Thank you kindly for posting this, very useful demo. Now myself and my fellow audio chaps have changed the Chinese valves on all our valve gear (Art/TL audio) to Russian Tung-sols and its improved it x3 times over ! result.
I have 2 of these with the VU meters and I upgraded to the Tung-Sol tubes. I put one on each output of my weak Roland keyboard and it REALLY helped alot. I've been curious about trying 12AT7s in these though.
Now Im listening with 720p...and...what a waste of time, the same and more dramatic tone differences can be achieved with a good EQ, maximixer or saturator...
But.. The main concern, is to get straight from preamp good sound to do the small as possible changes with eq. The better sound you get from preamp, the more you can get from it on mix/mastering.
@aczech12 Yeah I know, but that would be in the ideal situation, with an amazing singer / performer and maybe very expensive instruments.
With common amateur/semi pro singers and mid price gear its not that relevant, anyway, I don't thing there is something like a bad sound in decent moder consumer/pro audio interfaces.
@carlosaglez1 I have ART TUBE MP Studio and yesterday replaced chineese original tube with Tung Sol.. On vocals and mic MXL 2003a, the difference is huge.. Vocals have more air/low frequencies and they sound more real.
@aczech12 Im not denying your perspective and subjectiveness, of course Chinese stuff tend to be cheap and despised (although many western brands are manufactured there) .
I think Im deaf, listening this youtube video 480p I cannot really find an important difference, I better keep using a good linear vst EQ and tube modeling plugin
I would like to modify mine sometime and make another comparison video. I would like to make it less dark sounding if possible. I'm coming to the conclusion that the Tube MP sounds best when used on only certain elements of the mix for color variety and not on everything. I think that if you use it on everything its too colored and the color isn't quality enough to dominate the entire mix. I can't speak for the other ART tube preamps though; haven't tried them.
I rolled some tubes in it and the new TungSol was the quietest. Also dumping the Tl072 IC's for Burr Brown OPA2134's makes the noise floor even lower. Mine is the Studio MP V3 getting the VU meter out was a pain for the ic swap but doable. Use ic sockets.
? what you recomend me for an art pro channel i need 3 tubes...tell me who are the best for voice recording...i need silky and clear voices..very dynamic...to feel it in the mix...reply me
I am sorry. I don't know the answers to your questions. I've never used an ART Pro Channel. In my tests the Tung-Sol 12ax7 was the only modern tube that sounded musical.
The only place to find a reasonable priced vintage tube like the GE 5751 in on Ebay but make sure the seller offers a guarantee because some of these vintage tube sellers will sell bad tubes. For new tubes I used to use TubeDepot but no longer. The thing to look out for with them is that they will sometimes send you a defective tube because they obviously do not check them and expect YOU to pay for return shipping. Its only a couple of bucks but its TOTALLY WRONG and its a pain in the butt.
i liked the ge one the most

The GE 5751 hands down! Did you ever try any Sylvania vintage, Tung Sol or Mullard reissue?

in the video there is no GE 5751? I think the Motu lable no tube (last test) was a mistake and should have been labled the GE 5751. Right? Thanks!

I have to agree the GE was the clear winner but i didnt like the sound of the harmonix at all.

@ToneTaster I agree. I loaded my VLA Pro with the Tung-Sols and it really helped.
