It was extremely ruff for a kid(amerasian) to grow up in that environment...let along living there for 20+ yrs......i cant even begin to image all the "pain" of anh Cuong...

My dad sponsor for my mom and sister (1983) to the states...i too was born in bien hoa and lived their for ten yrs till 83 when we board the plane for "fatherland"....even though my dad (not G.I) electrical engineer and my mom where leagally married...the vietcong punish by putting her in "camp" for 4-6 yrs.

My heart is filled with pain and anger for the injustice any Amerasian person (like myself) went through and still endure in Vietnam. I was adopted by a Vietnamese family and relocated to US in 1980. I no longer have a relationship with my adoptive family and have not had one since 1989. When I reflect on my life, I think somewhere in Vietnam, I have brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and uncle and then reality kicks in...I'm a product of the war; a bastard child!!!!!!!!!

My parents have know idea why they exist. Was it really a romantic relationship that gave them life? Or was it just a five dollar bill? As the grandchild of two Americans, I frequently ask myself these questions. Certainly they weren't raped...but I don't even know that for a fact. Poor him! I'm extremely sorry 'cause i'm a Vietnamese living in Vinhlong but i can't do any thing to help him. If i can see him, i will give him some money although i'm poor too. There're many charities in VN but there're also too many poor ones, they can't help all of them. About the immigration, I think it's too difficult for him to go to the USA without ID and passport.

This is very touching. The Vietnamese American & VNmese around the world should focus on giving money to the Thuong Phe Binh VNCH (South Vietnamese Disabled Veterans) & My Lai (Amerasians in Vietnam) charities because these charities r those really need help & they r part of the old South Vietnamese. Not that we don't help the poor children in VN, but we should not focus in those Children too much becuz they belong to the VC and it is the VC duty to care about them, let the VC do their job.

No, I did not. Hoang Thanh did. He is an Amerasian himself and has been actively raising money to help these fellow Amerasians. I wish I knew more about his charity works so that anyone would like to donate, they will have the opportunity to do so. But that's not going to happen for now.

even if you have all the necessary documents and money, it's next to impossible to get a immigration visa from the US consulate in HCMC. they're a pain in the ass. you have all kinds of bureaucracy and corrupt officials to deal with. you might think that the US consulate is not corrupt, but it is. there are vietnamese at the front line. you have to get pass them before you can have a shot at the US officials.

When the Amerisian program started , VietNamese peoples even pay money to be adoptive parent for all Amerisian . So they all can go to USA . I understand your frustration. This may sound simple but its not easy for these poor and uneducated Amerasians. I agree with you the physical appearance of Amerasians is one of the most important criteria but first they have to find ways to get their foot in the door of the U.S. Embassy in Saigon.

Since U.S. officials totally rely on VC government in providing the list, I believe these Amerasians are victims of corrupt VC officials who are responsible for making arrangements for them to sign up at local government offices, and providing U.S. officials with lists of applicants. If these Amerasians dont have money to pay some fee, they are obviously out of luck.
