  • why isnt there a video for hercules from egyptology

  • Look for a new release soon, something to follow up "Dumbing Up". I'm rooting for you Karl!

  • This is what music sounded like before MTV and youtube (nearly) ruined music. Just listen to an "average" band from that era, like the Gin Blossoms or Blind Melon, and compare it with anything from today.

  • Its kind of funny... because it's not like today when they wrote this. I mean, unless you like little boys singing songs or rap (or is it hip hop) ... So, I guess it's not like the 80's...

  • So So SOOO hoping we get a tour once again to see all these wonderful songs live...*Prays*!!

  • @MrPAVaughn twinkle, twinkle little star can be a rockin song if you sing it right :D

  • @MrPAVaughn hahahhaah.great one.

  • Where are you Karl? i know it`s been hard of late and you are recovering, but we need more of the same! Dumbing Up was genius!!!!!

I`m from Coleraine (North of Ireland) seen you at Shepherds Bush, 2000, what a great night. Missing you mate.

ps: Now living in Bristol...yer manager spoke to my mate Dave about a gig at The thekla?

  • World Party is on Facebook and Twitter. Karl has a major release ahead. All is well. :)

  • too much politics, environment, religion... but still... they rock!

  • memories aaaaah

  • @clijoco i touched 'em

  • @MrPAVaughn 3 Months later, you better be listening to the same thing little person.

  • Wow - I totally forgot about this song until right now...

  • Very Kinks like. These guys deserved so much more recognition.Love this song!

  • "how could it come to this?" ....

because of the talking monkeys. But praise be to the Almighty some can also sing.

  • What a fantastic band/song. Takes me back 18 years and more. Wonderful.

  • @MrPAVaughn Hell yes! You made my day!

  • @MrPAVaughn shut up baby

  • @MrPAVaughn funniest comment ive seen on the internet in a longtime , well done.

  • What is this guy doing? Is his genius self holed up in some studio in Wales? Break out, we want to see the fruits of your labor, Karl!

  • @1familyjules

He was quite ill some time back (Brain hemorrhage i think) and had to go through some major recovery

  • Comment removed

  • Karl Wallinger was genius

  • @MrPAVaughn well played sir!

  • I forgot how much i loved this music, I hope not to forget again.

  • obviously 9 people thought this would have auto-tune vocals

  • a super band that missed the Big Stage but makes incredible music...I only wish he'd make more music...I would buy it!

  • bucking ducking fucking hucking mucking pucking sucking tucking aces.all four tetramorph aces.

  • @MrPAVaughn Easily the best comment I'll ever read on a youtube video! Made my day :D

  • KARL I LOVE YOU> (I love me too so this may or may not be much of a recommendation) but I`ll tell u this much: I REALLY WANNA KNOW ABOUT THIS: At the speed of light time and space = zero. And matter consists of 99.9999999% empty space, and as for the rest: no ones sure. chew on that. I love you ALL (David Wilder)xxxxxxx

  • Jesus said anybody is capable of becoming just like me and greater things he will beable to do.Wisdom there is only two men in the history of men who will do this. Now what did jesus say u had to do to become just like him. What ever u think this means u r wrong. And this is the basis of all christain churchs. The baptisam and giving your life to a chuch. But this can not be.Jesus said him and one other will do this.So u might start back tracking find where u went wrong.or missed the mark. wisdom

  • Preachers to become wise in the knowledge in a book. This is not what i am about. For u see i know that there r no spirits in a book so u wont find one there. But u can manafest one.But i do have a spirit and this is what it can do with the word.If it wasnt for god himself even the elect would be deceived. What is this truth that keeps u from being one of the elect.?Floydhaven u there? There r over 168 known religions in the world.Wonder witch one of them he gave the truth to.Wisdom says noneofthem

  • because the end is hear and the world of men is lost..because the ways of men lead to death. what r the ways of men?the ways of men to become wise in all things.u cant find the spirit by studing a book . for ther r no spirits in a book so u will not find one there.had to look within to find the spirit not without.spirit is willing the flesh is weak. so it is your flesh that gaurds this place so u cant get there..THINK ????????

