You nuts really hate Hogan. So he botched a move. So did every other wrestler. And from what I have read, Hogan has never been bashed by his fellow wrestlers for how he worked in the ring. They all say he was easy to work with, hit nice and soft (rather than stiffing the shit out of them), and as far as I know, Hulk never injured anyone. Plus he also made his opponents a shit ton of money. But all you marks that think you're inside the business know better. Sure.
Martel was damn good in ring-performer and played a very good cocky heel role. I remember him as part of Strike Force with Tito Santana, and then after he turned on him as "the Model" Rick Martel. One of the more underrated workers/talkers in the industry from back in the late 80s early 90's.
i'm pretty sure the object of the game is to not legitmately decapitate the guy you're working with...with that said it wasn't that big of a deal and that's why they say it's wrestling, not ballet..because every once in a while "shit happens" in the heat of the moment.
@AnimalLover1977 He didn't catch Martel flush enough to give him the leverage to flip from the rope. In fact if you see how Martel is holding his face; he felt on his cheek. It's supposed to have arm directed to his upper chest/neck area.
Could have been a LOT worse...the plan was for him to go to the outside. A lot of times the wrestler who is clotheslining doesn't put enough force into it and the other guy has to do a straight backflip to get out of the ring the way we're used to seeing it...the point is Martel still got out of the ring, yes through the middle rope but it wasn't a battle royal or royal rumble so who cares...
I vote this NOT a botch. Thumbs up if you agree...
It's amazing that you assholes are ripping Hulk Hogan, Hogan actually tried to save Martel's career in the WWF by convincing Vince to get Tom Zenk a house so that he wouldn't break up the Can-Am Connection. And the only reason Martel had a job in WCW was because he called Hogan up personally and Hogan took care of him and got him a job and he got a TV title run from there.
@Lannis31 Yeah I don't like people bashing on Hogan where it's truly unwarranted. What did Hulk ever do to screw over Martel? It's funny, it really seems like 80% of the Hogan bashing is coming from know-nothing marks rather than actual wrestlers.
If you listen closely, you can hear Hogan tell him go over, but then he lands the clothesline to low and doesnt use him momentum to push down the top rope and push the model over Bad botch by Hogan Martel is too good to be in there with a slow piece of crap!
1990/91 was when martel was at his best in the wwf. shame he never got to wear a title as a singles wrestler, he was great. hogan blows big time, i always hated hulk (the ultimate good guy) hogan. he couldn't wrestle for shit!
yeah Hogan screwed that up, it was poorly planned out because with Martel coming off the ropes with momentum, he never could of flipped over the top rope backwards...he should have done something like a kick to the gut to stop him in place against the ropes, then clothesline over...
@TheManiacOnWheelsUSA he does his clotheslines like a punch. he hits them then pulls it back but what you meant to do is let your arm fall into the opponent.
This is one of the most common botches.

@peterp21
if you bashed Hogan or said anything about his declining hair you would receive a call from Vince the next day saying: "YOU'RE FIRED!!!!!"

I think the spot worked well. Martel might not have been positioned correctly though.

I'd leave too after that. Why wrestle with Hogan if he's that sloppy? Good choice, Rick.. good choice.

Hogan had to rush forward nail the clothesline and push down on the top rope for it to be sold correctly.
