  • Interesting approach, never seen that before!

  • What does the V stand for in "BV02 - Prune"?

  • @HanakoFujita "Blue-Violet" 02, They also make things like BG or "Blue-Green" you always put primary colors before secondary colors.

  • @ookamiroxaskun13 Thank you! :)

  • that is very smart, i didnt use my copics like that and they ran out of ink very fast and then i have to get refills for all of my markers instead of just having a refills for the 00s.but for larger images you cant really do that cause it takes sooo much time.

  • i tried doing the pallet thing but ii found it really irritating....

  • OMG... you are so smart. I love your tips. You are a genius. And this saves SO much money! O_O Subbing you RIGHT NOW! Thank you so much again!

  • Since your using your light pens as your brushes does the darker color stain your lighter color markers? Does your lighter markers still show as their original color when you want to color something like with your E00? I just started using copic and scared to do this cause I don't want to ruin the marker. feedback appreciated :)

  • great tutorial!! :D very good, bye from Italy : )

  • holy shit as soon as you said hawaii i had to comment lol. where do you get these? i cant find any at fishers. do you order online?

  • Thank you for sharing... especially on creating a palette. It would make working on a project away from home so much easier than transporting lots of markers.

  • I like the light source tip, I always have that problem or forget where its coming from! Great idea :)

  • love the way u say "gonna"..its so sexy

  • Just out of curiosity I've got this as a present but my birthday is next weekend on september. Is the brush nib quite sturdy or is it really flexible, or in between.

  • @foomidins between :) i use copics markers for 4 years, the brush is lightly sturdy but still very soft at the tip of it

  • great tip about using a color palette. I don't know why i didn't think of that, being i do the same w/my stampin up markers.. LOL Thanks for the tutorial.

  • Um....I don't know if anyone has said this, and I don't mean to sound as if I don't appreciate this tutorial, but when she says the only difference is the cost, another thing is that Sketch comes in more colors than Ciao.

  • Thank you for creating a more economical way cause i was worried about how much money i had to spend for copic markers so creating a palette and buying only the lightest and darkest colors are a great idea Thanks again :)

  • Yea these markers r sooo expensive they cost $7 per marker so I spent $56 on 8 markers

  • very helpful Thank You.

  • @DenBetCo 'Further uses'? So then how come it's so hard to find a marker tutorial that ISN'T about rubber stamping?

  • Great tutorial! Didn't know about using the acrylic block until today and I've been studying. Thanks!

  • Did u draw the fox? really cool...

  • how much did ur copic markers cost?

  • @tiffany09808 these marker are the most expencive marker i ever seen i wish i had money 2 buy them. i have seen once before a set of copic markers from 12 markers from around € 100,- so its expencive

  • How come the colors on the non-porous surfaces don't dry out?

  • @mak3myda3 It does dry out on the acrylic block but the wet ink from the marker she is using makes it wet again.

  • How often do you have to replace them?

  • yay! thanks for doing this n_n

  • What's the Copic you are painting with? A Blender?

  • Just got a couple dozen copics and a bit frustrated that I could not get enough colours to effectively blend without buying scads right off the bat. Anyway, your tut showed me how to effectively blend my colours and get an exquisite result. Thanks so much. Holy wow this is an old youtube! lol

  • I've been looking at a lot of tutorials, of late, as a beginner. This is one of may favorite. It's great to know how to blend with light and dark when one does not have their entire collection of colors. Thank you.

For those with negative comments...go find your own art form videos. For those with complaints about what she did not cover....tell us what you know.

  • there are lots of comments

  • @rachypachy09 Wow, that's a rude remark! That kind person has worked hard to offer an excellent tutorial that will be useful to a lot of people. You always can do your own tutorial if you think you know better, instead of adopting that kind of rude tone. :(

  • @rachypachy09 there really arent that different but if u think there r a lot them tell me the differences if u think ur so smart

  • Is it just me, or do I hear music in the background ?

  • Thank you for a very, very good explaniation of these Copic pens. You are a great teacher!

  • how much are the pens? and do they come in sets, if so how much is a set?

  • du you draw fashion too?

  • @555000rocky she uses stamps dumbass

  • FANTASTIC tutorial!!! I absolutely LOVE the way you lay down your color!!!

