Crackin track. instrumentals were quite a big part o' the scene back in the 70's...
Please ask Roger Banks if he is willing to swap his copy, for a copy of my "esperanto" by the G.P.C. IN MINT CONDITION! I'll even throw in my Wigan's Ovation numbers to seal the deal... there you go! :)
There's just two proper studio acetates. Roger Banks has one, not sure who has the other. It was played at Stafford by Dave Thorley and Pat Brady. There aren't any more original studio acetates as mentioned on this topic, certainly not 5 copies. It's either the the Kinnettes or the Kontetts? Not that great either.
My old friend Chris Jones, ex Harrow, now living in Wales (I believe) bought Pat Brady's Audiodisc acetate around 1986. Pat played it covered up as "Now You've Got Me Baby" by Stanley Mitchell. Last time I spoke to Chris via chat forum a few years ago he still had it, and wouldn't dream of selling it even though he doesn't DJ any more! Two other acetates of this exist, and are in the hands of Dave Thorley and Roger Banks.
hi @GeneRobertson, many thanks for the interesting info, but I still gotta find out why this recording was'nt released?? Someone MUST have been 'in' on this recording either playing instruments, recording engineers etc.. and unless they've all passed away, someone must know something about the track? - I just love the damn thing! :)
Hi @SherwoodofRobin - Firstly, you're very much a man of my own heart! Now, having researched this a bit, there are various theories about it. Firstly, that it is a Chicago recording. The second theory, however, contradicts this as it claims to be produced by the late Richard (Popcorn) Wylie at Universal Studios. Chris's copy, as I said before, is an Audiodisc acetate, the other two (or at least one) has an International Studios acetate label (said to be definitely Chicago). Plot thickens!
@livisoul - Great track or what! Unfortunately, this may be the only 'public domain' recording of it, which is why it's been distorted and doctored (quite a common thing on the Northern scene to avoid the bootlegging a rare record). I remember Pat Brady first playing this at the Top Of The World at Stafford around 1984. Savour the moment again - play this over and over until the tune sticks in your mind, and you won't regret it!
Did you ever get anymore info on this track mate?? correct spelling etc.. Also did fatsoul007 send you a better copy on cd? can you upload it mate? thanks, JP
the only known copy is an acetate that is owned by dj roger banks. he always plays it at lifeline in wolverhampton. dont think anyone has got the full version as it would be carvered if so. except roger that is.
I've got that on a Stafford tape somewhere. Also, (on the same one, possibly) a really brassy buffalo stampede of an instrumental Keb Darge used to play called "Jungle". That had a jump in the middle too.
Yeah. Similar type of instrumental, though, but with more heavy duty trumpet & trombone fire-power from the brass section. Last time I remember that being played out would've been at the 100 Club 1988-ish. I think it was a particularly rare record. "Jungle" probably wasn't its real title.
cant add much but last heard this played by Mr roger banks - got it on a tape years ago and theres a wee jump in the middle - was told this was A and B sides. B side just slightly different from A Alaway thought it was the kinetics Band but could wrong
Yes, that's correct, I also have it on a live Stafford allnighter tape, I was also told once that the flipside has the same but a slightly different version of it, can anyone confirm that?
hi, many thanks for the info...wish I had a copy :( do you have a better complete recording of both sides to listen to?

There were two copies that came from John Anderson, I had one and Pat had the other. When Stafford finished I sold my copy to Roger Banks
