But, the simple fact is, I, like millions others, can sleep peacefully at night, knowing that the blood pumping through my veins is Scottish. I'm English too but the Scots sure were a great team in the 70's.I think if Mcleod had been a bit more serious and levelheaded,he could have done great things with that squad.Dalglish,Souness,Gemmil,McGrain,Jordan,what a superb group.They beat the euro champs,Czechoslovakiain their group to qualify,don't forget,and they were some team.
Another thing I read recently about 1978: everyone feared Scotland,the Germans,Italians and Dutch.They simply didn't want to draw Scotland.

It's shite being British! We're the lowest of the low and all that. I live outside London & a year ago you had to be a millionaire to buy a decent house in the city. I knew it was madness at the time but it's amazing how docile the public becomes during the 'good times'.

This goal looks as if it was preplanned choreography. The Dutch defense made a balls of the first bit of choreography against the Scottish number 8, when they accidently got the ball... but then they got the sliding and falling perfect for Gemill, and the defender and goalie even created a wee space for him to slot the ball into the net...
only joking... I'm Irish and remember this goal. I was 14. When Gemill put that ball in the net I did two laps of our housing block... roaring and cheering
