Terrific opening chord progression. I am a sucker for songs that pause and then immediately jump ahead (in this case with a harmony being introduced) so you got me there.
I really like the idea of lyrics talking about the song that is being played. Sort of reminds me of the Gary Shandling theme song.
Nice little break in the middle. Awesome interacting vocals, and it was nice to jump back into the meat of it afterward.
Is your dog named after "Calvin and Hobbes" by any chance?