  • @roar5952 While I appreciate your sense of urgency, friend, I would suggest in the future you refrain from attempting to preach after drinking. It's okay, I'm not passing judgement, we all need a couple of drinks after an intense church service to help us unwind.

  • THE WATERBOYS members FTW

  • Many years ago he Looked out through a glassless window All that he could see was Babylon Beautiful green fields and dreams And learn to measure the stars But there was a worry in his heart He said, How could it come to this? I'm really worried about living How could it come to this? Yeah, I really want to know about this Is it like today? Then there came a day It moved out across the Mediterranean Came to western isles and the Greek young men And with their silver beards they laughed
  • At the unknown of the universe They could sit and guess God's name But they said, How could it come to this? We're really worried about living How could it come to this Yeah, we really want to know about this Is it like today? Then there followed days of Kings, Empires and revolution Blood just looks the same when you open the veins But sometimes it was faith, power or reason as the cornerstone But the furrowed brow has never left his face
  • Bang!

    Many years ago he

Looked out through a glassless window

Didn't understand which what he saw

  • thanks from jax

  • Never heard of these guys until about 3 days ago. A co-worker brought them up. They were what is popular now, only mostly better. Cool. Glad I got to hear.....

  • excellent! i remember the 90's i miss them!

  • this song touched me. to me its superb.

  • Can anybody tell me where i can find the song: "im gonna find my way ,,," i think thats the name of it... very good song. I miss it ;(

  • @bennibig363 It's a line from World Party " Sooner or Later "..You'll find it on their "Bang !" album. Same album as the song above came from.

  • I remember hearing this on the radio. I would ask friends if they heard this song, the song with Bang in it?

  • good song thanks for uploading --"LyricallySpeaking" I like that :-)

  • The first time I heard this was on my alarm clock...I normally turn it off right away, but I thought it was something new by Crosby, Stills, and Nash....learned the truth several days later......

  • So so so sooooooo good!

  • sweet, wish they would come around!

  • what a talent!!

  • This song has been a full part of my life for 15+ years. Brings tears to my eyes still...

  • the whole album from which this track is taken from is stunning, i bought it in 93....sooooo underrated.

  • i saw them play at the mean fiddler in london in 95 or 96 on dec. 22. they played all the best songs plus one beatle song. it was tops!!!!!

  • Well I think BSM (Blackstrap Molasses - Eastbourne) do a better rendition of this - as for Ship of Fools....Well now there's a challenge for BSM - Steve Tilston is my all time hero....can Mel (Melodie Westcott) do a good Martha...???? I know Sean can do a good bass - he is the most sympathetic bass player going today :-)

  • I'm disappointed in my fellow man that he didn't become more popular, this is a total gem.

  • Love me some Karl!

  • Fine song. Reminds me of Robert Palmer's Johny and Mary..

  • Why is Karl not well known? Why is not Arthur Lee (Love), Marshall Crenshaw, The Move, Graham Parker, Phil Ochs, Them, Curtis Mayfield, And Lloyd Cole, etc. not much better known?

I have no answer except the world is a ship of fools and you can fool most of the people most of the time with crap.

  • @11xzxzxz

The real music lovers know them all :)

  • @petrusaloisius Well some real music lovers only know Classical or couple kinds of genres. That doesn't make their love of music less important than others who know all genres. And personally I might pride myself on just trying to know the best of a certain genre as I guess I am not that patient or drive to like a lot of what I find to be drivel or derivative music. But there are no absolutes. An I have a few artists that I love who are not considered good but critics or the masses.

  • @11xzxzxz

Said it with a smile... positively ment :)

  • @petrusaloisius Right a smile among titans of taste; ones as me and you who can not be wrong, ever!

  • the best

  • GO KARL!! we need t osay ello again, havent seen you scence the art show thing

  • I thought this was the Kinks back when i first heard it! Took me until today to figure out who it was!

  • Finally found the video clip... This song is the reason I started buying music as a teenager, I just couldn't get it out of my head...... :)

  • 3:24-3:36 is haunting. the sound of man falling through space in a sort of peaceful peril. always been a favorite of mine in this terrific song.

  • @bigbiscuit100 Yeah you are right.

