i believe u Hubert, only idiot would lie about this now, and u r not. Life is busy+changeable, and time flies, so it's possible 4 someone (like u) to tell the truth after a decade. You are lying. The AdWords and AdSense Modell was invented after/in 2000.

The model was to provide relevent ads. There were two ways at the time: one is search engine, the other is any webpage (doubleclick did that.). You have to wait your user base to build up before rolling out the service.

The concept of serving relevant ads was there in 1997. Though we did not coin any phrase.

To the best of my knowledge, his claims about being a founder of Google, coming up with the name and/or the business plan etc, are completely unfounded in reality. I am sure I would have noticed a third founder, if one existed, since I was working closely with Larry and Sergey at Stanford the time.

I respect Prof. Motwani; he is a wonderful teacher.

When the video is posted last year, I did not tell Prof. Motwani because I thought it was between Larry, Sergey, and me. However, it is not respectful, I should have told him. My fault.

In 1997 email communication, he was not a mail recipient between Larry, Sergey, and me.

I do recall receiving a couple of emails from Hubert Chang in 1997 or 1998. Its been such a long time that I dont have any recollection of their contents but its probable I shared those emails with Larry and Sergey. In any case, by that time the basic idea of PageRank was already in place and there was a clear intent of building a company around this. I am pretty certain that none of the three of us actually met with Hubert Chang during that time period

It's a mixed bag... what is his intention putting this up on youtube and what do the founders say about this? If he's trying to capitalize on the founding ideas... well it seems he did nothing to contribute to Google's success. Hopefully he's just trying to let out some old demons that have been haunting him, than try to soak Google for some cash. I would be disappointed if the founders denied it and it was later found to be true. Ditto playing semantics.

Putting the name on the paper would be a commitment to the project. There is no way you could finish a Ph.D. while doing that project. At least, that is my feeling. Neither of them have finished their Ph.D.

Larry and Sergey made a sacrifice for Google by putting their Ph.D on hold. He was is the same position to do so. Where they suppose to to wait around until he finished his Ph.D? If that was the case we wouldn't have Google today as it is. Alledgedly, he even said he opted out of putting his name on the paper. And now he's coming out with this video 10 years later. I don't think Hubert Chang has much of any case at all.

Why am I not surprised? You did the hard part of the job and they took all the credits. If you are a genius to create the "Google" it doesn't necesserelly means you have the ability to manage it, hit the "market place", "sell" your product and make a fortune. You done your job well and your cooperates should have done their job. But where are they?
