What a pitty he was guilty this is probably the most epic achievement in the world of any endurance sport ever to tke 5 mins over the best riders in the world, guys with vo2maxes in the high 80s on a single stage when you are a top GC rider is unbelievable this would have overshadowed even Lances exploits were it not for the drugs.I think though looking at that he looks so fresh as soon as he gets off the bike that I think it indicates how good drugs really make an athlete he still had more.
Dope addicted, mini-brains with no discernible sense of ethical behavior (riders and fans alike) have ruined a sport I loved. Goddamn cheating a-holes and the imbeciles that think it's all OK because "everyone does it" make me sick. No matter what is "won" you're ultimately pathetic losers.
Fucking awesome how he decimated everyone like that after he was left for dead the day before. And it’s pretty incredible how drugs can have such a profound effect on physical performance. From what I read his hematocrit level went from ~44ml at the start of the tour to almost 49ml for stage 17.
Well when pretty much everyone in your sport is doping you either dope and maybe have a chance at winning or not dope and lose. And make no mistake you will lose competing against using athletes. It’s sad by true.
im doing a 12 page paper on doping and cycling. Floyds story is a big portion of my paper. like Mickoholland said they were prob ALL doped. I still think this is an amazing return...pulling back 7 minutes on the hardest stage. simply amazing.
@Bhousm76 hi how are you? i would like to read your 12 pages when you have writing them. i think they and many of the sports use performance enhancers. they are under a great deal of pressure to perform they all want to make the big money. i'm almost 50 and thinking of using enhancers would it be cheating when your half a century old.i would like to know what they are using. thanks for reading.
They should legalise all drugs to make it 'Fair' for all cyclists, then we will see a whole new show of cycling. Make it more entertaining for TV viewers too
I have personally ate the POWER BAR ( legal advantage ) i don't see why Any Rider would DOPE because i had Plenty of Power after i consumed the POWER BAR yes even in a Short amount of time !
Lance was Floyd's mentor. These guys sleep in the same motel & most of the time in same rooms. I'm sure he saw Lance do it & the only difference is Floyd got caught. Why? Floyd did not bribe the organization that conducts the test.
it was revealed that Armstrong did indeed make two donations to the UCI totaling US$125,000. Now the feds are on the case, and as
@SuprimaFalcon Question : Doping does it make a difference by seconds or minutes - If Floyd Landis wins by a Large or Moderate Margin then DOPING would NOT mean Anything He Still would of Won the tour Fair
Blood doping via EPO (drug stimulates kidneys into producing red blood cells) or blood transfusion can give an endurance athlete a massive advantage. It can turn a mid-pack performer into a World Champion. Testosterone helps speed recovery, stimulates muscle growth and endurance. I think Floyd was on HGH, testosterone and EPO but then again what rider isn’t? I’m 99.9% sure Lance Armstrong (DOPEstrong) is on the dope.
The Tour is like watching the WWE these days - after 5 hrs of racing in the heat they ride like they just got on their bikes. Beautiful sport - disgraceful/unethical athletes.
what a mess cycling has become. Yes the top ten are dopers but it's all equal because they're all doping. The same people would win if no one was doping except the avg speed would be lower. now lance is part of a federal investigation. doesn't this country have more important things to worry about? like a 1.5 trillion dollar deficit? thanks Floyd for putting cycling in an even lower status among all other sports -- asshole. Good thing I never believed that you were innocent.
I don't think the outcomes would be the same without dope and I certainly don't think Lance Armstrong would have won without it. There are so many lies surrounding the guy its mind boggling; he's a fraud. All the crap about LA having a superior physiology after cancer was proven a lie. The idea that he’s never tested positive is a lie. He’s been getting away with cheating because of his status but hopefully the truth will finally come out upon the fed investigation.
Landis is a disgrace. After all those years of trying to clear his name, he now admits he did cheat. He took people's money for his defence fund and now is trying to drag the likes of Lance Armstrong & George Hincapie down with him. I agree with the guy who feels he should be jailed for his many deceptions. Oscar Pereiro won the Tour in fairytale fashion and now at last should get belated full recognition from many Americans who were sure Landis was a victim of European victimisation.
@Robultronic Pereiro was doped, proof is his anemic performance years later. Last year was so bad Alberto told him to stay home and not ride the Tour (they were on the same team).
So what you're saying is, your sport is done, finished, because it's full of cheating assholes who care more about winning than integrity. Cycling is a joke now internationally. It's laughed at. And with comments like yours, i can see why