  • Hi Jenn, great toot, thanks for sharing. never thought of placing them on acrylic block. i use Distress inks to colour but have just broken out my copics before they dry out :)... so, thank you for kickstarting me again..a different way and so much like the distress way.

    Hugs

    Ali.x

  • I love this Copic demo. You have taught me a great deal. Thank you so much. Sherrie

  • I never considered looking into these pens. Thanks for being so informative.

  • you say the o in c0pic not capic ,c0pic

  • @kellirenea100 all of the things in this video and this is what you concentrate on?

  • @kellirenea100

I started off with saying Cahpic until I found it was Copic but then after watching a Japanese interview with Too. They pronounced it Cahpic.

  • wow i never thought to use the markers like paints to acheive the shading like that

  • earth tones are different i got ya

  • thamk yoouu !°! :] it helped me alot

  • As someone looking to buy Copic Markers, this was extremely helpful to me and I appreciate your time!

  • How come her markers don't bleed outside the lines!? >_<

  • @UnusedCrayon I sometimes wonder that too lol

  • @UnusedCrayon marker paper dosent bleed through and its real thin

  • are you a member of stampin up jw

  • sorry...i'm italian and i don't understand english very well...could you write me the differences among copic, sketch and ciao markes?? I really thank you!

  • I love this technique. I have been hitting the lighter color on the darker color to get a mix, but i like the idea of the palette. Thanks for sharing this technique.

  • Thank you this was for informative. I would like to know if you can blend different colors to make new ones? What paper do recommend? I am a beginner do you recommend the basic set to start?

    Sherry

  • I kinda like that color pallet techniqe. Now i just need to find an acrilic block

  • I just baught 49 markers recently. I'm realy enjoying them but I spent about $250. I'm lucky cause I got them when the art store had a 30% off deal LoL. But I need so many more colors. probably gonna drop anther hundred in about a week. there are curently 334 colors to chose from O_o

  • Nice tutorial. ^-^

  • are u asian?

  • @hbjrockzz , She does say in the video: "This sketch here in Hawaii is 6 dollars for me".

    No, she's probably not Asian.

  • @Billythachikk I dunno, a lot of Asian American's live in Hawaii.

  • Wow this is a great tutorial!!!

I never knew that you could shade so well with only basic colors C:

I'm going to buy some 0's and 9's so i don't go crazy and buy every color (which i was going to do )

    Thank you!

  • Nice tutorial, thaanks for the upload. Also, what's that song playing super feintly (faintly?) in the backround?

  • I don't think I've ever seen Copic markers use as a "brush" and "pigment" before. Very interesting and informative.

  • This was super helpful!

  • A pack of 12 COPIC markers will cost you $56 in US currency,

  • @CarlsonsRaiders oozak.com will only have it cost $24.

  • where did you get the cute fox picture from??

  • whats your favorite color

and how much you have of copics it looks really well

  • Thanks very much for your excellent tutorial. You have explained to me fully what I did not know.

The picture your coloured is beautiful

  • Thank you so much. This video was so helpful to me.

  • But i heard that copic markers costs a lot.

  • GREAT TIP

  • how much do the copoic scetch cost in canada???? i never found them

  • @400adidas it would be $7 or $8 in canada, i don't think the exist there thought

  • @400adidas ABout $4 inTOronto Ontario...

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • WAT ABOUT THE PRISMAS....

  • @Scionster13

Prismas aren't even in the same league.

Berol doesn't use a color scale for the Prismacolor markers except for the grays (cool, warm, neutral). So you cannot discern shades and tints within a chroma range. Also, they tend to be "on the shelf" forever and have poor longevity after you've gotten them home. They're fine for crafts and roughs, but they aren't nearly durable, light-fast, or color stable enough for archival work.

  • Contrary to the horrible commenter -- I am Copic Novice but at the class I took they recommended the blending feature she demonstrated and it would not ruin the markers. Also you can purchase new tips if you like. My understanding was that these markers are suppose to blend with one another. You can even touch the marker tips to the marker tips for a special effect.

  • All that scraps and Custom crops I got a basic 12 ciao markers at custom crops.

