  • Beautiful, mankind really doesnt give up does it? nice. I hope this rover has a visual recording device rather than just photos this time. That'd be awesome to see live action video footage of the rover driving across mars!

  • I think it was sort of dumb to not fit Opportunity with brushes to dust off its own solar panels!

  • I wonder how hard it is to do the space mechanics for the path of travel for the rover spacecraft.

  • Gods speed fair curiosity... Gods speed...

  • When you see a picture of the rover you really don't realize how big it is...

  • Rule 1 for the new colony: Religion is banned. Those practicing it will be deported back to earth.

  • @mrswinkyuk haha lol. i agree with you

  • why does the U.S. have to be a military world power. why cant we be a scientific world power.

put most of our military spending into nasa so one day we can colonize other planets.

  • @ppp9922 The U.S. is a scientific world power. Though I do agree that more money should be allocated to NASA's budget, and not the already massive defense budget.

  • @ppp9922 Haha the ratio of military expense to that of science expense in America is shocking! Then again it is in most parts of the world :(

  • Great video but they never said how long they expect it to work, nor did they say how long the MMRTG battery lasts for.

  • @arthurleon1387 They last for a very long time. Longer than they would need it to be operational for.

  • Seen some of these videos about Mars talking about perchlorate or high levels of it that would be in the water supply on mars, if we sent people there and they used that water supply would they take an ion exchange unit to purify the water to grow plants on mars?

  • a nuclear powered robot being sent to mars is far cooler than any of the high tech military shit we waste our money on

  • I love when science is used for a good purpose.

  • hey, how long will curiosity will hawe energy to work?? becouse it looks like the mission will be long (:

  • Can i have an MMRTG in my electric car?

  • I don't like it. It's too complexed. There's too much that go wrong, especially with those landing thrusters.

  • soon baby soon

  • I love Eart, but I don't like humans..

  • This is an awesome playlist.

  • lol the bird at 0:49 is like, ohhh shit, turning around

  • Gah, I can't help but wonder what would happen if the planetary descent stage failed.. :(

  • NASAS BIGGEST COVER-UP EVER! LIFE ON MARS...CONFIRMED...

  • Wow, it plays heavy metal music and shoots lasers! Awesome!! LOL 1:44

  • "That we can study with curiosity.." :D

  • After the shuttle, what's next for human transport?

  • @7to777

A lot is coming from private companies, and we also have Soyuz. SpaceX's Dragon capsule is actually supposed to dock with the ISS this year.

  • @MisterNutt007 Thanks for your answer 007 and for mars same transport too?

  • Why would anyone dislike this?

  • @Twisted548 The same people that expect to see little green aliens in their life time - people who expect too much.

  • how fast is this rover traveling to mars?

  • 09:32

    OH MY REASON!

  • Such an impressive device! Not to mention it is incredibly cool.

  • i hope they discover awesome things like acient lif on mars or the building blocks of life.

    it wasnt a dead world.

  • 25 november is my birthday :o

  • @isakilla1 who cares.

  • I'm from the future

  • In Malaysia the abrome hates american because evolution kills their ya yah big god .... the words that dropped from heaven and propel what others say terrorism to the 1st world, hero hero Mr.Osama BN Ladin to the 3rd world. The only thing that stops abrome hatred white towards white men is mat salleh allowed physically, mentally, emotionally round the clock tortures to only one person....Unrecognized Asylum Seeker to the World. EVIL equal MAD plus CRIMINAL MENTALITIES

  • just like in the movies

  • They launched this thing on my birthday haha.

  • When is this landing?

  • The instant we start planning for a colony on mars I'll be rushing to get in line. I don't want to live here anymore.

  • @TheAnubisDrake ikr. But the question is, IS THERE WIFI ON MARS!?!?!?!

  • @StarcoGAMES I'll bring a hot spot.

  • @TheAnubisDrake If you can't be happy here on earth with the vast space, resources and diverse peoples, you probably won't fit in well with a small number of people cramped in confined living quarters with scarce resources.

  • @DDDDanDDDD I have no problem with resources being scarce and most of the people that want to go are similarly minded people. I'm sure it would be fine.

  • @TheAnubisDrake Indeed. Soon, the Earth will not be a safe place to live. We have taken it for granted far too long.

  • @GreaterDeity Soon is a matter of perspective.

  • @TheAnubisDrake I'm very well aware.

  • @TheAnubisDrake Firstly, no colony in Mars, considering its size(ten times smaller that Earth). Secondly, why do you think things on some other planet would be any different?

  • @Grey13Human Earth is 2.54 times the size of mars, not 10. We fit billions of people here. We can definitely fit a few million there.

