Scientific drilling offers for sure many challenges, in terms of discoveries, studies but also exposing the team to a different way of working and achieving competences.

During 2007 the Chikyu was doing primarily test drills for her primary mission.

She is designed to the depth of 7000meters through the crust to the mantel.

The "mud" that she collects is analyzed and studied to further our knowledge of everything from geological formations to earth history and dynamics..... the list goes on.

yep! they have to make lots of dives with new stuff in the same hole, meaning they have to lift and drop stuff in the hole. how they target the same hole is extraordinary