  • You do know you could buy spare tips right? As long as you don't mix the refill ink in the wrong barrel you should be fine

  • @AkeginuShinonome

    BS

i use it the same way for a long time...

only the tip is in contact with the other colour and it disapears very soon and the pen is in the starting colour. why do u think she have to always go back to the other darker colour? because the pen is giving it up and then u have ur start colour again. sorry for my english. im in germany

  • @AkeginuShinonome I agree with germanjoe23. I've been using this method for quite a while now and my markers are fine. And blender doesn't really blend the colours together, it actually lightens them.

  • @AkeginuShinonome

I had never seen this particular technique before (i.e., picking up a darker shade from a non-porous palette) — but it totally makes sense.

Copic tips are self-cleaning. You're not going to ruin your markers, and if you do you can replace the tips super-economically. Plus, if you're serious about your art you aren't too concerned about replacing your consumables.

  • wow! thank you for upoad this :3

  • Wow, great info! Wish I'd know that before I bought so many of the markers. I've been buying the ciao a few at a time but now I will be sure to get the darkest and lightest colors in the color groups so I can use these technique. Thanks for posting this!

  • is there specific paper to use?

  • @tiplika26

Any good marker paper is good. I like Bienfang and Clearprint. Velum is cheap and good, but tends to be too transparent for my taste.

  • Jenn, great tutorial. You taught me some really useful basic information. Loved your tip of how to use dark & lightest markers. I bought my first 3 to play with and used them directly on the stamped image. Whoa! Not pretty! I'm going to try it your way right now. Thanks

  • where could you buy copics on oahu?

  • I got them out from this place called

    AKADOT RETAIL

  • Where can you get an acrylic block?

  • Michaels Arts and Crafts. Joanne Fabric.

  • Sketch and Ciao have more diffrences.

Ciao is expecially for Manga and anime, the medium broad is smaller then the one on sketch, and the brush is bigger then the one on sketch.

  • i was using my copic false for years, thx for that acrylic tip.

  • how much do copic markers cost in india..also do they come with a specific brand name??and where can i get these??

  • How much is an Acrilic block in hawaii?

  • great tutorial.

  • Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing!

Why the heck are people so nasty! I am a papercrafter, and I've been having a hard time getting even color with my Stampin' Up markers because I'm NOT an "artist" in the drawing sense of the word. I would LOVE markers that I can blend to create a great looking design and have been considering the Copics. Sorry if no hand drawing everything makes someone think that Copic doesn't want my money! *LOL* I'm sure they do!

  • YES a tutorial that have's someone who i can understand good, says good what you have to do and got the camera so that you can see good what happens, realy good tutorial ^^

  • I can't believe some of these stupid comments on this video over markers....lol God forbid any of you have a real problem in life to deal with some day because you won't be able to handle it if you're going to go ape sh** over a marker. YouTube really has a way of bringing out some of the best in people.

Thanks for doing this video on the Copic tutorial!!

  • well you are lucky in the UK as here in Australia they are any where from $6.95 to $10.00 each pen.

  • I bet Copic are so distressed that they are selling their markers to crafters, I'm sure they feel really mocked by it and they are probably sobbing as they cash their money. I will look for the part of the website which says,"We do not want to sell our products to anybody who isn't going to use them for the superior art form that is known as Manga Art".

There are many professional crafters, I don't see why they should use inferior pens to satisfy you!

  • BTW I pay £1.40 per pen individually and £1.26 in sets, so no different to the prices we pay in Engalnd for marvy Le Plume and Sakura (and Marvy are great but leave lines and no blending!)

I say "live and let live", I can't see why it has to be such an issue. We all have different ideas of what creativity is and that's what makes the world go around, and that's fine by me.

  • oh and they're $8-$9 a peice, for a 72 set is around $150-170$

  • The Cioa also cost a lot less, the smaller nib is not removable, and are less durable - but that's not a problem. More experienced people should get Sketch, original or wide, but I think it's best for beginners to stay with Cioa until they've gitten the hang of it.

  • I must thank you for this tutorial. I was wondering, is it really essential you smudge the copic across the acryllic block, or can you also apply some of these techniques 'straight from the pen'?

  • Whats the name of the marker that you suggested for beginners?

  • It was copic ciao.

  • i agree with you, using other peoples art isn't fair, yu should use your own creativity.

  • she does because the shape is perfect and she doesn't have to do it by herself, her tutorial is about how tu use Copic and render, not how to draw, so we don't care about the drawing.

