Yes under the fascist type of government that Alaska operates under she could fire Monegan for the color of his socks. Just as Hitler was perfectly under his rights in Nazi Germany to kill 6 million Jews, it was legal for him to do that under German law. I just don't understand why Palin did not just say she fired Monegan because he did not fire Wooten? Why did Palin not just fire Wooten herself as the Governor with an executive order? Keep Alaskan Fascism in Alaska.

Monegan was the Director of Public Safety. He was the "go to guy" for staff to refer constituent complaints about trooper misconduct (including Todds concerns about Wooten).It was appropriate for him to receive these complaints and the expectation that he would at the minimum refer them to the trooper's immediate supervisers. No investigations ever resulted from complaints referred to Monegan. .

Well actually the Internal Affairs division of Alaska's Public Safety Dept. did investigate and bring disciplinary charges on Wooten so there is no need to LIE nicentofante and say they did not investigate.

I personally think 5 days suspension inadequate disciplinary action for this dirty cop's multiple infractions. So I am not impressed with the performance of the Alaska Public Safety Department under Monegan.

I would have to agree with you that if Sen Ted Stevens and Palin is the best Alaska can do the whole state must be a joke, they should have remained a territory they are not even close to being ready for statehood. Monegan wasn't doing his job AND he was insubordinate. He held a public news conference where he announced he didn't support Palin's budget priorities and he was going to Wahington to lobby directly for earmarks to fund projects within his department. He was insubordinate and that got him transferred (not fired). He quit (wasn't fired). Palin has every right to fire political appointees who aren't team players. He wasn't even her appointee. He was a carry over from another administration.

Well at least AG Colberg is not going to criminally charge Palin and be insubordinate by following the law instead of Palin. Colberg knows he answers to Palin and not Alaskan Law. Senator French appointed by Senator Elton to be project manager of probe also member Alaska Obama Election Committee. French is also a personal friend of Monegan's. Stood with Monegan at press conference that led to Monegan's transfer. As soon as Palin received GOP nomination told national news reporter he intended outcome of probe to be an October Surprise.

Elton refused to reconvene Judicial Council until after the Judicial Committee chaired by French voted 3-2 to approve the subpoena list vetted and edited by French before the meeting. The independent investigator Branchflower wasn't exactly independent. He was told by French what public statements to make. He submitted the subpoena list to French before bringing it to the Judiciary Committe. Rep. Guttenberg (D) questioned both Branchflower and French about irregularities on the subpoena list.

oops. Elton refused to reconvene Legislative council (not Judicial) when requested by a majority of members of the Council. He stonewalls until the Speaker of the House intervenes 9 days later. By then Judiciary Committee has met and approved the possibly tainted subpoena list. As I said before partisan hatchet job. As I said before both French and Elton commandeered the probe for their own partisan objectives. Compromised its objectivity. Both work for the Obama campaign.

However she was compassionate enough to offer Monegan a position in another department instead of firing him. He quit rather than be transferred. So how is that a scandal?

Actually the Alaskan form of Government which can be defined as:

a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

Is quite efficient and any laws which limit the power of a Governor in Alaska should be repealed.

The Legislative Councils original instructions were that the investigation be unbiased and objective. Troubled by French's "October surprise" comments a majority of Legislative Council members requested that Senator Elton reconvene. Others requested he replace French. Elton refused. The probe was clearly compromised by partisan politics.

It took an order by the Speaker of the House to finally get Senator Elton to reconvene the Legislative Council. The Alaska Attorney General rejects the validity of the subpoena list approved by the Judicial Committee and instructs state employees that the State Senate or Legislature must vote to compel testimony. Probe information was incomplete and possibly biased because only willing employees cooperated.

The librarian's response that she would refuse satisfied Palin's curiosity. This is a case of true true but unrelated. Yes Palin asked the librarian this question. (No list of books to be banned was ever submitted). And yes Palin had a later conflict with the same librarian that resulted in Palin firing her (then retracting it).