And now he comes out and admits that he was doped (big surprise, huh?: ). And he is so fucking scared to take responsibility for he's actions that he tries to drag all the biggest U.S riders down with him, just to get rid of the negative attention he was due now that he admitted doping. (and right in the middle of the biggest bike race in the U.S.. hmm).
Marion Jones ended up in fucking prison.. and she never scammed any1 for money.
Well... i don't think anyone really gets surprised anymore when athletes get caught for doping, right? And also, i think alot of people don't get too upset anymore when cheaters get caught (myself included... atleast to an extent!).
BUT this is completely different imo... i have rarely seen an athlete go to such lengths to prove his innocence. He's been on talk shows... radio shows... created a website... and even started the "Floyd Fairness Fund"... Fairness LMFAO, good one Floyd.
lol..sorry. i know people have a passion for the sport, or in any sport. I'm only 20, no need to dope, BUT..if everyone doped liked they wanted to, and had no restrictions, then we can get on with our lives. Keep doing the races, who's the craziest on dope?? Then that would be one hell of a race. there would be incredible hulks crossing the finish lines or knocking the ball out of the park, out of this world.
Denied doping for the last 4 years, gets caught hacking computers related to his doping case, has an arrest warrant issued, and has accused just about every one of the top cyclists.
Landis is a butthurt little girl who is mad because her illegal activities blew up in her face. His credibility is more fucked than a gang bang porn star.
People like to forget that Lance Armstrong doesn't need to race anymore. He retired once already. It's not like he needs the money.
All the best dope one way or another...all the drugs do is give you an edge in recovery, how is that different from altitude training (where the idea is to increase the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood)? These things don't automatically make you the best. Everyone wants the upper hand and will find it whether it comes to training, equipment, nutrition, etc. The guy is still a legend and so is armstrong (bet you one day it will come out that he doped)
what a dip shit, just admitted he doped and tried to bring Armstrong down with him... it is funny how the French have tried to prove for years Armstrong was doping but never could (probably because he was not), but they had no problem proving Landis is a piece of crap cheater.
Lance Armstrong tested positive for EPO 8 fucking times in 99!!! After 99' he stopped EPO because better testing methods came out so he switched to blood transfusions. To date there is still no reliable testing method for blood transfusions when using one’s own blood. However, his blood values have been all over the place during the course of his races which indicate something is defiantly not right. Hematocrit levels aren't supposed to rise immediately upon strenuous exercise
what a patetic man..Trying to bring down all his former friends.. He`s been categorically denying doping since he was caught. Then suddenly he`s had a revelation or whatever? Good god, how credible! Maybe he should go back to his amishlife...
And this is our society's problem: people are eager for entertainment and don't care what athletes are going through. it's like with the gladiators in Roman times.
Funny... Will Geoghan did blackmailing on Lemond to stop his testimonies...
Arnie Baker has been linked with the hacking of French lab, French Police want to hear him.
Who could believe that Landis could have dropped Kessler who had stayed in Floyd's wheel all stage along and who had received a blood transfusion for that TDF in Freiburg as stated by German Police.
Difficult to win when you was doped... just have a look on cycling forum, at the beginning most people believed he was clean then they became sure he doped especially after the retesting of his samples from other stages which had Testosterone too, and most important his blood values are very very similar to blood doping.
Since he is back on his bike we can see that without hot-sauce he cannot go so fast.
there is no way he doped if everyone read the book no one would think he doped. the french just didn't want him to win again because it would have been the 11th win of the U.S. in 21 years
How could you believe with less cyclists than France or Italia or Spain, US riders could win so much TDF?
The only clean TDF wins were done by Lemond.
There is no doubt that Armstrong and Landis were juiced with EPO and later with blood transfusion.
Is it normal to have a 48% hematocrit at the end of TDF without doping for athletes with 41 or 43 % natural hematocrit? Only doping can increase it by such amount.
Just go back in 1993 to see what has done on his first TDF without EPO!
I like Floyd Landis and I dont think he's a bad guy really. How come you think he cheated anymore than the other dudes behind him that were all at Human Plasma in Austria and still are?>
Didnt you read "From Lance TO Landis" by David Walsh. Its a super accurate and easy to read book. Its peer reviewed and David really doesnt get anything wrong. You should order it off of Amazon.
He really wasnt that much "better." It was a stage, with thousands and thousands of feet, climbing. The pack really cant work with one another on a stage that either goes up, or down like that.
He probably took a "refill" of his own blood right before the stage or the night before, to jack all the way whereas the others did not think to do so or were out of packed red cells from previous days.
