The conduct of the Aztecs wasn't that different from the Spaniards. Conquests have taken place throughout the world and throughout time. That's just the way it goes. Do you see any other conquering nations and civilizations apologizing and returning anything? Europeans took their lumps too. Nobody apologized to them or gave anything back.
