now THATS what i call an r&b singer... how come most new r&b fans dont know rythm and blues? what a woman this was too! did the folk revival festivals with the segers, and stood with the civil rights movement!
and isnt it weird how big skinny ernie's voice is too?
What an awesome recording. I think most old recordings have much nicer acoustics in general. If somehow they would've been recorded the same way with todays technology... We did downgrade to 128kps mp3s. So that's probably worst.
@hojoslugger301 Its called 'Just The Facts Ma'am' By Woody Guthrie, but other people have called it 'The Bragging Song' or 'I was born 10,000 years ago'
About 20 years ago my girlfriend and I were channel surfing and found this broadcast on a public access station. Neither one of us had heard of Odetta; we were mesmerized by this performance! Through the years we purchased much of her catalog (and got married). Finally, we landed an original pressing of the album which included Pastures of Plenty by Odetta.
The real reward came when we met Odetta in 2001, and she signed our record that we worked so hard to find.
this is the only clip I can find of Odetta with the guitar--and the thing is, she was an amazing, energetic guitarist, with a number of interesting techniques, popping, thumping, frailing, and her own inventions. Yeah, her voice is amazing, but for us guitarists, it's a crime that there aren't hundreds of old videos of her that show what she was doing with the six-string, too.
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!

Both gone; both great. I wish they had worked together more--if you like the mezzo and bass as I do--this was nice.
