• She was perfect that night.

  • at 2:34, I don't even see her take a breath before singing the next section, but she did breath, she's just so amazing that she makes it look easy!

  • She is beautiful - i would have to say this is the most gorgeous i have seen her.

  • she looks fantastic, but she didn't do my favourite bit :(

"paris.. fraaance" in her little accent haha :(

  • oh man why is it shortened? -_- I'm so disapointed I couldn't watch the whole thing...when the lightenings stroke on the backgroung it was cooooool!! XD

  • I like it when she does it a little more seriously! Here she sounds amazing!

  • these kinds of numbers are great for Kristin cuz I often feel that she doesn't know what to do with her arms, so she sticks them out in this weird pose beside her. <<<Which is most likely her only flaw...

  • Her voice is just too beautiful!!! I can't stand it! She's brilliant. I love Glitter and be Gay. It's my absolute favorite song out of anything.

  • Ahhh just another reminder why I love Kristin Chenoweth =P She's amazing... A brilliant and versatile voice + superb acting skills + charisma and personality + a 4 foot 11 inch frame = An entity that doesn't even come close to being as awesome as Kristin Chenoweth!

    *obsessed...obsessed..*

  • yay Cheno! Was this when she met Joshua Bell? I've heard they dated...

  • The personality she emits and her voice is so stunning, gotta love her.

  • yeah

  • It's nothing compared to seeing her do it live and 5 feet away from you in an informal dress rehearsal. She's truly amazing and proof that REAL singers don't need digital effects to make themselves sound good.

  • Wow! I love it when I find videos of Cheno I haven't seen yet. Thanks for adding this!!

  • At one point it looks like she kinda wants to smile and do that little cheno!squee or giggle or something...00:32-00:46, and somee other points...Tee-hee. That jsut might be me...

  • This is the first time she performed this.

She didn't do the "FRANCE" thing until she became more comfortable with this song.

  • What's with the hair? seriously?

  • hey come on the hair is cool.

  • yeah..it's just when I first saw it that was my reaction...

  • Actually...I'm pretty sure that's what I thought at first too...lol. But it's Cheno and she can pull anything off...even the Sally costume. haha.

  • that is soo true:)

  • yes that's true, and she can do this, but i prefer something else!

but i love her, and she did sing this song wonderfull!

  • I agree!!! That's one of my favorite parts and it ALWAYS gets a laugh from the croud. I love Cheno! She's absolutely AMAZING!

  • awesum i love that part.

  • The first Cunegonde was NOT an operatic soprano (Barbara Cook) -- Chenoweth is actually closer to the originator of the role, vocally at least, than any opera singer who sings it (aka Jo, Dessay, Anderson).

  • Kristen's Glitter and Be Gay is the funniest one I've ever seen, but opera singers like Sumi Jo and Natalie Dessay sing it better.

  • Did anyone see that flash of lightning at 0:09??? I would have been scared if I had to sing outside when it was lightning!

  • she does everything!! what a talented, beautiful, and perky person! I love her

  • i think that for this aria we need a good coloratura soprano, like dessay whose version is much more superior than Chenoweth's one

  • Chenoweth IS a coloratura soprano

  • she's not bad, but try others like sutherland, sumi jo, mado robbin, luciana serra

  • I have :) I like other coloraturas, too (especially Sumi Jo), but Kristin is just so adorable in this role, and I think she's good. :) Sumi Jo is still my favorite coloratura soprano right now, but I love Kristin, too.

  • I love Sumi, too! Have you heard her Bell Song?

  • Yeah - absolutely gorgeous! It's amazing how clear her voice is.

  • Her high E at the end always blows me away! She's also versatile, kinda like Cheno. I have this CD of her (Only Love) singing showtunes and stuff like that. Have you heard anything from it?

  • No, I haven't - I definitely need to check it out, though. Thanks for mentioning it (I didn't know it existed). :)

  • If you want, I can upload it for you?

  • That would be awesome!

  • k, I'll PM you the link in a bit ;D!

(Sorry that took so long, btw. I was reading the HP book ♥ )

  • & this is why i love her!

    vocally versatile!

  • u know that she actually dated Joshua Bell before? After Marc Kudisch, and before Aaron Sorkin...(i think it was in that order)

  • The live Candide version is better but this is great 2!!!! GO KRISTIN

  • i love you kristin. and i love your high notes, well done. brava.

  • I "heart" Kristin!!!

  • If any1 has Candide on DVD I ask that they post Glitter and Be Gay. I have seen the version on the DVD. It is SOOOO much better. Thats means its SUPPER good. PLEASE POST IT!! THANX

  • when will pbs run it again?

  • LOVE IT!!!!!

  • although she sounds quite shrill on some of the higher notes especially those she has to sustain, I love her voice, its very sweet and pure. Her facial expressions and acting in general is fantastic!

  • if you want to see an even better glitter and be gay...check out the great performances version of candide...it's still kristin chenoweth but it is even better

  • where?????

  • where??

  • it's from PBS Great Performances...it has kristin chenoweth and patti lupone...very funny...but kristin brings the house down with glitter and be gay

  • i mean..where can you watch that? any specific site?

