Actually' there's one other way to get wolf. After beating subspace emissary, go back to one of the abandoned temple levels one path you have to go down, there is a door that wasn't there before you beat story mode. when you go through it' there will be a short cut scene that shows wolf coming on to that space level. after you beat him, not only will he be an ally, he will also be a playable character in vs mode. Hope this helps