Many of the people that would, like me, want to leave wish to do so for many of the same reasons.

    Anything else to consider?

  • @TheAnubisDrake The Earth is 10 times the weight of Mars, 6-7 times the volume. Why dont you check Wikipedia? And what da fuck are you you gonna do there, pal? There is nothing there. Almost no water, almost no athmo, no life(i.e., no food), low gravity, high solar radiation, below zero temps. It's a desert. Do you realize how expensive it would be to live there? There is a whole almost untouched continent here on Earth that is much more suitable for living than Mars. Antarctica.

  • @Grey13Human I did check just before I replied with that. I didn't bother to look up the "mass" since you had talked about "size" and I knew that to be wrong.

You have no idea why I would want to go there. Way to just make up a bunch of crap on your own and then telling me I'm deluded over what you claimed my reasons could be.

How about if I'm a geologist, or metallurgist? What then?

  • @Grey13Human Someone has to maintain the metal components of a colony.

  • @TheAnubisDrake I also like sci-fi and all that, but face the truth. Even ISS receives less sola radiation than Mars surface.

Also, why do you want to go there? Suppose, there will be a colony on Mars. What do you expect to find there that you cant find here? Or maybe some thing here, on Earth, bothers you and you want to get away from it? Whatever that thing you're running from is, you and those with you would most surely bring it along to the "new world". Dont delude yourself.

  • @Grey13Human Lol, you'll be wishing yourself back to Earth. Unless we terraform mars.

  • @Grey13Human What is size? Radius, diameter when talking about spheres. So in finding the volume what affects the volume? Radius, diameter, so if the density is known, size is the factor that changes everything.

  • @TheAnubisDrake I feel so bad for you, you make one (mostly) sarcastic comment and a bunch of smartarses come along trying to make you feel stupid. Please give them what they deserve and ignore them

  • @ArmourTheLlama Thanks but no. I'll continue to burst their bubble. It's fun for me and educational for them :P

  • @ArmourTheLlama He is stupid, And so are you.

  • @TheAnubisDrake 2.54 the size, but since we're talking about spheres you need to apply the that the volume in proportional to the square of the radius.

  • @jaggedspikerespawn Again you said size, not volume, not mass, not any other thing you want to try to bring up.

  • @TheAnubisDrake You realize they are all related right?

  • @jaggedspikerespawn Size is not related to mass at all. Unless you are looking for density.

Size does have to do with volume though the terms are not synonymous.

  • @TheAnubisDrake Size does matter if we are talking about a density of a mass we know. i.e. the Earth or Mars.

  • @TheAnubisDrake Size in other words is essential volume in respect to spheres.

  • @TheAnubisDrake same here but lets leave the useless people behind

  • @TheAnubisDrake yeah, but the problem is who would be the leader on the mars colonies?

  • @myr576 There are dozens of forms of governance, some that don't even require "leadership." I'm sure we could figure one out.

  • @TheAnubisDrake yeah but my point is that it is highly possible that it would be colonized by a certian country and what ever country that is would have 100% controll of mars. There for, we would have the same crap governments and the only difference would be the planet they govern you on. I mean, just sayin, its possible that it wouldnt be much different, but that dont mean that I wouldnt be first in line to atleast see how it goes.

  • @myr576 The colony could always break away and become it's own country :D

  • @TheAnubisDrake true, but still as always, there is always a possibility of a corrupt government. Still like i said, I will still be the first in line to live on mars. Hey, ya never know it could end up being a utopia.

  • @TheAnubisDrake well if something happens on mars like an infection out break we arent helping u (unfortunately i watch doctor who too much)

  • Curiosity absolutely must survive the descent to mars!

  • Im wondering if anybody knows how long will this MMRTG will last???

  • I THOUGHT THAT PARACHUTES ONLY WORK WITH AIR SO HOW DOES PARACHUTES WORK ON MARS IF THEIRS NO AIR

  • @masterdelrap, Mars has an atmosphere, it's just 100 more rarified than Earth's, so the parachutes have to be much larger to create the same amount of drag as they would on earth.

  • anyone know the song at 11:30?

  • It's not scientific to say that the oldest layers are the deepest since you cannot prove, falsify, demonstrate, test and observe that idea. Radiometric dating is assumed to work on material of unknown age and does NOT work on material of KNOWN age. R u open-minded?: YouTube CSE-01 Age of the Earth (Full) Kent Hovind. When there is a flood, the oldest layers can actually be on the top and the youngest on the bottom. Subscribe! :)

  • @ForeverFlame88 Kent Hovind is a Creationist dumbass and a joke. His only mission is to defend the Bible at any cost even when that means making shit up.

