I've seen Jon Hiseman playing with acoustic jazz musicians - playing a small kit (for him!) with a single bass drum, mostly playing brushes. He was still mind blowingly impressive and did an amazing solo. I've probably seen him live more often than any other drummer - and he never fails to impress. Really hard to understand why he doesn't have a larger profile, especially among drummers.
Jon used to blow me away in the 60/70s but wow, he's still an active and awesome drummer...... no idea why he's so little known for such an expert in his field
most drummers slow down at old age, they just can't move as fast, but what he shows is that if you keep good form your not impeded at all, if anyhting the experience makes you even better! He and Bill Bruford have proven that
OH mein Gott! Gänsehaut! Wie 1971 in Düsseldorf mit Colosseum oder in den 90ern mit Barbara Thompson in Trier. Da sitzt jeder winzigste Schlag, das Schlagzeug singt, schwingt und rollt. Herrlich! Mehr!
Jon Hiseman was always brilliant, always will be, a god amongst drummers. Up there with likes of Bill Bruford and Billy Cobham. All superb drummers :)
Hiseman was one of the grandeur of drummers from the 70's. His drums had an epic sound beyond the technicality of it. Dark Side Of The Moog is a perfect example. I like Bruford, Palmer, Peart etc but none of them ever had an epic rhythm like the one i heard in Dark Side Of The Moog
altro passo la musica anni 70 e loro con altre band hanno fatto la storia vedendoli nei video mi ha ricordato i concerti visti a giro per l'europa. Antonio '57
My father introduced me to Jon Hiseman years when I was just getting started on drums. He IS still one of the very few prog/fusion drummers that I can stand to listen soloing for hours! He makes Music!
I saw Colosseum in 1970 at the Plumpton Festival, where I heard the Time Machine. It's almost unchanged. John Hiseman is really one of the Best and I hope he can read my little comment. I shall never forget their show in Plumpton even though they appeared before Deep Purple with their Black Night before it was published on 45rpm record. Bravo Colosseum, Bravissimo John Hiseman!
I first heard Jon Hiseman in 1969. I thought he was the best rock/Jazz drummer then and still think so now, and I have heard and seen some amazng drummers. His stamina and creativity are amazing!
You can see why they nickname him 'The Technician" - his technique is phenominal - and he was decades ahead of the Thomas Langs and Marco Minnemans who generate so much fuss today... Except Jon is a great musical drummer as well ;-)
I luv the look of his kit, I always think it a disappointment when drummers have a small kit! Of course they need to know how to bang away at it too, which Jon has no problems with!
By God! After all these years, still can't believe that Jon Hiseman is so overlooked! Leave alone as a great drummer, as a fusion drumming innovator! The english Billy Cobham! Still, this video is proof that instead of striving to continue ralling with the young lions, Jon continues to be highly musical. Thanks for this!
I totally agree with you; my comment only meant that since both he and Cobham are contemporaries, it's incredible still how few drummers know about his musicality and work when compared to Billy's, which are widely recognized. I love both guys' playing, but would keep Jon if I had to choose.
No offense taken, I only wanted to give the words a new spin hehe ... and I agree, you name two great drummers and pick the right one haha! Wow, now the drumming is taking over in my monitors again ... gotta listen. Stay healthy!
brilliant. I saw him live several times with colosseum, united jazz & rock ensemble and paraphernalia. his solos always brought tears to my eyes. best I've ever seen.
Far superior to Peart as a solist.

Fantastic as always. Saw him at the Plumpton Festival in 1970. He played the Time Machine for 15 minutes. I can still the hear the beat!

amazing.
ich war am freitag bei einem konzert von colosseum. es war unglaublich und sein solo war gigangtisch, 10 mal besser als das hier.
außerdem hat er mir noch seine bespielten stöcke geschenkt, die eigentlich 30€kosteten,
wirklich freundlicher kerl

hello ... it's me again! : )
Gotta listen some more to this. If there was a black belt in drumming, Jon Hiseman would rank as 10th dan!

Totally agree, Peart has been doing the same exact things for yrs.
Very overrated, undesrving of so much adoration by the masses at the sacrifice of the Jon Hiseman's of the world.
Hey, we know better.

I'm a huge fan of Jon Hiseman.
The thing that has always impressedme about his drum solos are they all don't sound the same.
Whether it be "The Time Machine" by Colosseum from 1969 to his recent various excursions.
They're always different/unique.
He's "the man".

Very appealing solo. He plays around the groove. Sucks that I just found out about him.
