I know that it uses wifi but if you do not have wifi connection then it pin-points your location using cellular signal through the phone service. And Im not sure if you have to pay because thats one of my questions too.

Does anyone know if the GPS is in the 2.0 software upgrade or is it just in the iPhone 3G itself, because if it is in the software then could I turn the original iPhone into a GPS with the 2.0 software upgrade? And also when you use the GPS on the iPhone 3G do you have to pay for everytime you use it? Please let me know thanks.

The 3g has a GPS unit built in, the old Iphone does not. I believe the Iphone comes with a flat fee internet subscribtion.