  • @ForeverFlame88 Absolute nonsense. If you want Creationism... go to a Creationist source. If you want science... go to a scientific source. However do NOT go to a Creationist source for... science.

  • Aug 5, 2012!! Can't wait!

    Best wishes to Curiosity.

  • wow...soon we will have addons for 30 sec when we are trying to sign-in to youtube

    nevertheless, love the video :)

  • you know, I don't think many people realize this is real. We, Humans, are able to build such extraordinary machines and sent them into space is just amazing.

  • 9:08 There's our present to ourselves: humanity's ever increasing scientific knowledge.

  • why cant we stick some mirco-organisms that produce oxygen on mars?

  • @dudelivestrong Because saying it is enough means, a stop to evolution. We need to move on, because we develope.

  • @dudelivestrong Because those micro-organisms need liquid water to do their thing.

  • just to think, that right now, it speeding though the vacuum of space, towards a brand new world.... amazing and scary to think about

  • @cejason Yeah, and at thousands of miles per hour.

  • what is its speed in meters/hour I guess or yards/hour

  • Peter Illsley didn't accept my linkedin invitation. It's like facebook, but for professionals.

  • Thousands of software testing? 1000 hours = 62 days of work.

  • @CognitiveNetwork 62 seems shorter than 1000hours

  • @DataC0llect0r If you work 16 hours a day, 1 shift, including weekends, 1000 hours is 62 days. 1000 hours / (8+8) Hours/Day

  • Finding traces of life is the primary objective. Exploration is one of the key factor to move forward. Those problems mentioned by Photosynthesisbeing cannot be solved by pure science. It is believed that you all know Canada has withdrew from the kyoto protocol, which was active in negotiations leading to the Kyoto Protocol of 1997. No matter what this series of video enhance my knowledge. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. :)

  • That just Blew my mind

  • So we find out if mars had/has life then what? I'm just curious.

  • What a waste of time. We all know mars has no magnetic field. This is what helps support life on Earth. oh ok lets live underground..... they can barely build mines around earth safely let alone living underground in an unhospitable planet millions of miles way. Give them a few years they will sort it..... the current greed and economy we face on our earth combined with the immense strain our population is having we wont last long enough as a species to live on Mars. I dare anyone to disprove me

  • @Photosynthesisbeing "Its primary mission objective is to determine whether Mars is or has ever been an environment able to support life." Freaking read the description before you post dumb shit. What are you talking about mines? We have high tech bunkers that are self sustainable and you could live there for a 100 years or more. Asking to disprove the fact if we as a specie wont kill eachother before we colonize mars is a dumb dare, nobody can see into the future dumbass.

  • @Photosynthesisbeing

    u mad bro?

  • @Photosynthesisbeing Thank you for this fine comment, it is clear you have a substantial background in astrobiology. I mean yeah, despite the fact that, by mass, most life on earth is underground, these scientists CLEARLY have no idea what they are doing. Surely you know more about science than the people who design spacecraft capable of traveling tens of millions of miles between planets.

  • Nice alloys! ;D

  • Great mission. Let`s hope it is 100% sucessful. By and large NASA`s record of Mars exploration is pretty good unlike the European and Russian space agencies.

  • dear santa

  • Gotta love that "reusable container do not destroy" written on the side on Curiosity's packing crate at 09:12. Makes me wonder who among us would stare at a NASA packing crate and say well I have no idea what this is and its taking up space in my globemaster. Let's dump it out the back and save some cash on our gas bill.

  • 9:25 Optimus Prime

  • Cool

  • HOWS THE CURE FOR THE FLU/COLD COMING ALONG. OH YA THERE IS THIS STARVATION THING GOING ON TOO.

  • @TGUlricksen entirely different field of science, bud

  • @9fires Ya and its got way more funding than it should have at this present time.

  • @TGUlricksen

    Obvious troll but...

If the kind of technology we recieve from the space department devellops further, eventually we will have machines wich will counter starvation.

Also, real men can take the flu.

  • @SNoRRo Not a troll...and watching my children suffer is harder than having the flu so Fuck off.

  • @TGUlricksen

If they are suffering from the flu, it's probably because the genes you gave them can't produce a decent imune system.

Also if you really knew the stuff about chakra's and crap you have on your channel background, then you would know disease is just a state of mind.

So don't blame science for that.

  • This is nothing short of awesome.

  • every time i watch a shuttle launch video there is ALWAYS a bird flying away as its launching lol

  • @JustSomeGuyOk lol i thought i was the only one that noticed that

  • This will not make news frontpages; and that makes me truely sad.

