They don't blow up M1's. After a quick web search, you'll find that no Abrams have ever been destroyed in combat. A couple have been disabled, but not one has ever been destroyed.

Consider that for a tank that is about 30 years old, it is still capable of going toe-to-toe with MBT's designed in the last decade.
You might say: 'Well, there have been Abrams tanks destroyed by IEDs, I've seen them...'
The IEDs used to destroy an Abrams are about 50-200+ pounds of explosives... That will destroy most anything not explicitely designed to take such large blasts to it's weakest points...
Leopard 2 hasn't been battle-tested, the Abrams has and has shown to be a good tank. Besides that, no tank is going to be effective without infantry and air support...better to look at a tank in a combined arms situation. Oh and besides THAT, germany's military is fucked forever. The U.S. has a lot of good technology and huge numbers. Knowing the gun-ho method of US fighting, I doubt a large heat signature is a big deal to us.

2 damaged and put out of combat, 1 destroyed. The one destroyed was in an friendly fire incident, 1 of the damaged was hit by 14 RPGs and a MiLAN antitank missle it was back in action within 6hrs. Another Challenger got hit with ~70RPGs and remained combat effective.

It's very possible for tank to take multiple RPG hits and continue moving. If it was hit by more powerful RPG-29 for instance, it wouldn't rolling on for sure.
Russian T-80's in Cechenya took approx 7 RPG hits before being disabled/destroyed.
And, in Desert storm ~20 Abrams tanks were lost (most due to enemy fire), with at least 8 being completely destroyed with some or all crew KIA. Some (few) were repaired, but most of them were damaged beyond repair. Again, that was very well covered up...
@brox114 For a tank from the '80's the Abrams still dominates the battlefield... That's 2-3 decades for new weapons to be designed, and yet almost all Abrams kills are from friendly fire... Wierd... And the rest are from lucky hits, massive amounts of explosives, mobility kills (The tracks or engine being disabled, or just running out of fuel...) with infantry surrounding the tank, ripping the hatch(es) open and chucking grenades in...
Very few of destroyed Abrams tanks were the result of friendly fire; most of them were taken out by enemies - but western media in agreement with USA goverment constantly dinies that and hides the real truth. Also Russians keep improving their tanks as well fitting them with new electronics and new armor.
Big majority of destroyed M1's by RPG were results of the skilled soldiers rather than the lucky hits. See for yourself places where M1's were hit by RPG's...

In reality, it's far from best MBT. It's good, but only that. More than 100 abrams tanks have been destroyed in combat mostly by enemies, very few by friendly fire. Usa and western media are constantly lying and twisting the truth. Quite a few photos of destroyed abrams tanks by Iraqi's were removed from web.
Heck, I found not so long ago on Live Leak M1A2 Abrams being destroyed by RPG-29 (all 4 crewman KIA), but someone has removed this video. Weird...
That was one lucky hit... Most reports of non friendly-fire losses are from either massive IED's (Say 200 lbs of explosives) detonating under the tank, or from tanks having their tracks hit, and then being overwhelmed by infantry who can then lob grenades in...
It can't be lucky shot - I don't think that unexperiencded man would fire RPG-29 at tank (Iraqi's have very few RPG-29's, so those they have cannot be carried and fired by rookie - it just doesn't make sense)... So, I would say well experienced soldeir achieved that hit.
Btw, the hit was achieved at the place between turret and glacis, Abrams catched catastrophic fire just seconds after.
IED usually kills crew instantly or cause them very serious injuries...

A2 is a upgrade version for selected M1 tanks. It has improved digital electronic systems and operating computers. With improved communications abd target viewing systems.
@fox100cool The A2 I think has better armor, and maybe some upgrades to the fire control systems. It still doesn't have an autoloader, which is a good thing though, because it limits the firing speed. Some trained loaders can load them in 3 seconds or less if they got the skills.

It will definitely not penetrate the frontal armor that's for sure. The back armor will probably be blown to hell if a few tigers shoot directly at it with APCR arounds.

@gnrisinmyblood1 i was using the Gulf War as an example. T55s and T72s were being destroyed far before they were getting in range (no modern FLIR). Also, there is no doubt chobham armor is vastly superior to any armor type developed before it (thanks England!). Add that to modern TUSK modifications, I think the M1 could take hits a little better than people think it would.
Even if it can't take take five of the Soviet-Era tanks, WW2 tanks would not be able to penetrate the armor.

lmfao people u no that the m1a2 ahbrams tank has armor up to 24 inches of pure steel in some places? and it has checblock armor and u do u no this tank is ran by a jet engine allowing it to travel up to 50mph? this tank can get 1 5in shell down range every 3 seconds.. this tank can keep going 50mpe bcuz of its aiming system sorry people who say other tanks could destroy this one u should learn ur facts bfore u say stuff like that.. start watching the military channel abhrams tank is #1

@Super600cc FYI, these "lol" tanks, are THE best tanks, there armor is the best of the best, and if the Type-99MK was "so good" it would be in a top 10 tank show, and guess what IT WASNT. As i said before, the M1A2's armor is the best of the best, one story is that a tank crew was hit by a RPG and they just walked away from the blast NO INJURIES, the the Type-99MK, a RPG will KILL the crew, so next time u comment about a tank, u should know things about tanks:)

@MrTragiiKz Yeah, the tank's so good you lost ~80 tanks in the Gulf war. One tank crew drowned in their tank after a bridge collapsed
Now compare that to the Challenger 2:
2 damaged and put out of combat, 1 destroyed. The one destroyed was in an friendly fire incident, 1 of the damaged was hit by 14 RPGs and a MiLAN antitank missle it was back in action within 6hrs. Another Challenger got hit with ~70RPGs and remained combat effective.

