Marr is good. And he was a great addition to modest mouse. Isaac brock was already a sick guitarist tho he's not incredibly skilled he plays some great shit. Most modest mouse fans think the addition of johnny marr has actually brought the band down a lil. I think he's been a great addition and fits well into the bands ever-changing style.

Agreed, Marr is great. If Marr was not on this song can you imagine how bad it would be? Marr is the master of guitar riffs and chord arpeggio's. Love his playing and his talent. Modest Mouse, well those hicks are pretty lousy. They are lucky that Marr is there to help out and make it good.
It's incredibly different from the Smiths, but it isn't crap. This was one of the first Modest Mouse songs I heard, and Marr playing makes it all the better.

If you don't know about Modest Mouse, look them up. They are the best band performing today (and imo of all time.) No one comes close to them on lyics, and they are really REALLY creative and an amazing band.

Modest Mouse is very underrated. They have a unique personality. For me, they were an acquired taste, but the more I listen to them, the more I love them.

I am a huge JM fan (I have two Rickenbackers solely due to my love for his early sound)....but this video is proof that the man still has it...and although I never was a fan of MM before.....with JM they become something amazing..... To be honest, the JM and the Healers never interested me.... but I thought "As long as he's enjoying himself...."
Marr always has THE LOOK. Whatever band he's playing with, he always looks like he was born to play with them. The hair, the shoes, the type of guitar, the way that he holds it. He's the most stylish guitarist on the planet.

There's a series of short interview clips on here with johnny talking about how he got together with MM. He seems to think it works. I've seen him with The The, The Healers, and a few times with MM......looking forward to Sunday in Fort Lauderdale and a week later in NYC.....too bad Johnny won't be there.

Some of Modest Mouse music is pretty original but the singer's style is hardly original. Go listen to Doolittle by the Pixies. Francis Black was doing the "barking" thing long before Isaac.
I agree... but Radiohead was influenced by the Smiths and Thom Yorke sounds nothing like Morrissey. Being influenced by an artist doesn't mean you sound exactly like them. That seems to be the case with some of Brock's vocals when compared to Black's. It's no big deal, but it's not original at all. You can't compare somethings originality to modern music, you have to compare it to what has already been done.

you're cutting corners now. Look at The Bends... triple guitar attack equals Marr's three guitars overdubbed. In Black Star, Greenwood throws a riff in right before the chorus over Yorke's chording similar to Marr's riff over chording on I Want the One I Can't Have.
They've listen The Smiths as one of their influences... I'm pretty sure that qualifies as a direct influence whether or not YOU can hear The Smiths in Radiohead's music

The definition of insanity is clearly Modest Mouse in concert. They are coming to Kingston in August .... can't wait! I'd say that 9 out of 10 people that hear Modest Mouse say to me "not my kind of music" I usually suggest they listen to Mylie. This video reminds me of Black Francis with Pixies. Cheers

Modest Mouse is very underrated. They have a unique personality. For me, they were an acquired taste, but the more I listen to them, the more I love them.

Oh man.... I am a huge JM fan (I have two Rickenbackers solely due to my love for his early sound)....but this video is proof that the man still has it...and although I never was a fan of MM before.....with JM they become something amazing..... To be honest, the JM and the Healers never interested me.... but I thought "As long as he's enjoying himself...."

Marr always has THE LOOK. Whatever band he's playing with, he always looks like he was born to play with them. The hair, the shoes, the type of guitar, the way that he holds it. He's the most stylish guitarist on the planet.

There's a series of short interview clips on here with johnny talking about how he got together with MM. He seems to think it works. I've seen him with The The, The Healers, and a few times with MM......looking forward to Sunday in Fort Lauderdale and a week later in NYC.....too bad Johnny won't be there.

What a great guitar player... shame about the singer, who sounds like a Bum they just found in the street. What a waste of a guitar talent. A great guitarist needs a great singer, simple. Mercury and May, Page and Plant, Ronson and Bowie and Morrissey and Marr. Sticking a great guitarist in your band, does not make you a worthy band. You can't polish a turd.

Some of Modest Mouse music is pretty original but the singer's style is hardly original. Go listen to Doolittle by the Pixies. Francis Black was doing the "barking" thing long before Isaac.

Brock is the whole package. A good, original guitarist; a surprisingly versatile singer, and a great songwriter and lyricist.

I agree... but Radiohead was influenced by the Smiths and Thom Yorke sounds nothing like Morrissey. Being influenced by an artist doesn't mean you sound exactly like them. That seems to be the case with some of Brock's vocals when compared to Black's. It's no big deal, but it's not original at all. You can't compare somethings originality to modern music, you have to compare it to what has already been done.

Ed O Brien began playing guitar because of The Smiths. They did a cover of Headmaster Ritual. They were definetely influenced by The Smiths.

wouldnt say that their music is directly influence by the smiths. they may play their instruments because of the simths etc, but you cant physically hear the smiths in radiohead's music

you're cutting corners now. Look at The Bends... triple guitar attack equals Marr's three guitars overdubbed. In Black Star, Greenwood throws a riff in right before the chorus over Yorke's chording similar to Marr's riff over chording on I Want the One I Can't Have.
They've listen The Smiths as one of their influences... I'm pretty sure that qualifies as a direct influence whether or not YOU can hear The Smiths in Radiohead's music
