Or as Harry Browne put it, "The government is good at one thing...it knows how to break your legs, and then hand you a crutch and say 'see if it weren't for the government you wouldn't be able to walk.'"
Imagine the irony here. In a political effort to make themselves appear helpful to minorities the republicans push for bad loans that do nothing more than make republicans richer and push stuggling people further into the ground. So now they can cry we tried to help minorities with bad policies on our part but then they are the cause of this problem...
That Republican Strategist is all wrong. The deregulation did happen under Clinton, but Congress was Republican at the time. They passed it, and some blame could go to Clinton for not vetoing it, but you have to remember that this was in 1999, there was an election going on, and he really wasn't taken seriously due to the impeachment.
Both sides are dirty in this. That's why we should vote for a third party this year. Can anyone honestly say that these problems won't happen again? I think it's time for real change in the whole American political universe. There are better options for America in the third parties and not the Republicrats.
It is important that the fat cats get their golden parachutes. It is critical that they remain complicit with the rip-off of the masses. They will be agreeable if they know they'll get their pay-off, regardless. This essentially is the purchase of the scum needed to run the rip-off system we call the financial markets. Perhaps it is not surprising that anyone, with any decency left, calls Paulson out when he says "Gimmee cash fast and trust me". Yeh, right.
"Why oh why did we put those minority proles in charge of our financial system? Did you know that the executive officer of the SEC is an illegal immigrant? Thanks a lot Demo-commies!"
The neoGOP bunglers are not only incompetent but delusional. It's time for them to go back to church and let the grownups get things working again.
so is this Greg guy blaming minorities for the crisis? maybe it's the unscrupulous owners that thought of only making a major profit rather than running a successful business. just my thought. besides this was bound to happen regardless, because capitalism is a flawed system that will turn on itself.
Actually the impetus for this fiasco was the repeal of the post depression banking acts which paved the way for the instruments that caused the melt down. It wasn't interference that caused this ... it was ill advised lending practices spurred on by lack of regulation and oversight. boiled down the "Free Market" sold the rope that hanged itself.
well yeah, i do agree, but i guess the point i'm trying to make is that these problems are kind of expected because, well let's face it, the best example of capitalism is organized crime. and what has happened with this situation is a crime, and a well organized one too.
I can't believe "minority lending" is a term that can be so easily used. If they said "non-white" lending it would seem much more racist, but it's virtually the same thing.
Carter and Clinton pressured their Attorney Generals into forcing these unsound lending practices. Obama got over 100,000 from Fannie Mae--I suppose this is also Bush's fault.
The dems have had their 2 years and done nothing.
McCain at least tried to get this mess changed back in 2005. No one listened and a 1 trillion spending spree by Obama is not gonna help one bit.
Blame the poor! They're the people actually pulling the strings. Let other countries blame the rich and powerful for America's financial meltdown. Americans, in their infinite wisdom, know that it's the poor who run the show in the United States. That's what we mean by American exceptionalism-- a Republic for the poor and by the poor.
What the hell does race and status have to do with this mess ? Plus how do they explain all these million dollar home foreclosures that are not owned by minorities ? Please forgive people for not knowing many years ahead that their homes would be foreclosed on due to their job outsourcing and being such an economic crisis they could not find another job and pay their mortgage. This is a bunch of bullshit. Fox should have been shut down a long time ago.
Wait, did I just hear you say deregulate Wall street? Hah! It's actually a result of them over regulating wall street. The housing bubble is a result of some dismantle rules, but the root of the problem is we're not a free market because we have a controlled money supply. Artifial low intrest rates and inflation is the cause. The real reason for the housing bubble is overprice property due to interst rates. More money the banks have, the more they lent. Same with the tech bubble and any other 1
Yeah blame the po' folks...for wanting to get a little taste of this so called American Dream that is continually crammed down the collective throat as the way and the truth and the light...well the dream is over as John Lennon said ...and im sure we'll all be living in economically segregated "Default Ghettos" while the Paulson posse retire to Boca for a bit of Golf , and drink the blood of the tax payers.
when it comes down to it who ultimately approves the loans? not the goverment. it's the bank or loan institution that gives the approval. if people were givin loans that they could not afford who is to blame? again the bank or loan institution because they should be checking out any any prospective borrowers finances and credit. but of course deregulation and greed are also factors.and of course economic factors on variable rate mortgages. so lets blame carter, clinton and minorities...
Actually, flag burning would be good for the economy. Because then people would keep buying flags and it would stimulate the economy, and flags could be made right here in America.
everyone is speaking 1/2 truths. don't forget ACORN Greg. I say throw every one out of office. all of them. this is just political dung. there is no civility,it is just BLAH BLAH BLAH!
Let's say some homeless guy walks into my store and says, "I like that bed, why don't you loan me some money so I can get it. In fact, give me a couple extra grand. You'll be making money off the loan anyway." It would be my fault if I made that loan- I'd lose the money.
But the wealthy and "important" people in this country can expect huge privatized profits when times are good and socialized losses (on the backs of the people they royally fucked) when the shit hits the fan. Disgusting.
Google Roland Arnall, founder of Ameriquest/biggest GOP contributor.
All arrows point to Gramm in 99 to rollback regulations and firewalls put in place after the depression. Once they were gone, the schemesters found a great new way to make money.
Then, to make matters worse, the OCC the feds who are supposed to protect consumers) turned a blind eye to the banks activities, even keeping individual states from protecting consumers. The OCC was funded by the banks.
*Independent mortgage companies, which are not covered by CRA, made high-priced loans at more than twice the rate of the banks and thrifts.
So, in conclusion, Republicans are fucking liars. This is the most absurd argument ever. How come everytime there is a economic crisis, they find a way the blame minorities. This is damn near racist!
Personal responsibility isn't a one-way street! Wall Street the main culprits here! Not the government, not the CRA, and not poor people!
well they tried but got filibustered. And since they only have just over 50% but not more than two thirds of congress, they don't have enough votes to break the filibuster (actually it was a veto from bush but result is same)
In the senate Dems would only have a majority if you count joe lieberman as being a Dem, but on iraq issues he votes with the Rep. So the Reps have all the power to block anything the Dems try.
They voted to fund the war! Admit it. If they actually cared, they would have voted not to fund it. But they did. There were plenty of Democrats who voted to fund the war.
By the way, there's no "filibuster" in the House. That's just in the Senate. So how come all the war spending bills passed so easily in the House?
Rick Davis eh. Wow. Well, what a coincidence. People can't pay back these loans now, so they were obviously good enough to get them...makes no sense.
If just a portion of the people in this country paid attention to how ridiculous this sounds, Republicans should never get in office because of this. The blame wasn't on democrats, because they're not 'running' the country. Gesh....

