I was in 1st grade when Kennedy died in Texas. Then Vietnam. Ruined the beauty of American life. Till then we believed that our government was truly ours. We believed in the things this music brings out. That is why I love music prior to around 65. It reminds me of a time when people gave a damn about others and helped each other out.
I grew up in the 50's & I can honestly say it was a very unique time. I am just sorry it had to change Why? The music & songwriters were the greatest, funny back then was really funny. Not like "unfunny" David Letterman. I mean our comedians were hilarious....Johnathan Winters, Carole Burnet, goes on & on, too many to name. It seems like life took a nose dive sinece then. I feel sorry for our young people these days.
@Janette3621 Don't feel sorry for all the young people. I'm 16, and I love 50's music. Their are some kids my age out there who love this kind of music. 50's music will never die!!!!!! :)
I'm 19 and have loved it since I was young, first piece of music I ever bought was an Elvis Presley Greatest Hits LP to play on my second hand record player^^.
I turned 50 last year. I remember seeing "AG" in Junior High when it first came out. This music brought back alot of memories. I remember the ending bothered me back in 1973 because I thought it was some sort of true story and those characters really died or went missing. ......In 2004 they played "AG" at the Harrahs auto show case in Reno, Nevada. Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, and Paul LeMat did a great job interacting with the fans.
I was born at the wrong time :( I wish I lived in this era! I'm 13 and all my friends think I'm weird because I love this kinda stuff. I just can't help it!(:
I got the opportunity to meet Candy in Person at the World Of Wheels in Winnipeg! American Graffiti is my way of life, i just wish i had the cars and diner to go with it!
Nope. Actually there's a YouTube video interview with the guy who bought the Ford right after the movie was filmed - and he still owns it.
Check out my video of "American Graffiti 35", and you'll see the '58 Ford, plus the Phay-roahs' Mercury and Suzanne Sommers '56 T-Bird on display in 2008 - at the annual American Graffiti celebration in Petaluma (where American Graffiti was filmed) .
I went to a car show in Newport, WA where they had the original '58 Impala from the the movie. It hasn't been touched since the movie was filmed, even the air in the rear tires is the same!!!!!! Amazing experience...... It was almost like walking up and laying a hand on Marilyn Monroe!!!!!! LOL
@fab4fan4ever64 Oh, yeah...... seriously!!!!!!! They also had the Pharoah's Mercury, Milner's coupe, and the little red speedster that the guy hops into before Milner goes to chase down the car load of girls, but they were all replicas. But, the neat thing about them was, Bo Hopkins, Candy Clark, and Paul Le Mat had all autographed the dash boards in the cars. I have pictures of the whole thing. Awesome thing to see.......
Great song! Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids later appeared on an episode of Happy Days, then in '76 did a song with the Wolfman called,"Did You Boogie With Your Baby",and it all started with American Graffiti !
When I was 10 years old my parents used to play this album.
Back then there was a soccer team in our league that had a girl on it. I thought it was cool that a chick played soccer on a boys team. Susan Jacobs was her name. I thought she was cute with her shorts and shin guards.
So now I'll always remember Susan Jacobs whenever I hear this song.
ok here is something for you all, I lived two blocks from the guy who owned the hot rod that was raced against harrison ford... No SH**!! I ran passed his house for two years, and finally asked him about it.. According to him, he was offered xxx amount of dollars to let them use the rod, he agreed, and the rest is history... did I drive it? no.. but I did sit in it... a really nice guy...
I wonder how big this song would've been if it were recorded 10 years earlier. It really does fit that period perfectly.

Great song from my favorite film. Compare the intro. to the intro. to "Don't Hurt My Little Sister" by The Beach Boys.
rocknrollphilip 4 months ago
@rocknrollphilip They (the intros) are exactly the same, really! Brian W did make some copies in his work.
Remember he was sued, after Surfin U.S.A.!
BTW, this is my fav. movie too! I have seen it, maybe about 15 times!
