  • It always makes me giggle when I see this legend playing with this mediocre band haha come on Johnny yae cannae be that hard up haha!!!

  • Heeeeeeeeere's Johnny!

  • Sorry, but I'm happy that Johnny Marr is out of modest mouse. Actually, I'm not sorry.

  • i love johnny

  • i miss the smiths with mr. marr.

  • Can anyone point me to any song post smiths that really good?

  • Do you have the full vid of this? I don't want vids that cut off :s

  • Fucking Flow

  • Shake it, Hotcakes! Johnny has the Midas touch!

  • I wish I was Johnny Marr.

  • what song is this

  • @jpasdi1999 tiny cities made of ashes

  • Why the hell is Johnny Marr playing on shit like this

  • LEGEND, that Marr. :-P

  • Skree Skraw

  • @thenewfella1994 He's a wanker. And the killers are pathetic. 'Oh yeah, you've taken a news headline written by a guy who killed himself. you must be so brooding and deep'. It's a bit desperate.

  • @thenewfella1994 couldn't agree more, you just went through my head, still i have to say jonny greenwood is also one of the most underrated guitarist.

  • what did I do?

  • lol looks like a fourth grader xD

  • @thenewfella1994 hahahaha heaven? no such thing, so good luck with that!

  • @0thekillers00 You might just be the most awful, inconsiderate, and pathetic person I've ever encountered. You should start showing some respect and decency. Obviously you're too arrogant to even respect johnny marr's talent and you probably listen to dubstep or some thumpy modern shite. So before you slag off someone as talented as Johnny Marr, make you sure you check the talent levels of the bands you like. Prick.

  • @FretLegendSmithy listen up ass wipe, one i dont listen to any of that dubstep shit and secoundly i listen to music because it has meaning and actual human emotion in it. i don't feel then need to say that johnn marr is a great guitarist and paint a fake picture in my mind that one day i might be like him. mycomment might have been rude and arrogant but at least i dont feel the need to idolize a guitarist in hopes that i might be like him in my pathetic self image of life

  • @0thekillers00 Listen man, half of that comment didn't even make sense. Before you go on about feeling emotion through music, listen to the smiths. Then come back and tell me that has no emotion. Go on. I'll see you in a bit.

  • @thenewfella1994 did u read my comment? i dont care about your shity bands, i dont like him and he's nothing i would listen to!

  • JOHNNY MARR SUCKS ASS!!!! damnit modest mouse was soo better off without him

  • ok i love johnny marr but am afraid to say this is bullshit compared to what he's capable of

  • Marr is amazing. Just an awesome person too.

Modest Mouse is covered by Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon) and got Johnny Marr to join their band. It makes no sense, they are merely an okay band.

  • Comment removed

  • why does everyone thing that their opinions matter. im guessing marr like the vibe of Modest Mouse, or he wouldnt be in it. same with the cribs.

  • Johnny Marr!! best man ever.

  • not a quiff in sight......................

  • cany anyone tell me what tune this is?

  • @elmington

    Tiny cities made of ashes

from Moon & Antarctica best MM album BY FAR.

  • modest mouse is terrible band the smiths morrissey is the best

  • DUDE JOHHNY IS TEARING THAT FUCKIN GUITAR OUT WHAT A JAM FUCK!

  • he looks really good for a forty-seven year old and his playing is fab as always

  • Please Johnny, remove yourself from this nothing band. You are WAY above this. Please.

  • @thegeek100 its the other way around. the cribs are nothing compared to modest mouse

  • @maromas02 You misunderstood...the cribs AND MM are both nothing bands....25 years after the fact, The Smiths are still more relevant than either of these nothing bands. When the Cribs and MM fold, both will forgotten within weeks

  • @thegeek100 dude johnny marr is just an addition to the smiths and mm dont get me worng hes good but did the smiths really need him? no, so why are you crying over him its no biggie. Marr is just any other typical one.

  • @maromas02 Either you're just dumb, or you're messing with me. I think you're just messin'. Peace

  • @thegeek100 marr wrote the songs together with morrissey for the smiths.

  • @maromas02 Marr wrote all the music of Marr. Morrissey wrote the lyrics.

