  • Dude you really pissed me off. I was getting pretty tired and just browsing boring stuff about domes and cordwood alternative housing and found your vids. Next thing I know a hour has went by and I've been laughing my ass off and now I don't believe I'll be able to sleep for a while. Thanks a lot dude. Really well done. We need to get you a better camera though cause your stuff is about really worth watching.

  • So what made you decide to use chainlink for the third floor instead of wood?

  • hehe, wow, seeing your awesome home makes me wish I could live that lifestyle. Build my own living... and have such a fun home like that.

I bet you could become quite self sufficient if you desired too, with all that space, and your abilities.

What an inspiration, and a joy to see someone live this way.

  • I'd be scared to go up that high in their. :v But I guess your pretty smart and the domes built securely.

  • No lack of energy huh? :)

I think you still can build an entire city next to it.

    Very well done ...

Thanks for information and for sharing with us.

  • Have you any land that you can grow crops on ? 25 Acres is a lot of land, build a greenhouse for tomatoes, cucumbers etc..

  • Now that you've put in that trampoline, doesn't it block out light to the ground floor?

  • that is awsome =D very creative one question..I know u said u liked exercise but to get things up to your place in summer or winter y don't you have a Atv with a trailer or just a skidoo and sled lol or build ur own , tho u may have 1 , I haven't watched all ur videos lol

  • Oh, I do have a road that I made. I drive supplies up it in the summer. I have a 4wd toyota pickup. The really old ones that are indestructible. :-) I do like the exercise, though! ....so I usually carry.

  • Ahhh... on the 4th floor, why do you have an enormous skylight but a wooden floor?

  • I probably don't "get" the question. Ya... uhh.. there's a skylight.... and a wood floor. Actually, its changed now. The room is bigger, and the floor is flatter. Actually, the entire dome is different. ...cept the steel frame.

    I like it.

  • Sorry, the point was, doesn't the wood floor defeat the purpose of the skylight?

But it doesn't matter, as you have enormous windows in that building anyway!

  • No. The wood floor does not defeat the point of the skylight. When standing on the wood floor, the light hits me in the head quite nicely.

  • What is the weight capacity of that chain link floor? Just wondering if you know, or how you figured it. :)

  • Where the hell are you getting your money from?

  • Ffrom silly jobs here and there. This stuff doesn't cost much. I only spend about 2000$ year.... so money isn't much of a problem

  • @JMEMantzel $2000 a year! holy crap man, your frugal-ness to materialism is like off the charts!... makes me feel like a jerk for not having close to the things you got.. Awesome Job J-Man

  • Man that's the coolest house ever! Especially since you made it. It's the closest thing to the Swiss family Robinson treehouse that I've seen.

  • Thanks! Ya, its totally fun to live in too. :-)

Funny thing... I never saw or read Swiss Family Robinson.

  • You should really it. (the original version from disney) that movie inspired me to build more things than any movie ever had.

  • hmm... I guess I better get it!

  • I love your lego references. I'm 15 and build robots with the lego mindstorms NXT.

  • aw geez.... sometimes when someone leaves a comment, I'll go to the page, and see myself being totally embarrasing. ha ha.

Ya, I love lego. My mom tried to give mine away once. ....ONCE!

  • lol, you cant give away legos.

even after you get into much more complex things, lego knows no limit.

  • Ya, no kidding. Although, I call it lego. Its a substance to me. ....like clay... or sand....

  • Oh my, you are a god among men.

  • WOOF WOOF! pant pant... Throw me a stick! ... ... ... ohh..... G.O.D. Sorry. I read it backwards. uhhh... can I flood the earth until my mountain becomes an island? heh heh. ok ok, I'm kidding. But, no... seriously...

  • Screw my dad.You are now officially my hero.

  • oh man.... I don't like screwing dads. :-P hmmm... I don't really know how to respond to that. haa haa

    uhh... thanks!

  • DO WANT. Your house is amazing. I am very jealous. You have an awesome place to stay with an incredible view of a forest. It makes me sad to watch this because I don't have it. ):

you done did that rubix cube.

  • Hey buddy where is the robat ? You got a nice home but i can't wait to see when your robat'll get some nice legs)

  • Ya. I'm workin' on getting back to that. I don't get to hang around ALL the time and make robots! :-P I'm refilling my bank account a little first.

  • How did you test the trampoiline floor?

  • I jumped on it. :-) ...then I invited my friend to do so all at the same time! moooahaahaaahaaaa!

  • Woa, your crazy strong, lol. Is the trampoilne floor where you sleep? Looks like it would be an awesome bed. Amazing house, very conservative.

  • Me strong. Me make muss-kells. raar.