If you think Floyd doped, then you need to read his book to get all the facts. His testosterone level was not out of the normal range. It was the ratio of testosterone to another hormone that he failed. He also showed signs of synthetic testosterone in his retests. This is a drug that is absorbed through the skin. Anyone could have touched him with a little AndroGel on their hand and given him this failing result. At 4:20 min you see one of the fans touching him as he races.
To be accurate he was accused of doping with synthetic testosterone. The T/E ration is just a screening test before the detection of the drug with an Isotope Ratio Mass Spectometry (IRMS).
But USADA put some salient points about the usage of blood manipulation like big jump of hematocrit only achievable by extern or chemical means
doping doesn't make the difference, as all athletes are full. but from time to time, they calculate incorrectly and get tested positively. bad luck. still one of the greatest tour stages for me. great attack. great tactics. courage, guts! for me, he is still the 2006 winner of the tour. in addition he had such an incredibly weak team... floyd rules!
only 1 vile out of 9 showed he cheated and even that wasn't proven. Even Lance said there's more proof that he didn't do it than there is that proved he did.
maybe if u payed attention to what actually happened u would realize how ignorant u sound the freakin people at the tour de france were pissed an american won their sport seven times in a row and the couldnt prove that lance armstrong cheated so when another american came back and won and they got a false positive on one of their tests THEY RAILROADED him they had no real proof he cheated but instead leaked to the press the result and he was screwed over by bad publicity from then on
i bet the thing he was injected with was the same thing they put into van damme in universal soldier movie, you know, he needed to be cool just like floyd
That was a great breakawy by Floyd. It was very nice to see that stage and his pure uncompromising will to win .
For all the people who say all cyclists use drugs...It´s propable, but only with the use of doping you can´t win a stage a tour and you can´t finish a race. It´s all about hard training and hard races.
Now the French are subpoenaing Landis to come to France so they can wring him out and hang him up in front of the world again? Don't they ever quit? I think eating snails all those years has affected their thinking processes. Attention France: Give it a rest please. They tried really hard to drag Lance down into the muck, now they're still biting at Landis? Mon dieu!
I don't really care that much about the FACT that he was doped... At least 50% of the others were doped as well... And when i say i don't care, I mean that this stage was the most entertaining stage in the history of cycling. Of course I would prefer if all the riders were clean, but let's face it. That's never going to happen. Still, it is the natural action to exclude everyone that tests positive for doping. It's a shame that Landis turned out to be one of "the bad guyes", i really liked him
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Floyd probably just left the "patch" on too long.
The top riders blood dope with their own blood which gives a huge 02 carrying increase.
02 carrying drugs make a huge difference, stuff similar to the Actovegin, Hemopure, oxyglobin, etc. Not the same drugs though because those obvious ones are tested for.
Floyd didn't win this Tour because he doped. Yes, I think he doped. But it's also been proven the guy that got third doped, and the guy that won the KOM doped for certain. Many more doped also, just not proven.
No, Floyd won because he had great strategy. He lost time on Stage 16, but got some rest in on that day. On Stage 17 he attacked at the right time which caught others off guard, who waited too long to chase. He also made up time on the descents, as solo riders can descend faster.
@CyclingVault please do not condone doping. the people who didnt dope did not test positive the people who did dope, did test positive and were in the top 5 of the race which proves that doping does work.
@turnbacktime - Sorry for any confusion. You're not saying that doping controls catches all dopers and is foolproof though, are you?
I agree with you that doping works. I'm mostly just saying that Floyd wasn't the only one who doped here, just the one who got caught (at this time, others caught in future races).
@zenmachinefilms drug testing has improved so much since the balco scandal that its damn near impossible to mask an illegal substance. if you're catching the top 5 racers of the tdf, you're pretty much catching everyone, because the guy's who came 15-20th didnt test positive. why would we assume that they also took drugs if they passed the test and lost the race? many racers test positive, its only significant when the winner fails the test because he gains a lot of money from the win.
100% of the csc, astana, caissde de epargne , euskatel, liquigas, quickstep , columbia or all the old telekom drivers are doped , thats not a secret. everybody with a bit brain knows it.
Why can a person lose 10 minutes one day and not make time up the next? This is role reversal, clearly the other teams were not chasing hard and Landis has a good day climbing and DESTROYS people on descents and he took some time back. He lost time the day before and the teams chasing lost time the day after, it is the SAME thing. if you can lose 10 minutes one day why can't somebody else lose 8 minutes the next day as well? and to say testosterone was the reason he won......witch hunt anyone?

