At the time, the overall Eastern-dominated voting was very controversial. However, once all the heat had died down, at least its winner showed some justice. This is one of my favourite winners of the decade, a beautiful song with a superb performance. It broke all the stereotypes of a winning entry the decade had almost been force-feeding us and showed us that a good song and performance can still win, Eastern Europe or no. So, well done Serbia. Fantastic, I get goosebumps.

Well-said, and that very term "Eurovision quality" has always annoyed me. Not to sound snobbish, but people like us, who have followed the contest for more than one decade, know that there is no such thing as a "Eurovision song". Every musical style should be honoured - to varying success, of course. When people proclaim Turkey of 2003 the "best winner ever", I seriously can't believe my ears. How could they put THAT on Congratulations and not more substantial (and famous!) winners?
That said, I will defend this song. I try (and that's a big 'try') to not care about genres and 'typical winners' and all that and just appreciate the song. And that's the case with me and this song. In 07 I thought Molitva an ok song, not my fav, but I like it much more now. Yes it could be considered formulaic. The nature of ESC is that there will always be formulaic songs, some good, some middling & some downright bad. I have always said that Lordi's win was significant as a mold-breaker, it has opened up the prospects of more diverse & interesting songs. Unlike Lewis I think the last 2 years have produced some really good songs as a result of Lordi. If we look at the history of ESC there is really no one type or quality. songs have been as diverse as the cultures represented. Long may it reign whether I like them or not. Such is Eurovision!

You know, this is a nice enough song, but its appeal as a winner still baffles me somewhat. I am happy that Europe selected a winner that's just melody, hands down, with the only stage-gimmick being Maria walking between her backing singers. But why the whole of Europe went for it mystifies me a bit. Still a solid winner.

The final moment is amazing, huh? I didn't understand anything because I don't speak Serbo-Croatian but she transmitted much strength and feeling in the song. She really believed in what she was singing.
