  • This is one of great movies that teaches me to do something until its done, to be stubborn, to finish, be strong and whenever You decide to do in Your Heart, should follow it, no matter what others say, a shining star at the end, imagining a reward at the end of the journey at the begining will bring You there, and with pride You will look back at the long winding road back. Then Realizing, when at Your destination, is just the middle of Your journey. But is easy, You come a long way,

  • Look at closely at Farnsworth's face...the history of 20th century America is written there. He personifies that which is best about America: quiet strength, guts, gritty determination, compassion, honesty, and self-reliance. May he rest in peace.

Every time I watch it, at he end, I'm trying to prevent myself from crying, it is such an impressive movie... Very good to see someone like me from the end of the world, thousands of miles away, thinking so similar to mine, thank you! And sorry for my poor English :P

  • A beautiful, beautiful film.Full of endearing moments and the finale where barely a word is spoken but so much is said, faultless.

  • Comment removed

  • it's a very moving movie..I love it!!!

  • It's a great movie indeed. I have had several of my English classes see the movie and do some writing on the lessons Alvin Straight can teach us. They invariably feel touched and write such beautiful essays!!

    Luis Diaz

Encontrar. Salir a buscarte. Creer realmente en salir a encontrar a Harry Dean Stanton.

  • Muy bellas palabras. Coincido con usted en que si hay una verdadera razon, las distancias nunca son largas...saludos!

  • Alvin Straight's house was recently tore down because some idiots lit it on fire.

  • one of my favourite movie!

    thanks from Italy...

  • I think you're a sweet soul or perhaps I like to think so.

This is my favorite movie and Harry Dean Stanton only with the facial expression leaves me amazed.

Great job. Thanks for your video.

  • i love this film to makes me sasd when i watch it it makes you stop and think about your live and what you are doing with it

  • It's great. A montage of the movie very good. It is unfortunate that not award the Oscar to Mr. Richard.

A fan of this movie from Spain.

  • this is so beautiful...

you made an incredibly good job with this compilation of images from the movie. but say, is this music from the movie? i don´t recall it... i just recall the nice country music. but this fits very very well, too.

it has been years since i have watched the movie but at the end of this clip i had again tears in my eyes... as if i had watched the complete movie. thank you so much.

a unique movie: tranquil, wise, heart-touching. it just makes you want to be a good person.

  • This song is called:

    Reprise by Marcelo Zarvos

    or

    Ted and Marion

Both 2 u can find on youtube, after years I still haven't figured out which one it really is.

  • Oh . My . Gosh!!! SkyAboveWater, your reprise version has tears streaming down my cheeks! You've compressed all the poignance of this eloquent epic into one powerfully mighty nugget. Very well done!!!

  • i love this movie! he would have benifitted from a mild pully swap though, :p

  • A very under rated film. exellent job! 5/5

  • Lindo! Uma lição de vida. Nos ensina a ter perseverança e a seguir nossos objetivos quando o mundo não nos apóia. E o Richard Farnsworth fez uma ótima atuação, é uma pena que não esteja mais entre nós.

  • 2 words: fan-tastic! certainly the best ive ever seen. 5/5

  • You have done a terrific job. A nice tribute to a fantastic movie.

  • Alvin Straight.

    LEGEND.

  • beautiful video truly such an underrated movie good job editing!

  • magnific movie and great "trailer" like,

but you should warn people who haven't seen the film yet taht this is may be a sploiler to them

  • I love it, just love it.

So slow but deeply touchable, time to relax and think.

Only masters could make that movie that you can watch again and again.

Looks that its without action but I dont want to miss any second of that music, landscape, face and words, story.

Quite sad story but the music makes me fly above those fields and just rain them with my tears.

  • Such a simply told story and yet so touching. I love the music you chose for this video! Thanks for making it!

  • This is life in the slow lane...this is what it means to love, to persist, in the face of hardship, of judgment, of old grudges. And to keep love burning, to put aside, to let go. A tribute to what fillmmaking can really be. Bravo, Mr. Farnsworth and Mr. Lynch and all involved. My deep gratitude.

  • A very nice touching video. I love the movie since I first saw it a few years ago. Thanks for reminding me :)

  • Nice video. I never saw this one, I'll have to pick it up.

That is a lot of seat time on an old 110 Round Fender.

  • I feel the same. All the family I care about lives about 80 miles from where this was filmed. I'm stuck in England with me and this film, it could be worse. Thank you Mr Lynch.

  • i love this movie so much! it makes me to cry

  • This was beautiful. I've always loved the movie, but thank you for introducing me to

    Marcelo Zarvos!!

  • Brought a tear to these eyes.

  • This man leaves his pride behind and dares. What a way to LOVE. If anyone wonders what LOVE means, just watch this film.

  • I really enjoyed your video. It's one of my favourite films as well. Such a simple but profound story.

I would have included some more quotes i reckon. The bundle of sticks analogy, or maybe something from his conversation with the vicar.

But no i really liked it. You've had a lot of views.

What did you edit this on?

  • I love this film! How nice to see a group of "nice ordinary" Americans and parts of the country you would never get a chance to see.

You can't beat the Good Old Boys!

  • alvin found travis.

  • The ending in this movie was PERFECT. definitely my favorite lynch movie, but maybe that's just bc i have a brother.

  • Pure beauty.

  • ... The most ugly of old age is the memory of when you were young ... No one knows your life of a brother who was almost your age, know who you are and what you are better than anyone else .. A brother, a brother.