Postie218 1 year ago

TheZachish 1 year ago
@TheZachish

His book is a lot about how unfair the system is. It is almost impossible to win the way the USADA is set up.
particlenerd99 2 years ago
Funny... Will Geoghan did blackmailing on Lemond to stop his testimonies...
Arnie Baker has been linked with the hacking of French lab, French Police want to hear him.
Who could believe that Landis could have dropped Kessler who had stayed in Floyd's wheel all stage along and who had received a blood transfusion for that TDF in Freiburg as stated by German Police.
hghepo 2 years ago 2
Difficult to win when you was doped... just have a look on cycling forum, at the beginning most people believed he was clean then they became sure he doped especially after the retesting of his samples from other stages which had Testosterone too, and most important his blood values are very very similar to blood doping.
Since he is back on his bike we can see that without hot-sauce he cannot go so fast.

beavervalley1 2 years ago
How could you believe with less cyclists than France or Italia or Spain, US riders could win so much TDF?
The only clean TDF wins were done by Lemond.
There is no doubt that Armstrong and Landis were juiced with EPO and later with blood transfusion.
Is it normal to have a 48% hematocrit at the end of TDF without doping for athletes with 41 or 43 % natural hematocrit? Only doping can increase it by such amount.
Just go back in 1993 to see what has done on his first TDF without EPO!

I like Floyd Landis and I dont think he's a bad guy really. How come you think he cheated anymore than the other dudes behind him that were all at Human Plasma in Austria and still are?>
mustardjunkie 2 years ago
yep, in my opinion, floyd never cheated before that stage, but pereiro did, so this stage actually showed, how much better floyd was ;)
MrGrunz 2 years ago
Haha, I dont think so.
Didnt you read "From Lance TO Landis" by David Walsh. Its a super accurate and easy to read book. Its peer reviewed and David really doesnt get anything wrong. You should order it off of Amazon.
mustardjunkie 2 years ago
but when floyd doped before, I don't get, how he was so much better on stage 17 than on all the other stages before
MrGrunz 2 years ago
He really wasnt that much "better." It was a stage, with thousands and thousands of feet, climbing. The pack really cant work with one another on a stage that either goes up, or down like that.
He probably took a "refill" of his own blood right before the stage or the night before, to jack all the way whereas the others did not think to do so or were out of packed red cells from previous days.
mustardjunkie 2 years ago 3
yea floyd is cheater, but i like this video :D