You should be happy she is doing this effort for us, noobies, i THANK her REALLY MUCH for this, its very helpfull.

  • As I kinda understand and agree, people use copics in different ways. I myself draw my own pictures and color with copic, while other who do scrap booking like stuff us copics to color stamp pictures.

Who are we to determine what copics are used for?

  • excuse my typos sorry

  • I never used copic pens. Don't those pens stay dirty when you dip them into the darker colors? I know it is the purpose, but do they get clean again?

  • Yes. The other colour will eventually go off.

  • I second this question!

  • Your not supposed to dip them in darker colours. You colour from lightest to darkest. That's the same with any marker. The nice thing about copic markers is exchangeable nibs. So even if you dark colour tangles with your lighter brush, you can just switch nibs with out paying for a new marker.

  • great video! thanks a lot. :)

  • damn she got sexy hands!

  • Thank you very much for this. :) I'm something of a Copic noob, so this was very useful. Guess I'll have to go buy some new Copics tomorrow after work now!

  • I love your techniques and hope that you decide to keep making different video's. I'm in rural Wisconsin and we don't have places that hold copic classes, so I am trying to learn this on my own by trial and error! Thanks!!

  • Do u use a piece of glas as pallet?

And Neverendingcycle, I GUESS, dont really know, that just with other markers, if you just use them a little the other color you have on the top will dissapear.

  • Hey. The tutorial is very helpful. =D Thanks ^-^

  • I found a shop that sells the ciao's or £2 each and i've brought like 13 in two days....I cant even draw :O haha. this was helpful though, thanks! :)

  • nice thanks for teaching me! =]

  • Thats really good =)

  • how do you clean your markers then? if you pick up the darker colours, won't it stain the tip of your lighter marker?

  • thanks i was get some copics and wanted to now wt to get and how to use

  • omg thanks for posting this

this helped me so much ^^

  • Do you mind explaining me the first number next to the letter like the 3 in E39 again ?

    I don't really get it ^-^'

    Thank you :)

  • it has to do with the saturation of the color, a high number means a more gray color, and a low number means more... eh... colorful color?

  • ah okay thank you very much :)

  • hi i wanted to know what you use to protect your art from the sunlight etc,

  • for a set of 12 the are $106,- :(

note ik dutch the are expensive here

  • Lol, dat is belachelijk duur.

Ik heb een vrouw op marktplaats gevonden waarbij ik 20 stiften voor 62,50 euro kan bestellen, inclusief bestelkosten. x3

  • can you tell me how much the 72 sets are?

  • Uhm, I can't order sets, I have to pic the colours myself and then she'll order them for me. :3

  • They are around $300. Very expensive

  • why are they so exspensive

  • Because they last a long, long time and they are re-fillable. And they also blend, which is amazing, as far as markers go.

  • Because they are a very well made marker, they last a long time and they work really well.

  • well for the sketch its about 275 and for ciaos its 216

  • that rocks i want to color like you=)

  • What kind of Copic are you using? and how did you 'do' th picture (I mean did you use a stamp or just draw or there r other ways?

  • i'm really glad you made this, i have been having trouble blending my copics when shading and i thought it was because i lacked the right colors.

  • really really intresting tutorial.

I never imagined that something like this is possible ^^

  • what u do with colourless blender?

  • i wonder if this technique would work with prismas

  • PLZ HELP!!!!!!!! which copic marker are you useing??? sketch or original and whit is better plz help beacuze i ordered sketch and is sketch the one you are useing???

  • great tip. tnx. but theres no available copic in our country anymore. they only have KURECOLOR. they said its just the same. is it really the same? is it same in effect as the copic markers? pls advise.

  • I just bought some COPICs a few days ago. I get my art supplies from Dick Blick's. If you Live in NY it on 1-5 Bond St. or a bout a block up past the Bleeker st. stop on the 6 train.

  • how much are they at blicks? i have a blicks near me in boston but ive never bothered looking around inside

  • i loked at my local blicks and they don't have it and they dont have it at Michael's either but it was at my neighborhood art storeeee

  • ohh

  • usually they're like 3-5 bucks per marker!!

  • ya i found that there about 6

like 50 cents more than prismas

  • Mine were 7.50 each!

  • wow @_@

  • Ill say, and i lost one x.x