Wow ! Great movie. David Lynch build & manage a true-life story, away from those visionary works made him world famous. Whats remain ? A touching, ironic and going off the deep end movie. Once again thank you.

  • Beautiful film, beautiful video!!

  • Perhaps the best video above this film in this site. Great job!!

  • beautiful.

    thank you<3

  • ❤

  • Loved it for many years. I use it to purge my commercial perceptions and get back to where I need to be. This is what artful movies are for.

  • WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE! I started crying as soon as i saw the first scenes of this video and the most heartbreaking moment is when he calls for his brother,(3:43) you can see in his face he's not sure his brother's still alive! The look on Alvin's face at that moment can't be taught at any drama school. It's something that you experience. Brilliant film...

  • Well done... you &)"(ç"! bastard pulled tears out of my eyes ! ...

I saw this film almost ten years ago ... I was 15... alone in the theater. Got out depressed and at the same time happy. Since then, I am thinking where I wish to end my life... what would be my last journey.

  • Si puo' imparare a vivere vedendo questo film

  • He reminds me a lot of my Dad. rip

  • Beautifull Film

  • Me & my family all get together to watch this film it sure does hit you right in the ticker. And I would do the same for a family member or someone in need no matter how many miles it takes and It sure does show the values of life. Once again a very beautiful film

  • well... you did it... you made me cry on this one... just like i did at the end of the movie the fist time i saw it... thank you so much...

  • Richard Farnsworth was suffering from cancer when he made this movie - the canes are not a prop. He died before the movie was released, I believe?

    Beautiful. I wept throughout it.

  • Nice clip!!

  • I love the Music..it's magnificant...could u send for me?? I'm so in love with it

  • Beautiful. And I haven't even seen the film yet. Now, I'm inspired.

  • contrary to first appearance, this is not about some forrest gump mower-on, but about what is truly important in life. guess what? no explosions, mayhem, adultery or million dollar special effects. could be on to something.

  • I'm exactly the same way, we all should be, I would crawl many many miles to help somebody or get someplace but even those closest would just say to you, in your face "you can't walk, you'll die out there."

What's happened here to the world guys

ignore all of the troubles ahead, you can get where you want to go.

  • Not one of those crappy average action movies with zombies, but a real movie with a great story that makes you think about life!

  • It is greate movie, it shows beautiful values of our existence... 'people say that is so boring, film about nothing-they say' but their wrong, wyh? they didn't understand this true History of Mr. Alvin

  • the best movie..

  • I'm so angry and sad: why Kevin Spacey got the oscar for that stupid american beauty and not Richard Fransworth for this movie. It's simply not fair...

  • Do you think the movie The Straight Story challenges or supports stereotypes about aging? Give at least three examples from the movie that back up your position.

  • hahahaha social work journal?

  • lmao!!!...how did u know!!...i thought i was sooo slick ...trying to slide the question in...hoping someone intelectual would answer! ...hehe

  • One of only 3 movies that makes me cry every time. That final scene where he pulls up a chair and sits down on the porch is magnificent.

  • which are the other 2? ;)

a.i. and click are extremly sad, too ;)

  • #2 American History X

    #3 Everything Is IIluminated

  • A nice movie, it ´s one of my fav.!

    Thank you for the post!

  • you did an awesome job thanks alot !

  • As a follow up, watch Lynch's interview with Magnet in '01...

"Man On Big Tractor is God. Alvin had to confess his sins to be forgiven. The motor had to brake short of his goal. Man On Big Tractor is God in Alvin's likeness...Alvin only bigger. And I wanted to afford this man the dignity of confessing his sins to God in private which is why the camera pans too far away to hear his confessional. All we need to know is God saw him worthy of forgiveness because he was willing to accept none."

  • The greatest secret about The Strait Story is Lynch's admission in 2001 about The Four Metaphors...

#1- Teenage runaway pregnant; his advice to her is the father he wishes he'd been to his pregnant daughter.

#2- deer struck scene; life too hurredly led.

#3- Runaway truck by fire; alludes that his grandkids were burnt in a fire accidentally lit by him passed out.

#4- Graveyard scene; reckoning of mortality.

#5- Big Man On Tractor; is God, forgiving of sins, miraculous healing.

  • I fall apart when he meets his brother!

  • very nice

  • wow...that got me watery eyed man!

    lol good stuff

  • fantastic heart felt and warming film about real people and set at life pace. ( if you cant sit still for five minutes go and watch some trash instead. a chrismas must to watch with your dad or grand dad

  • hey guys this movie looks quite interesting. can anybody tell me what it is abot ?

    ty alot

  • sort of awkward to tear up in a bloody starbucks! Stop!!!!

  • I'm speechless everytime I watch this. It shows the simple people who make America to be America. Strong will people, brave people. Touching, because it exposes hard feelings about life. :'X

  • Your comment is so true, and beautiful.

It's the reason why I'm so in love with America. It fascinates me. Unfortunately, people don't get it and only see Bush, McDonalds and superficiality.

  • Very good words. America is much more than Mc, Bush and stuff like it. Hopefuly, better days will come, with the next presidency, perhaps allowing people to find out more about America.

  • that was lovely

  • I love your video. Good work.

  • This moved me so much. Richard Farnsworth was such a great, subtle actor. May he rest in peace.

  • one of my favourite films ... it's like a star in heaven, it lasts.

And it gives deep respect for the strength of old people.

    Thanks for loading up!!
