The innocent in this case were actually the sudeten ethnic Germans who longed to be apart of Germany and, this appeal to ethnic self-determination, actually goes back to the President Wilson and his "14-points"-one of which was said self-determination. And it is absolutely within the right of a PM or President to think of his Nation's people first before commiting them to another slaughter on behalf of an aggrieved foreign nation or people.

They expected Britain and France to expend the man-power and force to backup America's pithy Moral exhortations without assurance that the U.S would do the same.

Actually if you follow the polling after the mid-term election, people voted or were frustrated about losing their jobs. It's less to do with any repudiation of President Obama's policies but his priorities. People actually support Health care reform (if anything it does not go far enough) but wanted the President to focus on jobs first.
