@crammage Valve float is just above 8k in these engines. I've run my to redline, and it has done no harm to it. The only thing you gotta watch for is, if it's turboed, too much boost will blow the head gasket (common problem for the turbo EA82), and if you let it overheat too much, it will also kill the HG.
