"It wasn't cliche back then", lol. Right on. I hate it when people refer to old school RPG's as "cliche". It doesn't work that way. The only reason they're cliche is because all of the newer ones copy them, hoping to duplicate their success.
I think modern Jrpgs and quite a few Western Rpgs have alot more to learn from there old school fore fathers, because too many of these newer rpgs have become to much about style and or story and very little substance and damn easy to boot.
Dunno if this with the boring parts was meant sarcastic, but yeah, the story makes games slightly more interesting. There wouldn't be any sense in slaying monsters and doing all those things if it wasn't going to explained WHY you have to do it.
i was being serious, i walked though all 3 worlds with a fine tooth comb trying to find secret stuff and passage ways. When i got stuck in the dungeons or at the part of the game that i never passed (couldnt use the nuts) i found it very boring and frustrating as would anyone.
Tho is is one of my top 10 fav games of all time and was an industry trendsetter for RPG's for many yrs after this.
This game reminds me of sunflower seeds...MANY sunflower seeds lol.

Well, I do think that the Story is very important for a RPG. It contributes to the fun of playing that game.

Agreeed, a great story line gives purpose to the player and motivates them to keep moving forward, especially the boring parts.
