Orwell proves that the wise man is not a man measured by his wallet, social status, or political affiliation, but rather by his unbending, unyielding need and quest for truth regardless of the pitfalls or promise. That wisdom holds no price tag, yet comes at the highest of costs.
The narrator reports that "Nothing was damaged", regarding his gun shot wound to the throat, this is incorrect. One of his vocal chords was damaged and rendered incapacitated. He was told by his doctors at the time he would never speak again, luckily this was not the case and he was able to regain his voice as his one working vocal chord compensated for the other.
The Complete Patriot's Guide to Oligarchical Collectivism: its Theory and Practice states there are four types of people in the world according to mentality; idiots, zealots, elitists and patriots.
Orwell went to Spain in December 1936, not December 1937 as this says. It is an important difference because it meant he was in Barcelona for the 'May Days' in 1937 when the Stalinists attempted to crush POUM and the anarchists of the CNT-FAI (with whom Orwell subsequently said he would rather have been).
During the 30's when so many intellectuals on the European left were prepared to support Stalin's soviet union Orwell was a writer of integrity who denounced totalitarianism in all its forms. Animal Farm and 1984 remain two of the best works ever written to expose both the betrayal of revolutionary ideas and totalitarian tyranny. His was the voice of honesty and humanity versus dictatorial fanaticism.
Totally agree. I think if you add Ayn Rand, then I think you understand the con game that the communist offered. Rand showed, unlike most intellectuals of the time, that communism, was not an ideal, but was flawed in it's function, it makes man ultimately less than what he is. 'Each according to his means, each according to his needs' might seem like christianity, but is a cynical manipulation. They want control, they must be stopped.
Orwell is one of the few figures of the 20th Century you can look back on with admiration, admire him completely. A certain hero and genius. Immortal...

Wallington is in Hertfordshire, not Herefordshire. What other factual errors in this film?
