i use similar vacum pumps but they hold 30ltr + and are designed for use on construction plant and boats where access to a sump plug is impossible due to engine position but i would not use one on a car whats the point?

There's a machine I saw in Europe that sucks out the oil, and pumps in clean oil of the same quantity removed right on the side of the road - like a vending machine.. THAT was cool.

This little tool would be very nice to use on the new Mercedes cars as they have under-body panels that are a real PITA! And a top-cartridge-type oil filter, so you can change out the cartridge and oil without using a lift - sweet!

I would not even do this... an engine will ALWAYS have some metal shavings floated down to the bottom. Draining the oil is the best way as it will get rid of the crap & gunk from the bottom of the sump.

i think its funny that ive been using a similar tool with mercedes vehicles... its been used since the late 90's. Its not that we are lazy, its that when the drain plug is removed the seal is compromised, and will NOT be as perfect as it used to be. yes perhaps it wont drip but if its never disturbed it will never drip. While its sucking do some other maintenance, the blades, the lights, the wires to the starter, the generator, the battery, the compressor, and the list goes on...

Vacuum will never be as good as draining with gravity and as stated above, you have to change the OIL FILTER, so you need access under the vehicle.

Save your car, do it the right way, from underneath.

I understand the skepticism, but for small engines that hold one quart of oil, it takes 14 seconds or less to vacuum the oil out. For large engines such as boats, it takes 8-10 minutes to vacuum 5 quart of oil. It really does work and their are thousands and thousands of very satisfied customers. SO if a 5 quart system takes 10 minutes to vacuum out, that's an average of 2 minutes per quart. How do you get that same 1 quart out of a smaller system in 14 seconds??????

For an average small engine (i.e. a lawn mower with a 1 quart capacity) it takes 14 seconds. For big engines like cars, trucks, boats (i.e. engines with 4-5 quarts capacity) it generally takes 8-10 minutes. Which is not a very long time considering the time it takes for getting a car on ramps and getting under it.... or considering most inboard boats that have almost no clearance to even reach their drain plugs.

@jayguy173 The detergents in the oil helps with all the debris to be suspended in the oil and not collect at the bottom of the oil pan. thats why you should run the vehicle for a little bit before draining the oil.