  • johnny marr kicks ass and we all know modest mouse is the shit

  • Marr is the bombdingtastic! A great addition to a great band.

All the naysayers are just sad bearded hipsters who wouldn't know a truly talented musician if he hit them over the head with their bike fixie bike.

  • Johnny Marr is a fucking twerp.

Get your souless vanilla rock bullshit out of my MM, and take your skinny jeans with you.

I'm sure there are plenty of Smiths fans who want you back as much as I want you gone.

  • I personally love The Smiths AND Modest Mouse. Clearly Marr enjoys Modest Mouse, otherwise I doubt he'd be with them right now.

  • The SMITHS WERE WAY BETTER THAN THIS SHIT WHAT HAPPENTO YOU MARR YOU ARE WAY BETTER

  • Alot of people are talking crap on either MM or Johnny. MM fans vs. the Smiths fans lol

anyways, i love MM, and I don't know whats wrong with jonny marr

  • having Marr in here just makes you realize how much modest mouse sucks. Now they're backing up Johnny Marr lol. I didn't care what the singer was saying or anytthing he was just noise behind Marr.

    That's why Marr needs Morrissey.

  • Modest Mouse are emo? WTF? You need to learn a bit.

  • what's the name of this song!?

  • @paolapunkie

Cities Made of Ashes from Modest Mouse's album The Moon and Antarctica. One of the best albums of the last decade, check it out.

  • @paolapunkie tiny cities made of ashes, yo.

  • @paolapunkie tiny cities made of ashes

  • perfect1111111

  • marr is so cute ♥

  • Modest Mouse doesn't deserve to have Johnny Marr in their band. He's too good for that shit.

  • It's absolutely ridiculous to compare Marr to Jimi Hendrix. However, his bout with the Smiths will never be forgotten and some of the work he did with them places him at the gamet of some of the greatest guitarists.

  • fuck heaven, after seeing this i don't need 2 go.

  • everyone that thinks marr is bad is fuckin crazy

  • lol u would be retarded to compare him to jimi hendrix

  • dude, you're a faggot

  • Marr's butt wiggle = win.

  • Makes you want to get all up in that business.

  • Hell. Yes.

  • VEry CrazY!!

    great!

  • i think this guy is the jimi hendrix of our time

  • @geridg you gotta be high or on something to say that..not about him bein a burnout i believe u

  • maybe its the sound of the camera but this song sounds terrible

  • its flippping epic

  • I'm a fan of both the smiths and mm for a while now, and I've gotta say I agree with Jerf. You can't compare two completely different things.

    Just enjoy the music.

  • Tiny Cities made of ashes, sorry

  • The song is called "tiny city made of ashes"

  • you guys are breaking my balls

and im breaking my own because im taking the time to write this shit instead of enjoy this nice jam by my onesie

really though the smiths and modest mouse are two completely different things from two very different time periods. you cant compare. its like arguing that beethoven wrote better than the beatles.

and to say marr made the mouse poppy... have you ever heard the view? or 3rd planet? shiiit. poppy as hell man.

point=dig and quit arguing mindless :)

  • @jerfjuraf cartman.

  • @jerfjuraf: well your a bit of a prick.

  • @jerfjuraf 3rd planet cam before Marr. You are right about The view though.

  • @jerfjuraf I completely agree with you. However, if you ever call Modest Mouse "Poppy" again, I will fuck you up real bad...

  • @jerfjuraf

Beethoven obviously wrote better than the Beatles.

  • Marr is most definately an excellent player and probably the most gifted guitarist to come out the UK. As for turning MM poppy can you honestly tell me that this performance is mainstream and poppy? Marr was brought into MM to add an extra dimension to their sound he didn't ask to be in the band. One thing I definatley have to disagree with you on is that MM are a better band than The Smiths, MM aren't even in their league, they are good but not that good, either musically or lyrically

  • So this is pretty awesome, and first I've heard from Marr since the Smiths. What's the song?

  • Check out The The's Dusk album for some post-Smiths Marr.

