I adore this series but somehow I didn't find this episode amazing. i think i was expecting more for the one before the final. But OMG next weeks looks really good! The final. Arthur dead, nimueh-excitement overload!
I have to admit this was a TERRIBLE episode...i did not enjoy it at all thought it was predictable, I normally love it...maybe not enough Arthur in it hahaha
The next episode loooks amazing, well it should be considering its a finale but i hope its not a cliff hanger...OH I DON'T WANT IT TO END!
i thought morgana was evil to, mordred is athers son...i think..I AM SO CONFUSED! oh well, i'll just watch what the BBC do. because colin, i love you and have only just realised. YAY FOR MERLIN!
for those who go on about not liking it , DONT WATCH IT , simple really, i like it,and i know about history as well, Merlin is light hearted Saturday early evening entertainment,
Ohh right. If its so awful then why is it one of the highest ratest shows on a saturday night? And why does everyone apart from you and some mad individiuals seem to think its a great show and they love it? I think maybe you need to get a life and stop commenting on things you dont like, attempting to get other people to not watch it. Now thats just sad.
Because we are turning into a nation pandering to an audience of brain-stem dead educational underachievers, mired in celebrity culture and reality shows, who wouldn't know what good drama was if it leapt up and bit their noses off.
And how dare you say I should not express my views! It is you who needs to get a life - especially as you seem to be a person who regards Jordan as as a suitable role model! Now that is indescribably sad...
And I cited my "educational attainments" since you put me in the category of "brain-stem dead educational underachievers, mired in celebrity culture and reality shows." That I take offense to.
But thanks for calling me a sadist. You're the first. Way to go.
I'm a Medieval Studies major, I have a BA in History, and I love this show. Oh, and by the way, Arthurian legend is just that... LEGEND. Historical accuracy from legend? Most of it is guesswork anyway. We can make hypotheses based on what information we have.
Your ridiculous opinion has been noted, and duly forgotten.
No. There is evidence that Arthurian legend was based on fact - around a British noble who was instrumental in halting the Anglo-Saxon incursions. But that's besides the point. The point I am making is that if you choose a supposed period in which to set your 'legend' - at least make things look authentic.
And having to justify watching this drivel by mentioning your educational attainments put the sadometer way off the scale.
Are you telling me that Arthur may have been real? Authors over the years have written legends based on real people? No way! They can do that? Wow, the mind boggles.
There is also evidence that there was not one "Merlin," but that Geoffrey of Monmouth based it on several accounts from both 5th and 6th century legends.
You want an authentic look? Well, no one would have teeth and everyone would be dirty and smell and itch from lice. Wow, that sounds like fun to watch.
I think it's a generational thing. I think. Harry Hill and I can both remember the great historical series of BBC's heyday - proper, authentic-looking costumes (not the bleedin' leather bomber jacket and riding boots that Arthur was wearing the other night!), and an attempt at contemporary speech (or, at least, not modern speech idioms) and great acting performances.
I'm afraid I just have higher expectations of historical drama.
.. and Arthur indeed is a semi-mythical figure himself. But that doesn't mean that a show set in a supposed specific historical period should take such liberties as putting the lead hunk in a leather bomber jacket and tight trousers (not hose), cowboy boots, and have him saying "Hey, how's it going mate" etc etc.
At one point, I was quite expecting Arthur to respond to one of Merlin's jibes with."You dissin' me, blood?" or "Amma bovva'd?"
Oh no! They can't kill Uther, he's been my favourite character throughout the series. Sure he's a tyrant and seriously misguided and a bit heavy handed with the executions..he's a great character to have in the series. Arthur is still FAR too young to rule Camelot and he has so much to learn about being a King. I seriously hope Uther isn't killed, the show would be shooting its plots in the foot. They need a goody baddy!
i always have to watch these trailers again to get whats going on lol. it looks good Morganas going evil.. This weeks episode was good too. Can't wait to see the finaly.

How do you know it's going to be a two parter? I thought "The Labyrinth of Gedref" would be part one of two, since both that and this episode were to be announced, but To Kill the King and The End is Near don't really sound related.
However it will definitely be a multi-season TV series. Why they call seasons "series" over here I don't understand.
Really disappointed that Uther didn't die.

Morgana is the Evil one in the Legend right?
And Mordred is her son right?
But I think I read somewhere that Mordred was Arthurs half brother??? and Morgana was also Arthurs half sister???
I mean there are loads of Versions out there...
And what about the Lady of the Lake?
Where's she?
Or was she Nimueh? Isnt the Lady of the Lake supposed to be Good?
Ok Im confused...
thornewood9 3 years ago
It depends on which legend you're referring to. There are lots of versions.
The Lady of the Lake may not appear this first series. She's only supposed to show up to give Arthur Excalibur.
Don't worry too much about which legend it's based on, just enjoy it in its own right. "Merlin" is creating its own history.

I watched it for the first time the other night and ... it was, and I can't find any other term to describe it...truly, truly, AWFUL!
It was Hollyoaks in period costume. Aimed at an audience which has learned most of its history from scratch cards and "The Weakest Link".
Don't watch it folks.

in what way is it "Cheap" With all the special effects and there being a 13 episode series, i'd say that'd be pretty expensinve for tv show

Because some series can run to six episodes, with the possibility of a second series occurring in the same year, hence 'series'.