@libertateaaa ...Wow, just because that's a weak(ish) spot on the Abrams, that doesn't mean it isn't common to EVERY tank used in the last 50 years. A single .50 cal round at just the right angle can halt a tank in it tracks with a destroyed engine...

well i would be in one of this thanks over a leopard since its armor is better. And pepole hwo think the leo2a6 has a beter gun:S, the American DU Sabots is still more powerful, the us have swiched to l55 guns if the DU rod behaved propably in flight.
Still when the m1 gets the new engine (-33%fuelusage) and firecontrol systems (35mm error at 7km).
and probaly the iron fist active armor system. and a m1 with the DU Plates is impoible to disable with Shaped charces from the front

It's very possible for tank to take multiple RPG hits and continue moving. If it was hit by more powerful RPG-29 for instance, it wouldn't rolling on for sure.
Russian T-80's in Cechenya took approx 7 RPG hits before being disabled/destroyed.
And, in Desert storm ~20 Abrams tanks were lost (most due to enemy fire), with at least 8 being completely destroyed with some or all crew KIA. Some (few) were repaired, but most of them were damaged beyond repair. Again, that was very well covered up...

@brox114 For a tank from the '80's the Abrams still dominates the battlefield... That's 2-3 decades for new weapons to be designed, and yet almost all Abrams kills are from friendly fire... Wierd... And the rest are from lucky hits, massive amounts of explosives, mobility kills (The tracks or engine being disabled, or just running out of fuel...) with infantry surrounding the tank, ripping the hatch(es) open and chucking grenades in...

Very few of destroyed Abrams tanks were the result of friendly fire; most of them were taken out by enemies - but western media in agreement with USA goverment constantly dinies that and hides the real truth. Also Russians keep improving their tanks as well fitting them with new electronics and new armor.
Big majority of destroyed M1's by RPG were results of the skilled soldiers rather than the lucky hits. See for yourself places where M1's were hit by RPG's...

M1 Abrams has outstanding marketing.
In reality, it's far from best MBT. It's good, but only that. More than 100 abrams tanks have been destroyed in combat mostly by enemies, very few by friendly fire. Usa and western media are constantly lying and twisting the truth. Quite a few photos of destroyed abrams tanks by Iraqi's were removed from web.
Heck, I found not so long ago on Live Leak M1A2 Abrams being destroyed by RPG-29 (all 4 crewman KIA), but someone has removed this video. Weird...

That was one lucky hit... Most reports of non friendly-fire losses are from either massive IED's (Say 200 lbs of explosives) detonating under the tank, or from tanks having their tracks hit, and then being overwhelmed by infantry who can then lob grenades in...

It can't be lucky shot - I don't think that unexperiencded man would fire RPG-29 at tank (Iraqi's have very few RPG-29's, so those they have cannot be carried and fired by rookie - it just doesn't make sense)... So, I would say well experienced soldeir achieved that hit.
Btw, the hit was achieved at the place between turret and glacis, Abrams catched catastrophic fire just seconds after.
IED usually kills crew instantly or cause them very serious injuries...

@brox114 Thats one instance. I also heard that an Abrams once took three hits from an RPG and kept on rolling. Wierd... In Desert Storm, not a single Abrams was lost to enemy fire. The few that were lost were due to friendly fire. A few hundred Abrams once took out thousands of T-62 and T-72 tanks also in Desert Storm. And you say that it is just an average tank? What the hell are you smoking?

the average life insurance plane for an american soldier is $250,000.
250k x 4 = 1 mill.
if a m1 was to lose all its crew in an explosion it would cost the us government $1.
1 crew for every year for 30 years is $30,000,000.
So the US army is technically making profit from an m1.

@fox100cool The A2 I think has better armor, and maybe some upgrades to the fire control systems. It still doesn't have an autoloader, which is a good thing though, because it limits the firing speed. Some trained loaders can load them in 3 seconds or less if they got the skills.

@gnrisinmyblood1 Depends on how the 5 king tigers are divided on the battlefield. I'm not sure if the 88mm kwk high velocity cannon can pierce the side of the tank. It will definitely not penetrate the frontal armor that's for sure. The back armor will probably be blown to hell if a few tigers shoot directly at it with APCR arounds.

@gnrisinmyblood1 i was using the Gulf War as an example. T55s and T72s were being destroyed far before they were getting in range (no modern FLIR). Also, there is no doubt chobham armor is vastly superior to any armor type developed before it (thanks England!). Add that to modern TUSK modifications, I think the M1 could take hits a little better than people think it would.
Even if it can't take take five of the Soviet-Era tanks, WW2 tanks would not be able to penetrate the armor.