  • @w3bt3k check out The The's "Mind Bomb" for even better Marr :-)

  • I think I have it on Vinyl. I haven't played any vinyl for almost ten years. Even my stereo has been packed away for that long. It's about time to dig it out. :)

  • i THINK its citys made from ashes

  • Tiny Cities Made of Ashes...its old Modest Mouse

  • Marr is good. And he was a great addition to modest mouse. Isaac brock was already a sick guitarist tho he's not incredibly skilled he plays some great shit. Most modest mouse fans think the addition of johnny marr has actually brought the band down a lil. I think he's been a great addition and fits well into the bands ever-changing style.

  • This band is crap and Johnny is waaaay too good for them. I guess they are the best he could find to jam with in his area? Sad.

  • Surely you must be joking...

  • love Marr. He reinvents himself and becomes relevant again. Modest Mouse is a great band and they have a great guitarist.

  • do you really think that in this track he is SO GREAT ?

  • Marr is way too good for this band.

  • its not technical, but that doesn't make it bad

  • He left the Smiths or The Smiths left him...to make this crap?

  • Crap?

It's incredibly different from the Smiths, but it isn't crap. This was one of the first Modest Mouse songs I heard, and Marr playing makes it all the better.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, Miilx is closer minus the "crap". Marr wanted to reinvent and Moz wanted to continue in the same direction. Human nature.

  • (oops I hit remove when I meant reply to add to my comment). I agree with you. I was pointing out that his comment "or The Smiths left him" wasn't accurate.

As for Marr leaving and the comment about Moz's ego, the version I heard was essentially the same as yours: Marr wanted to reinvent while Moz wanted to continue in the same direction (which is continue being Moz).

I also agree that this isn't crap.

  • what song is this , i must have it

  • "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes".

    Best song at their concert

  • Is this the same johnny marr from The Smiths?

  • indeed it is

  • great tune

  • johnny marr can add anything to any artist and it will be an improvement !!

  • Yay! Johnny Marr <3

  • i wish i could be with mm and marr in amsterdam

  • I'm so glad that he joined them. Great addition to a great band.

  • Modest Mouse, great

Modest Mouse plus Johnny Marr, awesome.

    They're are a perfect fit.

  • damn he looks so young lol

  • what song are they playing? :P

  • Tiny cities made of ashes...

  • If you don't know about Modest Mouse, look them up. They are the best band performing today (and imo of all time.) No one comes close to them on lyics, and they are really REALLY creative and an amazing band.

  • looks like you wasted your time at school with that grammar.

  • LMAO, well said!

  • He's working with the cribs now... can't wait to see them live in october!

  • But in the smiths he was so great and different and his guitar style is unique and hard to play. So its heard to come close after that.

  • johnny marr look so young :O

  • Noel Gallagher is a wannabe johnny marr

  • Gallagher even attempts to have his hair like Marr. What a fail!

All Gallagher ever does is just thrash out chords and hopes the NME had call it genius when it clearly isn't.

  • saw modest mouse 2008 when they played at deer lake. if and when they come back to vancouver i will go and see them again.

  • Met Johnny on the street in Toronto when he was with The The. Almost got up to his room, but the roadie wouldn't let me up the elevator. I can't believe he is still the best guitarist around. How many years has he been doing it. The man is amazing!

  • fuck everyone whos saying marrs too good for modest mouse.

    mm are gods

  • not trying to upset you cwsnow, but Johnny`s been the best thing about every band that he has played with. Morrisey can`t compare .... Matt Johnson was in awe .... he`s something special .... people shouldn`t take anything away from modest mouse though. Do you think they enjoy having him around?

  • not upset at all.

im just not a fan of all these people calling brock and modest mouse shit when theyve probably never even given them a listen.

i dont know about the other guys, but im sure isaac enjoys another guy in the band who has the ability to really help creatively.

  • The definition of insanity is clearly Modest Mouse in concert. They are coming to Kingston in August .... can't wait! I'd say that 9 out of 10 people that hear Modest Mouse say to me "not my kind of music" I usually suggest they listen to Mylie. This video reminds me of Black Francis with Pixies. Cheers

  • no kidding. next time they come to vancouver im there.

    have a good one.

  • Modest Mouse is very underrated. They have a unique personality. For me, they were an acquired taste, but the more I listen to them, the more I love them.

  • right !!