Sometimes I sleep on the trampoline floor. Its so bright up there in the morning. ...so if I feel like sleeping in, I go downstairs! ha ha

  • dude would you be willing to come to oceana west virginia to build a dome oh and add me on myspace my url is myspace.com/zac_daugherty

  • uhh... ya, actually. I would be willing to do such a thing... depending on the circumstances....

  • LMFAO at this one. Great Tarzan yell near the end, BTW...

  • Oh, well thank you. I did my best. :-P

  • approximately how much did it cost to build that dome? oh and another thing if someone paid you enough would you biuld one for them?

  • Yeah, I'm totally going to hire you someday to come help me design and start building an awesome mountain retreat.

Keep changing and trying new stuff... it's awesome to see people living out what they believe in.

  • Sweet! I'd love to help. Maybe we should just get some cool people together and buy a private island, and make our own island retreats. :-) I think that would be the best.

  • It cost roughly $1,500 in materials to build to dome. Plus lots of personal labor. ...and YES! I'd totally build one for someone else. I love projects like that. I shouldn't admit this, but I work pretty cheap when the project is something I find interesting. ha ha uhh.. you need a dome? I can definitely improve on the one I built myself.

  • So is that bag of what appears to be bricks on a rope a counterbalance or weight of some kind?

  • oh.. the hanging bag. uhh... ya. That was garbage. ha ha. I didn't want it on the floor. I kinda wish I had a better answer. Its gone now at least. :-)

  • The trampoline floor has way more bounce then I imagined! Sweet! When you can hang from your 4th floor and drop down to do a side bounce into a flip on your 3rd floor you know you have a kick ass house! I also see that rope climbing has re-entered the workout! Awesome... or should I say awesomeness.

Be careful on that roof! It makes me nervous even thinking of you walking out there!

  • Aw, don't worry. the roof is perfectly uhh.... kinda safe. :-P There are railings to hold on to. Like handrails attached to the walls.

...and yep! The rope and trampoline floor are pretty super!

  • so how do you get internet there?

  • I go to the local library. :-) ...although there is a provider out here that has satellite access for 50$ a month. I'm thinking about getting it in the dome.

  • lol.. best video so far. awesome house jamie looks freakin sweet. how many square feet is the place?

  • oh, thanks! Lets see. The dome diameter is 24ft. So... around 450sp ft per floor. The 2nd floor only goes 2/3 of the way across, though, and the 4th floor is probably about 50sq ft. I guess its around 1200sqft inside.

  • Fantastic. At first i thought "dome", thats cool. But then i thought "dome with giant trampoline floor", that's superdonkulous!

Did you build the dome out of scrap metal, or was it something that you bought?

  • Alas... I did purchase most of the steel pipes. They're EMT. Like.. the pipes made to run wires through to protect the wires. I got them in 10ft sections from Home depot. They were half the price they are now.

    I like superdonkulous.

  • maybe u have told it somewhere somewhen, but have u built this whole dome urself?

" Ok. You have a dome mountain fortress. That is pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen in my entire life and I'm incredibly jealous."

    i soooooooooooo agree with that

  • Yep, built it myself. Oh, and when friends came over they'd help too. ...although I never got that much done when friends were around. ha ha.

  • wicked!

  • Haha , Screw you guys , i'm goin' dome :D. Reaaaaaally love your dome , looks like a nice place to settle down :3

  • Ya, its a pretty cool place. ....I don't know how much actual settling down I'm doing, though. :-P

  • The trampoline floor makes you my hero.

  • i know, i totally want one now

  • Ya, I don't know why more people don't have trampoline floors. It seems like such an obvious cool thing to me!

Before I did it, though, I stopped telling people that I was going to do it because they'd start arguing with me!!!! Can you believe that? Like, "Oh.. you can't do that." and lots of people said, "Your furniture won't stand up, stupid." Like who's the stupid one??? Furniture on a trampoline floor??? duh!

  • Ok. You have a dome mountain fortress. That is pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen in my entire life and I'm incredibly jealous. Can you make a video of the tower?

  • Ya, I'll get to the tower. Hopefully this week. I think the snow is melted off it by now!

  • agreed very cool but what about the bugs in the summer (i didnt see much of a floor) and nights in the winter.

  • uhh... the floor is concrete with foam puzzle pieces. ...like kindergarten floor. ...or umm... weight room floor. No bugs I know burrow through concrete :-P

  • uhh... the floor is concrete with foam puzzle pieces. ...like kindergarten floor. ...or umm... weight room floor. No bugs I know burrow through concrete :-P

  • that dome is awsome dude, I think every man should have a dome like that, fuckin girls they are so stupid they want live in a "house"

  • Ya. I just said screw that. I'm not living in some crappy house so I can pick up girls. ...and ya know what? Girls love the dome. Seriously. Well, not the super uptight ones who get manicures on a daily basis, but the cooler ones.