  • @bigbiscuit100 You are correct sir. But others parts are haunting. I am the king of haunt so I can't listen to any song with some haunting melody. About 5% of my 950 songs have to haunt.

  • this song is so poignant, so beautiful..

always chokes me up ... for years now.

    "it isn't just today...."

  • I heard this in the pub last night, I had totally forgotten this song, have not heard it since it was released.

  • would love to know where abouts that background street is or what city

  • beautiful song!

  • First time I heard this song I recognized it as excellent. Chorus is beautiful.

  • Catchy, thoughtful and a Kinks like classic song, up there other classic songwriters like Ray Davies and Neil Finn.

  • Absolutely one of the very best songwriters period in my humble opinion.

  • Despite the fact that this is not metal, I still like it World Party always have an approach that express the western civilizations plight through the eyes of the objective soul.

  • If you like Karl's music and you wish more people wrote with such brilliance and wonderful, Spirit driven compassion you may wish to try.. Ron Sexsmith, Jason Mraz, Brett Dennen, Mark Heard, Larry Norman, Terry Scott Taylor, Daniel Amos, Lost Dogs, Alexi Murdoch, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Randy Stonehill, Randy Newman, REM, Bruce Cockburn, Al Green, Ben Harper, Ben Lee, The Call, David Gray, Live, Mute Math, Paul Kelly, Peter Gabriel, Van Morrison, Just to name a few.. enjoy listening.

  • Man, I wish people were making music like this today. Intelligent and catchy - what a combo. Love it.

  • Timeless....

  • i love world party so much, YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is my wedding song, along with she's the one, THEY'RE TOO GOOD!

  • kinks

  • Does anyone have "MYSTERY GIRL" on Rare on Air, Volume 2: KCRW Live Performances? PLEASEPLEASEPRETTYPLEASE POST!

  • Does anyone have "Mystery Girl" on Rare on Air, Volume 2: KCRW Live Performances? PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE POST!

  • Oh man, this is the right song for what is going on in the Gulf of Mexico now . . .

  • Sublime, simply sublime.

I hear Harrison, Dylan et al... and can see how the New Radicals were influenced by Wallinger. Also, it takes me back to my childhood.

  • this man is a genius....5 albums in 20 years, and all perfect albums from start to finish...cheers mr. party!

  • Love This song Karl is one of the finest musicians I've ever heard. That is saying a lot because I've been deeply involved with songs for 4 decades. I heard tons and BANG is one of my favorites ever. Front to back a truly awesome release. Egyptology runs a close second though.

  • Great band!!

Saw them at a festival in 1990

waited all day for them to come on

and when they did some gobshite

fell off the roof of the stadium into

the crowd and put a damper on the

whole set...I could have killed him!!

  • plz. come in consert to mpls.! shit man that would be GREAT!

  • Karl, I hope you are keeping well. You have many, many fans out here who are with you all the way. PLANET BEFORE PROFIT.

  • Still stunning and profoundly human.

  • love this song-brings back memories of good times

  • if anyone has the b-side of this single "basically" throw it at me!

  • I have it. E-mail me

  • SWIZZ!!! will do...

  • it reminds me when we could look at the other into the eyes....

  • Yes, timeless is an apt description! I hadn't listened to this song in about 10 years and bought it this morning on iTunes. I love this song!

  • sausages

  • So beautiful.

    I love it.

  • Timelessly classic. Classically timeless.

  • I don't particularly like this video but is one of my favorite songs from this band. They just don't get enough recognition... great harmonies, voices, they remind me a lot like CSNY....

  • Mint!! Great stuff!

  • Gota be one of the best bands in the business. I love them heaps. Love Karl, he da man.

  • these guys should get more airplay....this is probably my favorite song of theirs

  • Astounding and touching.

  • Outstanding! The days when people actually sang about something important.

  • Yeah what happened? this is as fresh today as it was then.

  • One of my best favorite song at this moment! Help me to think in a different way! Really nice to hear and hear again! Very goog sound of guitar!!

  • Always loved this song! think around 1992 I was second year in Highschool..

  • My intellectual review of this song...

