Of course Javier Bardem would be great if he could pull off looking 20 again. The wonderful British actor Matthew Goode who was in A Single Man as Colin Firth's lover and also starred in the remake of Brideshead, Revisited could physically resemble Novarro
Novarro was so better act and man than Valentino... Valentino is cold, he plays bad, no humanity, no "charm". Novarro is more natural, charming, a true person and sensibility.
Ramon Navarro had a range that let him play epic drama to light comedy. He was especially memorable in comedy-drama films like "The Student Prince" and "The Pagan". In them, he's the Hugh Grant of the silent era! (Or maybe Hugh Grant is the Ramon Navarro of the Talkies!)
i was fortunate to have lived in the beautiful home on Laurel Canyon, back in the 80's , i have some of the beautiful Wrought iron front gate to the home and the cross on a circular base of wrought iron. thew memories i have of the house is wonderful, i still remember seeing his ghost the sunken living room. i lived of the kitchen in a make shift room, between the library pool room. so sad that he had to killed in his own home. o0f all the places i lived in LA, my favorite is of 3110.
ramon novarro held me as a baby! he said i was the prettiest baby he'd ever seen! lol he was in my father's knights of columbus group at the time. this was about 1951! lol
I agree with your comment that Ramon Novarro had a more beautiful face than Valentinos relatively.
I know Valentino in his time was absolutely famous and lots of people were attracted to his sex appeal. They even called him the greatest lover. However, I just dont get it even I also love to see silent movies,
Maybe I need more time to look at his works to find it though.
I agree with the other posters - Ramon was an absolutely "beautiful" man. His smile was even better. It is such a heartbreak that he was murdered in 1968.
Loved his films - one called the "Huddle" where he looked especially gorgeous...
One of my favorite films, The Big Steal from 1949 starring Robert Mitchum , has Ramon Novarro in a fine supporting role as the local Mexican police inspector.
The first time I saw "Ben Hur" in a film class I was bowled over at how simply beautiful Ramon Novarro was. I could not keep my eyes off him. I have since seen more of his films and he was a remarkable actor. I got to visit his grave while I was vacationing in California. There with his family, a quiet lovely spot. May he always live on in film and memories.
A beautiful Tribute to a beautiful and Talented man. He was far more than Valentino as he looked noble and aristocratic not like a gigilo type. He had a wonderful voice for talkies but America's prejudices regarding Mexicans and Accents reduced a great career to a small one. Bravo Ramon
In 1966 I was taken to the home of Ramon Navarro by a close friend who was Mexican/American. I was 19 from NY. A comfortable and unpretentious home. There were some posters of his great films on the walls and I tried not to appear like an awestruck boy. He was a quiet, kind and gentle elderly man. He did not deserve what happened to him. If curses worked I would curse his 2 murderers to live 1000 years and suffer pains and agonies beyond endurance. Shame on Los Angeles for doing so little.
The trial was a travisty. The prosecutor, James Ideman, said Novarro 'invited' and 'created' his death through his 'immoral lifestyle.' To be fair, it really isn't proper for 70 year-old men to invite underaged youths for sex. Then again, no one said life is fair.
Novarro was an excellent Actor, he continued to act clear into the 1950's, mostly supporting dramatic roles. Novarro did not die at the hands of Mormons, as was previously written. The Book "Hollywood Babylon" tells the accurate account of his death- Two homosexual Hustlers - Brothers, thier last name was Ferguson, murdured this gentle man in his home; it was in the mid 60's. Don't know if they were executed for heir hideous deed, pre-Manson, & the death penalty was in force at that time.
"Hollywood Babylon" has been disproved many times. Author- ironicly named-Kenneth Anger is an angry, self-loathing homosexual who is involved with the Church of Satan in San Francisco. There never was any 'gift' used in the crime. The prosecutor, James Ideman, claimed Novarro 'invited and created' his death through his 'immoral lifestyle. While the kids were sentenced for 1st degree murder, the facts seem to show homicide, more than murder. But then, that is what passes for justice in gay cases
Novarro was considered to be the second 'Valentino'and actually replaced him. I have seen the only photo depicting both men in the same film, Rudy in the lead part and Novarro as an 'extra' in the crowd.
He will always be one of my favorite actors even though he was long gone before I was even born. He was extremely multitalented and thats all that matters. You have to buy as many movies of his as possible. I sincerely appreciate this man and his great contributions to the film industry.
what? even if that holds any truth, they wouldn't be real Mormans/Christians if they were to have killed someone like that. They would be fanatics like those lovely Arab folks who like to kill Amereicans
and dont be ignorant, the Arabs dont love to kill Americans.
Muslim is quite different to the Taliban.
and if they hate us is because of the shit that made bush father and son in the middle east, they said it was an anti-terrorist war and became a terrorist war.
I hope, obama change everything, so we returned to the Americans, friends of the world
With all due respect, Rudy is a better actor than Ramon and more attractive.
Rex Ingram was jealous over Rudy's friendship with Alice. Rex Ingram was an eccentric, and he was not nice to Rudy. Rudy got mad at him for it which i'm glad.
While this video montage reminds us of Novarro's stunning beauty, he was also a fine natural actor who did the best with what he got in the way of scripts and offers. One must wonder how differently his later career could have turned out if Novarro had been more focused on film making than on concert tours, and if studios could see that Novarro was more than a juvenile lead. The photos and music in this montage perfectly capture Novarro at is finest. Thanks for offering it for others to view!
He was a great actor back in the twenties and the early thirties. He was extremely popular and was touted as "The New Valentino" after Rudolph Valentino's death, continuing the Latin Lover craze. In fact Ramon Novarro and he were very good friends. Unfortunately, Novarro met with a very tragic and gruesome death later in his life.
This video is as elegant as him. I think he was very cheerful, friendly and fine. He had very good figure. My he strikes me as an actor truly admirable =)
Of course Javier Bardem would be great if he could pull off looking 20 again. The wonderful British actor Matthew Goode who was in A Single Man as Colin Firth's lover and also starred in the remake of Brideshead, Revisited could physically resemble Novarro

He had a more beautiful face than Valentino's, but Valentino had a smoldering, menacing sex appeal that Novarro couldn't copy.

Another dark and mysterious legend to grace
the screen in bold masculinity` yes he did
have that Valentino quality also or perhaps
even more so. Such a dignity and proud and
nobel stature. I bet he never thought he
would Star on Baz,s celebrity show case.
