actually the apple think wasnt really taken from wrath of kahn. JJ abrams hates people eating apples in movies and the apple thing just happened some how but if you want to be a reference go ahead.
17 minutes ago i think this movie (star trek 2009)and harry potter and the half blood prince where the best summer movies of last yr,they put x men origins and transformers 2 to shame.
was anybody else disappointed about the whole Vulcan Descends Into Blackhole thing? O.0" I spent basically the latter half of the movie after that part thinking that they were going to somehow bring it back and when they didn't...I was a little jabbed. xDDDDDD I mean GUH. Poor Spock.
scribs, I agree with the blackhole thing but have you stopped to think that Kirk was born in space because of the timeline displacement? Obviously Nero going back in time jolted something important.
anyways good review guys, and I'm glad people liked this movie. I had issues with it myself but I can pretty much overcome them for the sake of..you know..loving what Star Trek is and all that! =D
Sorry, I'm not a sycophant. I wanted to love this movie {hurray, they're bringing back classic Trek!} I truly did. But I couldn't get past the crappy story, lame villain, freaking lens flares, and hundreds of other faux paux.
I'm having a hard time, finding out wether you support my points or criticise them.
The fact that even an average viewer like me can find a long list of painfully obvious flaws, that don't require much thinking to find, even further supports my point.
If the mistakes made in the movie were so minor that only the "hardcorediest" of fans would find them, i wouldn't have problem with it.
Any of the trek movies before this one (or in the entire history of the show) you'll find just as many inconsistencies, silly plot devices, weak plot points, etc...I just personally believe this was the best put together and most entertaining trek movie I've seen.
I liked the action, but was overall very disappointed that the story line of "Trek" series was thrown away. IMHO, the only redeeming qualities the movie had were the actors that played Dr. McCoy and Spock, they did a great job as far as recreating the basic personality traits that Kelly and Nimoy used on the show. The actors that played Kirk and Uhura, on the other hand seemed like complete strangers.
plus, they could have just done an all digital cg version of star trek if they wanted to reboot, with all the original casts voices except deforest, and brought in some voice immatator for him.
if they really wanted to reboot this, they should have done something with the time travel element in enterprise and have them able to visit all the series. that would have been pimp and made me drink less, they can cg arnold in t4, they can cg all the actors in all the older series.
hail budwiser. anymore i just want to drink bud after sequels and the thought of, especially after they drop the great music out of the franchise like terminator, james bond. movie was ok, terrible soundtrack. you guys need to warn of spoilers doing reviews thou lol.
I wonder how many people got the Enterprise reference? Scottie getting sent to Delta Vega by Archer for killing his cat. I guess beagles still dont live longer in the future.
Only a fool would think that anything could kill the original Star Trek. The only thing this movie did was give new life and new appeal to a franchise that had hit it's peak 40 years ago.
"to a franchise that had hit it's peak 40 years ago."
How can you say that? The original short-run show was cancelled and only became a hit in re-runs in the 70s. StarTrek hit its peak in the 90s with TNG, DS9, VOY and all the spin-offs and movies. That was when ST was re-invented with new crews and stories; the difference is they respected canon and didn't change the past.
The film was like the SW prequels - lots of contrived, pointless action. The product placement and sets were cheap.

What about Gary seven and his super powered transporter.
jrnault77 2 years ago
I never thought of that. I suppose the changes in the timeline could indeed have led them to develop a much longer range transporter.

the best star trek movie ever made ??! have you even watched the others (rethorical) ?
delta vega is no where near vulcan
beeing so close to a black hole to acctualy see it would kill you.
red matter is just a silly plot devise that has never been seen before and probably will never be seen again.
warp beaming?!!
neros motivation was just silly
just to name a few
this movie was a punch to face for the fans, it says only one thing: we want a cow to milk, we dont care about the francise

Gubly,
Your right on with your comments.
Here's some more:
Black Hole is a time portal in the beginning but in the end it's used at it should...as a destructive force of nature.
Kelvin lasts a long time in a fire fight but later on Nero's ship destroys 4 star ships in less than 50 seconds.
Product placement.
Kirk was born in Iowa NOT space.
Scotty killing Archer's dog ? Did this happen just a few months ago?
Uhura and Spock's affair.
Cadet to Capt....nice advancement.
fmscribs 2 years ago
No. 1 it is an alternate reality.
No. 2 Nero had 25 years to adapt his weapons to federation star-ships. Also, those ships weren't aware he was there. Thus, their shields were down.
The Kelvin's shields were up BEFORE Nero fired on it.
Alright, maybe the Cadet to Captain thingy was weird. But hey, it's only 1. -___-

To begin with, you aren't supposed to be able to see a singularity.
So screw with the tiny details and god-damned enjoy it.
