MY SELF COUSEN CHESTER, WILKEY THE PLANK, TOUGH BOY +R 2 NAME BOB HADAWAY, JOHN WILKINSON (NOTTS) ORIGANAL 1968 RARE SOUL WIZZARD, TO NAME A FEW WHO WENT TO THE TWISTED WHEEL, 68 - 70 NOT BAD FOR NORTH HERTS, RIGHT ON & KEEP ON PERKING, Dthe DRUG,
Its still going strong today,,, The casino shut its doors in 81 i was 21,,, but the northern sounds live on, im now 49 and its still there like it was yesterday looks like its going to the grave with me,,,,, Oh well...
superb, torch and wheel i just missed out on,but i remember the badges on peaples bags at the casino nighters and wishing i had them.i felt so new to the scene.still got the sounds though in mms
I used to go to the Wheel in the 60s and still do to this day but to say that the Twisted Wheel was the birthplace of Northern Soul is rubbish. It's true that the term 'Northern Soul' was coined by Dave Godin following a vist to the Wheel shortly before it closed but there were many other soul clubs on the scene at the same time as the Wheel, in Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Stoke, that all contributed to the birth of Northern Soul.
@125or200px This is a culture that won't die even when we all do. I used to go to the Wheel from 1968 when I was only 16, made fantastic friends, loved the place, loved the the music, still do, it's my way of life!! KTF
The Twisted Wheel is now Legends and developers want to knock it down. To try and save it please sign the petition
