalgia blinders off, I was able to enjoy FF13 quite a bit... and unless you're drunken beyond logical cognitive functioning, FF6 is the only good 2D FF game. Yeah, I said it.

XIII was a disgrace. It's terrible. XII was incredible, the most immersive FF to date. Look what they've done to Front Mission? I'm worried about Versus XIII, it's taking too long. Squaresoft lost their spark years ago. No one asked for XII-2, their making games what their fans don't want.

the reason i played 13 was always because of lighting , the early trailers it was only lighting so that why i got it, and in one trailer i think it was the very first one , they showed a little gameplay,and how they showcased , made it look like it had kh gameplay. so i really had to get it then,but it just didnt feel like a regular ff, the screaming , felt like ff lol. i just didnt like that you where on the run, I just liked lighting, i didnt even beat the game yet lol

Honestly I didnt really hate Final Fantasy XIII. And yeah Ive played almost every other game in the series except V. What really killed it for me was the linearity. I would have loved it if they had more sidequests in the game. Maybe pertaining to some of the information in the Bestiary information thing. They could have put maybe more ruined cities and stuff like that city vanille and sazh were in to kill the linearity. Im kinda looking forward to XIII 2. IX is my favorite of the series.

I agree. I'll admit, I got FF13 and was let down. I'm only in the Gapra Whitewood and it's boring or hard as hell. I'd rather grind the ass off my characters and level them up the old fashioned way then be herded into scenario after scenario. Ff13 was pretty, and visually, I loved the settings, music, and graphical strength. The characters are pretty one-dimensional and hard to empathize with. FFvs13 looks like it'll be good, and it seems FF10 was the last good one until the bad stuff came...

square enix - just remake ff6 and 7 for crying out loud, don't make overpriced movie style games, and please try and speed up the process of making games. people can't be bothered to wait 3+ years just to get disappointed.
*sigh* I'm even now resorting to other game companies like Namco (tales of), Koie (disgaea) and so on, 'cos even they are pleasing me more than the other 3 are now.

First of all, it's a squad based FPS developed by in Japan BY the same guys that made the Yakuza series so you know it's gonna be quality at least in terms of story. Plus your squad members can betray you if they don't trust you. Some won't follow your commands, everybody has a personality. I think it's a big deal.

@itachiitachi1946 That's like saying Versus 13 will be bad because 13 was bad. 13 and Versus 13 are not developed by the same team. The company that develops the game doesn't always matter. It breaks down into teams and the split of Versus XIII and 13 is a great example of that.

@itachiitachi1946 MGR is a spinoff, there's no DmC level reboot plot ruination bullshit going on. It doesn't try to be anything but it's own thing. It's still in the MGS universe but has NOTHING to do with the canon plotline. Also, Kojima Productions is behind the story.
I'll give you that RE and SH are terrible now though. I'll give you that one.

@W0BN1AR (2)so to sum it up no NO! those games didnt deliver something good.they dont seem promising just decent(best one of the games u refered is asuras wrath BUT(and pay attention to that but)i have a feeling asuras wrath gonna be a very mediocre game.bad with jap developers is their society..so distant...so..robotic..so unfaced no feeling NO PASSION their society changes(comparing it to 90's)they live in an enviroment that dont generate PASSION AND WILL 4 GREAT GAMESif u know what i mean.