he is a cheat.. anyone who knows about pro-cycling knows that he cheated
prd111 2 years ago
If you think Floyd doped, then you need to read his book to get all the facts. His testosterone level was not out of the normal range. It was the ratio of testosterone to another hormone that he failed. He also showed signs of synthetic testosterone in his retests. This is a drug that is absorbed through the skin. Anyone could have touched him with a little AndroGel on their hand and given him this failing result. At 4:20 min you see one of the fans touching him as he races.
BHallBrowser 2 years ago
That guy touching him is probably who put the AndroGel on him he was a fan of that french team. It all makes perfect sense...
jrg5683 2 years ago
But how could you explain his blood values corresponding to blood manipulation (EPO or blood transfusion)?
hghepo 2 years ago 2
He wasn't accused of blood doping he was accused of an abnormal testosterone to epitestosterone ratio.
jrg5683 2 years ago
To be accurate he was accused of doping with synthetic testosterone. The T/E ration is just a screening test before the detection of the drug with an Isotope Ratio Mass Spectometry (IRMS).
But USADA put some salient points about the usage of blood manipulation like big jump of hematocrit only achievable by extern or chemical means

maybe if u payed attention to what actually happened u would realize how ignorant u sound the freakin people at the tour de france were pissed an american won their sport seven times in a row and the couldnt prove that lance armstrong cheated so when another american came back and won and they got a false positive on one of their tests THEY RAILROADED him they had no real proof he cheated but instead leaked to the press the result and he was screwed over by bad publicity from then on

TommekeTommeke 2 years ago 3
Now the French are subpoenaing Landis to come to France so they can wring him out and hang him up in front of the world again? Don't they ever quit? I think eating snails all those years has affected their thinking processes. Attention France: Give it a rest please. They tried really hard to drag Lance down into the muck, now they're still biting at Landis? Mon dieu!
barbixy 2 years ago
I don't really care that much about the FACT that he was doped... At least 50% of the others were doped as well... And when i say i don't care, I mean that this stage was the most entertaining stage in the history of cycling. Of course I would prefer if all the riders were clean, but let's face it. That's never going to happen. Still, it is the natural action to exclude everyone that tests positive for doping. It's a shame that Landis turned out to be one of "the bad guyes", i really liked him

Rishawish 2 years ago
They breathe pure oxygen for days before a race, that's an undetectable form of doping.
aaronfromhastings 2 years ago 6
Floyd didn't win this Tour because he doped. Yes, I think he doped. But it's also been proven the guy that got third doped, and the guy that won the KOM doped for certain. Many more doped also, just not proven.
No, Floyd won because he had great strategy. He lost time on Stage 16, but got some rest in on that day. On Stage 17 he attacked at the right time which caught others off guard, who waited too long to chase. He also made up time on the descents, as solo riders can descend faster.
CyclingVault 2 years ago 8
@CyclingVault please do not condone doping. the people who didnt dope did not test positive the people who did dope, did test positive and were in the top 5 of the race which proves that doping does work.
turnbacktime 1 year ago
@turnbacktime - Sorry for any confusion. You're not saying that doping controls catches all dopers and is foolproof though, are you?
I agree with you that doping works. I'm mostly just saying that Floyd wasn't the only one who doped here, just the one who got caught (at this time, others caught in future races).
Unless you're
zenmachinefilms 1 year ago
@zenmachinefilms drug testing has improved so much since the balco scandal that its damn near impossible to mask an illegal substance. if you're catching the top 5 racers of the tdf, you're pretty much catching everyone, because the guy's who came 15-20th didnt test positive. why would we assume that they also took drugs if they passed the test and lost the race? many racers test positive, its only significant when the winner fails the test because he gains a lot of money from the win.

Everybody is complaining about the great 'comeback' of landis.
But exacly, he had a bad day, and like most riders a bad/good day becomes before a good/bad day
Sastre is riding 2 'good' days behind eachother, wouldn;t that makes him more of a doper then landis? they guy won 4 min in 2 days, Ladis loses 2.
dopertje 2 years ago 10
Why can a person lose 10 minutes one day and not make time up the next? This is role reversal, clearly the other teams were not chasing hard and Landis has a good day climbing and DESTROYS people on descents and he took some time back. He lost time the day before and the teams chasing lost time the day after, it is the SAME thing. if you can lose 10 minutes one day why can't somebody else lose 8 minutes the next day as well? and to say testosterone was the reason he won......witch hunt anyone?
