I think your argument, chowmein911, is overly reductive. You clearly think the carbon footprint argument is a tax-grabbing scam. Fine, but Woudhuysen's position (as he's expanded on elsewhere) is that, insofar as greenhouse gases etc are man-made, our global footprint should, as a consequence, be BIGGER, contra the greens who think we're all going to hell in handcart so long as we believe in our technical ingenuity in overcoming the problems they (the greens) routinely exaggerate.

carbon dioxide has no effect on global warming whatsoever - its a natural greenhouse gas! fluctuations in temperature have ALWAYS happened due to solar activity on the sun.