  • @breakdanceexpress That's because 95% of the American public consist of rednecks, bored housewives, clueless teenagers, white trash and people who voted for G W Bush. A 5% demographic isn't enough for any for-profit news organization to cater to.

  • @kossmikham

Hyperbole is the chosen tool of the ignorant.

  • @Strideo1 It's called reality. It only seems like hyperbole if you are part of the poorly educated and non-curious vast majority.

  • People should know this is a big deal.. this is the closest humans will be to stepping on Mars, without actually doing it themselves. And it could even be argued that with the harsh atmospheric conditions on Mars, Curiosity will actually do a better job than humans could do. With all its equipment, we will know for once and all if life has ever existed on Mars. This finding will greatly change our outlook about life in the universe, and our place in it.

  • August/5/2010 ??? Boy that's my birth day!!

  • @FallasDeOrigen1 A coincident? I THINK NOT! ;)

  • @FallasDeOrigen1

    2012 - Make sure it's a SpaceRip themed party. :P

  • it must be so rewarding for all those people to see their hard work off to do something absolutely amazing

  • @rocketsoccer1 Just imagine the disappointment when these decades of people's work are rendered useless because the something goes wrong with the propulsion or communication of the vessel. I feel for the Russian scientists.

  • @SubTachyon i cant even imagine what it must be like

  • @rocketsoccer1 lets pray there are no bugs in software and no hardware errors and this baby lands safe!

  • @johnnyxp64 no prayers needed. In Mars they worship.. uh... Mars....

  • @rocketsoccer1 at the end of the day, "those people" you mention, is a reference to Nazi germany. The first forms of these rockets were german (you know, the V1 and V2) and later taken by the US after the end of the war, first used for military, and only in the late 50s did they start being used for space purposes.

How ironic is that. The people everyone calls the devil, cuz well, you were taught that way, were the propellers of these events. Interesting to say the least.

  • yes thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • @Givemeabreakman1 Mutated Poisonous Death Traps. The horror!!

  • What's the music at 11:20 ??

  • @Kg277 : It's called "Long Road Ahead" by Kevin Macleod, such a nice piece of music!

  • wow, curiosity is like a living system.

  • nice rims wtf

  • It's incredible how fantastic this channel is....

  • Great video, SpaceRip. When you watch the dedication and the knowledge that go into endeavours like this, it makes you think there may be some hope for humanity after all.

  • Curiosity killed the cat

  • @tonyblackops 1 cat ?

  • whats the song name when he's describing gale crater

  • The rocket looks rather small for such a sizable payload...

  • This is without a doubt the coolest thing to happen in exploring space. I'm excited to see what is discovered!

  • This is so awesome, I truly regret studying business instead of something technical. =(

  • I love the perfection that goes into a success of this kind. One TINY mistake can ruin the whole mission.

Now if we could just use this intelligence to fix our pathetic school system, where we rank 25th in the world in Science and Math...........

  • 0:08 Therr strong pulling all that by a piece on nano-string LOL

  • How many years can it be powered by that plutonium dioxide

  • Great video. However, I think the music could be a little quieter to make the narration easier listening. :)

  • Thank you for the awesome video! :)

  • ...you made a Mr Fusion for the rover. BRILLIANT!

  • hey spacerip i want a 2 hour video after curiosity landed on mars... ;)

  • Wow touch down on august?

Hey guys why not put some covering protective plates instead of just rugged and skeleton like?

    I'm just curious :P

  • @specterseal999 Simple: weight.

The lighter it is, the less energy it needs to move.

  • If you guys look at the wikipedia entry for Mars_Science_Laboratory, a little way down there's a pic of Curiosity, Pathfinder and Spirit/Opportunity. It's like a little robotic family :D

  • as an american i will apologize on behalf of my thick headed leaders and their electors for giving over half a trillion dollars a year to kill people on the other side of the world yet less than $20B to fund agencies like nasa. its like throwing all human intelligence on the ground and defficating on it.

  • @sorry8140 Don't feel too bad - there's plenty of stupidity outside of the US too!

  • its so tough they need to keep it dust free and handle it with gloves...nasa i love you but your an odd bunch some times

  • very distracting background music

  • sick video.

  • LOVE spacerip!! My school contributed to this mission!! Wooo science rules lol

  • It's a shame this channel gets so little attention.

  • great interesting!!! thx for uploading

  • terrible music

  • What the hell YouTube... Ads during the middle of the video too now? That's bullshit.

  • this will be the best mission on mars. They need to put a similar thing like this on titan

  • @InFlamesHeavier Hey. I didn't know you watched Spac