  • i haven't been able to find it online...i know pbs runs it every so often and it is also on dvd...

  • it's fantastic how she belts that out!!

  • ...She's not belting.

  • During "Glitter and Be Gay"? Can YOU do that? :P

I don't mean to be rude, but all I'm saying is that she's one teeny thing singing with great vigour.

  • Of course I can't do "Glitter and Be Gay"; I'm not a coloratura (as far as I know). I LOVE Kristin...it's just that the technique she's using here isn't belting (the notes are too high to be considered belting - once you get past F5/G5, you switch to the head register. Belting is pushing high notes into your chest register).

But I understand what you mean. Yes, she is amazing.

  • Also, belting is improper technique in opera, and opera fans would murder her if she tried to belt any opera song, lol.

  • Well, I'm certainly an opera fan, but I've never gotten too tangled in the specifics of it. You're correct, but when I say "belt", I use it as slang.

Either way, Kristin Chenoweth colours my world fantastic :P

  • Gorgeous

  • fuckin amazing

  • She blows my mind.

  • seems to like dresses with huge slits in them lol- LI ADORE HER SINGING.

  • Its a MIRICLE!!! Thank you SOOOOOOO much. I really appreciate it. Let me know if you need any favors. Id be happy 2 help you back. Have a happy st.pattys day.

  • I asked the person who had it posted up to send it to me. If they do so, I will repost it. :)

  • NM. Someone deleted the best one. U dont no how sad im bout that. :(

  • Scroll down an watch Kristin really beautiful and funny performance. U WONT WONT WONT REGRET IT!!!!

  • flawless performance!! keep giving it fives!! GO KRISTIN

  • god she looks so incredible, and damn i wish i could sing like that...

  • there is another version of glitter and be gay with is incredible, anyone could put it again?

  • I love Kristin...I wish I could find her singing this entire song, or better yet, actually seen her in Candide! That story's hilarious, and I've been wanting to see the operetta.

  • where was easy street

  • At the end

  • yes, Natalie's opera voice is better than Kristin's, however Kristin is SO much more entertaining to watch!

  • all these people saying this wasn't good how? what wasn't good about it?!?!

    I luv kristin!

  • Well she was awarded a "most talented up-and-coming singer" award in the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions, and the Met actually wants her for a future production of "Ghost of Versailles". So yeah...

  • Haha, thank you for prooving my point.

  • Oh man, is she ever amazong. Thanks for sharing; this is awesome! I only know her from Wicked - I didn't realize that was her in Annie! Man, that was just spectacular, that Glitter bit. DAMN!

  • I saw her do it at the NY Philharmonic AND in her Carnegie Hall debut. The NYP performance was OK, but the tempo was too fast and the nuances went to the wind. At Carnegie, she did this as her encore and after two hours of pop music to sing this "aria"... well, I'll let you figure that out on your own.

Don't get me wrong, I love Kristin as a performer, but she doesn't always give the best performances when it comes to DIFFICULT music.

  • Oh my God...she is insane. Her voice is insane!

  • No words can describe the talent Kristin Chenoweth has.

  • I love chenoweth as well. But im not sure I would go that far. She has a wonderful voice for broadway, but when it comes to music like this, there are opera singers who would completely overpower her without even a microphone.

  • haha, I don't know about that....probably a few, but she was trained for opera....

  • i know but be trained to, desn't mean to be good at, or to be grat doing it

  • Ummmm Kristin started out as an opera singer... She was originally going to train to do it professionally, but she ended up going to an audition for Steel Pier which started her Broadway Career...

  • Whoops, sorry, actually it was "Animal Crackers" that was her first show...

  • She rocks!!

  • i feel like she favors her chest voice waaaaay too much... her head voice is beautiful, but tainted by a less-than-stellar technique. (Notice the spreading on the higher notes and sloppy intonation on fast sections)

  • Kristin your fabbbbbbbbb

  • Who's conducting?

  • Does anyone know if u can get the whole of this concert on DVD?? or at the very least CD?

  • I could totally see Cheno not being able to get the bracelets on, and messing up the whole performance!!

That's such a "Kristin" thing to happen! xD

  • love.

  • Ahhh! Thank you for this!! I love it!!! Actually, I adore it!!! Yay for Kristin!

By the way, am I the only one that thinks that she looks a bit like Reese Witherspoon while she's singing Glitter?

    Definitely a favorite. =]

  • She looks more like Reese when she performs Defying Gravity at the '04 Tony's!!!!

  • She is so amazing! I love her!

  • She's amazing.

  • yes

  • THANKS SO MUCH! Gotta love Kristen =).. holy crap I had no IDEA she was in Annie! Man, I feel clueless now!

  • but also considering that the orchestra is on stage behind her.... of course it's a concert type show.

I don't think you had to apologize.

  • Amazing!

  • umm.... how in the world can you NOT tell that this was an outdoor performance? Paying attention at the beginning has nothing to do with it condsidering the camera often pans to various directions that clearly show the night sky, and, yes, also perhaps the wind blowing and the lighting should have tipped it off.

    I mean... wow.

  • Excuse me for not paying the utmost attention at the beginning to notice that it was outdoors.

  • She's doing it with a microphone :/
