I enjoyed watching this clip being a disco fan myself, thanks for uploading :D. Just wondering if anyone can tell me the artist and song title for that disco song played in the last couple of minutes of the clip as I really dig it n wanna listen to it in full?
ha ha ,for about 6mnths I used to go Roller disco back in the day but I was only about 13 so that's my excuse & i`m sticking to it! lol ,but Hey it was fun! the DJ used to play a random 12" disco track & who ever guessed it first won a prize! woot! not the track he actually played alas, usually some naff track he couldn't play anymore, but hey it was free,Oh the memories..
Cringe with embarrassment? I'd argue that Magpie was superior to Blue Peter. The whole thing was more relaxed and the items seemed better presented and more interesting.
You can get 12 episodes of the show on a DVD from Network.
@RebelVoDKa Thanks for your comment. I certainly accept your view that Magpie was 'more relaxed'. If the intention was to copy the Blue Peter format and make it more upbeat, Thames succeeded admirably.
Standard of presentation and production is another matter entirely. Blue Peter had the formula exactly right for their target audience. To me; Magpie still looks like a cheap imitation 30 years on (and they had advertising revenue to consider).
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH I GREW UP IN ROLLER DISCOS THEY WERE THE RAGE BACK IN THE 70S. I WENT RECENTLY TO THE 02 IN GREENWICH AND STILL CAN DO SOME OF THE MOVES, I WISH THE 70S COULD RETURN TODAY IS BORING COMPARED TO THEN,
@radioianj Thanks for further confirmation that I had the date wrong when I first posted (the source tape label said 1976). Cuba was (seemingly) a 1980 hit for the Gibson Brothers and was first released 1979.
I did a Wiki search a few days ago and did note that a 'Tommy Boyd' had replaced another presenter in 1977. I was never a Magpie viewer and the only other listed presenter (aside from Jenny H) I'd heard of is Susan Stranks.
My teen years were late 60's to early 70's and family viewing was mostly BBC. Blue Peter was a must, though Magpie was always just regarded as a poor imitation.

Blue Peter was for posh kids. Magpie was more down to earth, for kids from council estates. Lol Magpie was a lot better.

Hey, what's Brian May doing presenting a kids' show?

I was always a Blue Peter girl myself, at least they had animals on there.

Hee hee. You can't beat a good stereotype. Shouldn't those dancers be cartoons?

I think the song's from 1978/9. Great clip from a great kids 's tv magazine series!

Great clip but isn't this from a later show than 1976? Tommy Boyd didn't join MAGPIE until 1977.

Thanks - you're absolutely right!