    Fucking Ace.

  • No argument here

  • @dons4europe hey! can you guys recommend on other songs these guys have? this one's frikkin sweet, and even meaningful :]

  • @eladbari ship of fools :-) and check the waterboys

  • I saw World Party either in late 1988 or early 1989 so that's when they started. Most people were listening to Guns n' Roses or 'baggy' at the time though - this seems to come from a completely different era. It's more like Brit-Pop five years before anyone else (except Lilac Time) were doing it.

  • Beautiful song... i remember when this came out back in the 90's.

  • Good Q - why is none of this stuff on iTunes - I remember Dave Fanning (U2...IRELAND...RADIO DJ) played WP all the time...after fallout of waterboys...so I guess v early 90s - Karl W is a very clever lyricist and there were some amazing songs on that album 'goodbye jumbo'

  • Or were they the 80''s? You had to be there I suppose.

  • Why isnt this on iTunes or for download. Top tune the 90's Kinks I thought.

  • what a quality tune

  • Karl Wallinger is a musical genius -- he's a brilliant songwriter, fabulous guitar player, and he has a great, distinctive voice. The messages in the songs are just spot on, as well. I've seen World Party twice (last night in Portland being the second time) -- what a wonderful live band! Karl has a great sense of humor and a down-to-earth personality. He spent time shaking hands with audience members after the show.

Thank you, Karl. You've given me two decades of great musical pleasure.

  • "Bang!" was the defining album of the alternacraze in the early 90's, in my opinion.

  • Great ablum.

This followed by What Is Love All About...awesome!!

  • I am always in the mood to listen to this song. The lyrics, the melody, I just love it all.

  • Bang!

    I loved World Party.

I bought the album in 1993,But have never seen this video until now.

I have been transported back to that time,If only for a little while.

    Thanks Lyric!.

  • Buy a WATERBOYS cd first!

  • I love this song

  • Which album do you reccommend from World Party ? I enjoy this song, are others similar to this ?

  • Goodbye Jumbo is their best i think, but they are all pretty good tbh

  • without doubt, waterboys were not the best. An evolution with peter gabriel/sinead o'c worked wonders. Pity about the accident, pop genius, robbers robbie and that guy in a box from the north

  • Genius for sure. A favorite for years.

  • pure genius, beautiful...

  • love this guys lyrics, pure cool.

  • esta cancion es todo

  • love love love this song. first heard it ten years after it came out. loved it right away. there is something about it i can't figure out - makes me feel nostalgic, happy and depending on my mood even sad. i listen to it all the time.

  • Great song. Like the first day of fall. And the video really charms.

  • I recently saw Karl play and he has lost none of his magic..The music was utterly bone chilling and he didnt even have a full band..Truly a very very underestimated talent. I am a huge fan and will always be .

  • It's so amazing to have him back. I would have cried for days if we had lost him.

  • This song is fantastic. I wore out the tape single I bought from Sam Goody!

  • i love this tune

  • karl is a magic man. The musicality , lyrics and soul of this are beyond reproach. True musical genius is sometimes difficult to access. I have loved this music, soup to nuts since I 1st heard Karl play. Though his ascendence and down through his medical scare. This is a man worthy of all that the "business" has to offer. I consider myself fortunate enough to have found this when not everyone knew that it existed. Thank you Karl.

  • @BillReef

I understand that you really really love this....but why should it matter to you that(according to you) you found it when not everyone knew that it existed?Does it add an extra value?

I never get these remarks......The love of music is such a personal affair,I should think....................

  • Back in '93 I won this disc at a radio station giveaway during a friday happy hour. Had never heard of World Party before then. Talk about good luck. I still listen to it today. This song in particular....amazing.

  • Yes, this is so good. What memories. Thanks so much. A+

Took me forever to find this CD even 7 years ago. Bravo

  • I've always loved this song/ album. I remember vividly buying this in 1993.... "blood just looks the same when you open the veins"....... I wish ppl would remember this.

  • I do! I loved this album too.

  • Sometimes i think that they wrote this song just for me,there is so much i want to tell people that i love, but dont think in my short life i will have the courage

  • aww, what a comment!! and what do you think you couldn't tell anyone??