Banks are allowed to lend endless money - Money they don't even have!
And the Federal Reserve bank is allowed to print Americas money at interest - The FED Reserve bank is owned by private bankers (mostly from over seas)
Fannie & Freddie were leveraged 1:150
All major Wall Street Firms are leverage 1:25 to 1:30!
This was encouraged by the FED; and allowed by Congress! It makes Enron look like the Boy Scouts!
Gimme a break!
Get a second citizenship!
Time for to be "self reliant"!

when it comes down to it who ultimately approves the loans? not the goverment. it's the bank or loan institution that gives the approval. if people were givin loans that they could not afford who is to blame? again the bank or loan institution because they should be checking out any any prospective borrowers finances and credit. but of course deregulation and greed are also factors.and of course economic factors on variable rate mortgages. so lets blame carter, clinton and minorities...

Actually, flag burning would be good for the economy. Because then people would keep buying flags and it would stimulate the economy, and flags could be made right here in America.

The following are some facts that debunk Republicans lies:
*In late 2004, Bush severely weaken the CRA
*Roughly, One in four sub-prime loans were made by the institutions fully governed by CRA.
*Half of sub-prime loans came from those mortgage companies beyond the reach of CRA
*further 25 to 30 percent came from bank subsidiaries and affiliates
*The CRA went a quarter of a century without any problems until recently.
hollyhoodjoe123 3 years ago
*Independent mortgage companies, which are not covered by CRA, made high-priced loans at more than twice the rate of the banks and thrifts.
So, in conclusion, Republicans are fucking liars. This is the most absurd argument ever. How come everytime there is a economic crisis, they find a way the blame minorities. This is damn near racist!
Personal responsibility isn't a one-way street! Wall Street the main culprits here! Not the government, not the CRA, and not poor people!

Yeah, at least the Democrats brought the troops home after the 2006 elections.
...oops.
MooseOfReason 3 years ago 2
well they tried but got filibustered.
So the Reps have all the power to block anything the Dems try.
janusanus 3 years ago
They voted to fund the war! Admit it. If they actually cared, they would have voted not to fund it. But they did. There were plenty of Democrats who voted to fund the war.
By the way, there's no "filibuster" in the House. That's just in the Senate. So how come all the war spending bills passed so easily in the House?
MooseOfReason 3 years ago
Rick Davis eh. Wow. Well, what a coincidence. People can't pay back these loans now, so they were obviously good enough to get them...makes no sense.
If just a portion of the people in this country paid attention to how ridiculous this sounds, Republicans should never get in office because of this. The blame wasn't on democrats, because they're not 'running' the country. Gesh....