  • Grasp the nettle! Regretting things you've done is fine. Regretting never having done something is not. What's the worst that can happen? Cos it's not worse than keeping it bottled up.

  • esto es como hoy!!!!!que buena rola de esos weyes!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song but this is completely different from the video I remember.

  • Genius! Takes me back to the days of growing up with MTV- when music was real..

  • Dead rite when MTV was MTV Europe and actually played music.

  • agreed

  • Great song. Great songwriter. Great band. Haven't listened to these guys in a while and then heard this on World Cafe on NPR a couple of weeks ago. Love this effin song!! Fantastic harmonies indeed.

  • Great song. Great songwriter. Great band. Kind of forgot about these guys and heard this on World Cafe on NPR a couple of weeks ago. Love this song!

  • Lovely harmonies: very important to me.

Love their sound, lyrics and overall let me just say: excellent, first-rate: a ten for sure!

    (thanks neil)

  • very nice rythm and melody.

  • Bang! ia a fabulous CD - never tired of hearing it over and over in the car on long trips - every song seems sweeter /catchier than the previous one

  • Good God I love this song!!! Who out there has seen them live? Last time they came to Denver I couldn't go. Is it a great show?

    Thanks

  • I saw World Party on tour with Steely Dan in Australia in Sept '07. This song rocked live. In fact, the whole set rocked each of the FIVE TIMES I saw it. I'm a huge Steely Dan fan and it was a major bonus to have World Party open. Karl Wallinger tweaked some of the songs night to night, but generally they just went harder.

  • God as my witness, I haven't heard ten melodies prettier than this or a sadder lament. I have tears in my eyes right now. Karl Wallinger was, and likely still is, a great songwriter. Some people in society fall through the cracks, and sometimes great songwriters, too. The world is filled with idiots and a few, maybe too many geniuses. God bless the overlooked, the ignored, the lost, and the insane. I hope you who read this is not one of these.

  • I forgot this song even existed until I heard it at the mall. There's just something about this song that makes it unique.

  • I remember this song, but revisiting it now, so many years later brings a poignance, and a sadness in his lyric, melody and voice that (I'm not lying) brings tears to my eyes. It strikes a chord of melancholy in me that makes me happy to be alive and wish I was never born. How does something so beautiful hurt so much?

  • Great song, but does anyone know why the lyrics are different on the album version of the song? The album version is about a minute longer as well...

  • You probably answered your own question, mate. MTV would never play a 5 minute video. Oh sure, when a video debuts and has extra stuff at the start or end (see Twisted Sister), they played the full version a couple times, but it was edited down right quick.

  • James2980, It's from World Party's 'Bang!' album. It's one of my favourites.

But, please, someone address my curiosity. Karl was in the Waterboys? 'Whole of the moon' etc? Please tell me about his involvement. When did World Party start etc?

  • It's True. Karl was in the Waterboys up until right before Fisherman's Blues was released. He and Mike Scott had a falling out and he quit to form World Party in the mid-eighties. He even wrote a song about it. To Spite him, Mike and the Waterboys recorded it and put it on Fisherman's Blues. It's actually about Karl's decision to leave the band.

  • Yes - Karl Wallinger played keyboards (+ some guitar I think) for the Waterboys. This song 'Is It Too Late Now', & 'Message in a Box' are my faves.

  • when is this song from?

  • when was this song made? is it available on a cd album?

  • It was released off of their 1993 album, Bang! I think the original edition is out of print, but it was reissued in 2006. Great album.

  • I love World Party! I love Karl Wallinger! Why aren't they hugely famous??????????

  • if you paid attention to their lyrics you would understand why.

  • i know! probably because of rap and shit like that. World Party Rocks!

  • People just don't get it! But it's nice to have something for yourself isn't it?

But this was played A LOT at MTV tho'

  • Where have they disappeared to ? They made

    some intelligent songs......HALLO ! Anybody

    out there...

  • Hi David,

    Thank you for your comment.

World Party are alive and doing all right. Karl is currently in his Studio in London recording his new release which will be released sometime this year. We aree hoping early Spring.

    And tours to follow.