  • Oh man.... I am a huge JM fan (I have two Rickenbackers solely due to my love for his early sound)....but this video is proof that the man still has it...and although I never was a fan of MM before.....with JM they become something amazing..... To be honest, the JM and the Healers never interested me.... but I thought "As long as he's enjoying himself...."

  • i agree

  • I keep coming back to this. It's so funky and so much better than the studio version. Marr is awesome!

  • Absolutely.... this version is mesmerizing... the original is bit mechanical...

  • completely agree. this version is incredible.

  • i think its standard analogue delay with a ring modulator. some bits sounds like theres reverse delay in there too

  • what song is this?

  • Tiny cities made of ashes

  • Delay

  • I didnt know Marr played with modest mouse?????

  • morrisey left him alone... so sad

  • Holy God.... once he played guitar in the greatest band of all time... now this...... jesus christ.

  • Now it's the other greatest band of all time!

  • Marr always has THE LOOK. Whatever band he's playing with, he always looks like he was born to play with them. The hair, the shoes, the type of guitar, the way that he holds it. He's the most stylish guitarist on the planet.

  • Wow, Wilco and Modest Mouse, both have old awsome similer sounding Jazzmaster playing gods. Nels Cline is a god.

  • Always busy, this one...

  • Is Johnny Marr a permanent member of Modst Mouse? I didn't know about this until just now, this is awesome!!!

  • I think so, although he is a full time member of the cribs now aswell, he is in the middle of writing an album with them and then touring etc soo cant be sure!!!

  • How old is johnny exactly?

He looks like a 19 year old

    not very common in musicians

  • I know! he's 45 and he still has it going on!

  • people can complain and groan as much as they want but i highly doubt marr is going to leave MM..

the smiths was then and MM is now.... get over it

  • i love johnny marr in the smiths but this just gave me a headache... marr and morrissey together is what it should be niether are as good without each other

  • There's a series of short interview clips on here with johnny talking about how he got together with MM. He seems to think it works. I've seen him with The The, The Healers, and a few times with MM......looking forward to Sunday in Fort Lauderdale and a week later in NYC.....too bad Johnny won't be there.

  • aaa! I can't wait until March 15th in NYC...too bad Marr won't be around

    oh well

and uhh F**K YOU thespoofinator! Modest Mouse rules!!

  • What a great guitar player... shame about the singer, who sounds like a Bum they just found in the street. What a waste of a guitar talent. A great guitarist needs a great singer, simple. Mercury and May, Page and Plant, Ronson and Bowie and Morrissey and Marr. Sticking a great guitarist in your band, does not make you a worthy band. You can't polish a turd.

  • Really? You're an idiot.

  • Modest mouse are a very original band and anyone who thinks they're shit should listen to the album "good news for people who like bad news." and see if they still feel the same. Marr is exploring new horizons there and good on him for it!

  • Some of Modest Mouse music is pretty original but the singer's style is hardly original. Go listen to Doolittle by the Pixies. Francis Black was doing the "barking" thing long before Isaac.

  • it is original compared to all of the over-compressed fake sounding vocals of nowadays.

Brock is the whole package. A good, original guitarist; a surprisingly versatile singer, and a great songwriter and lyricist.

    everyone has influences...

  • I agree... but Radiohead was influenced by the Smiths and Thom Yorke sounds nothing like Morrissey. Being influenced by an artist doesn't mean you sound exactly like them. That seems to be the case with some of Brock's vocals when compared to Black's. It's no big deal, but it's not original at all. You can't compare somethings originality to modern music, you have to compare it to what has already been done.

  • true

but radiohead were deffo not influenced by the smiths. sorry, i cant agree there.

brock sounds like a mixture between the fat one with glasses from he young knives, anthony keidis, and john lennon i think :)

  • Ed O Brien began playing guitar because of The Smiths. They did a cover of Headmaster Ritual. They were definetely influenced by The Smiths.

  • wouldnt say that their music is directly influence by the smiths. they may play their instruments because of the simths etc, but you cant physically hear the smiths in radiohead's music

  • you're cutting corners now. Look at The Bends... triple guitar attack equals Marr's three guitars overdubbed. In Black Star, Greenwood throws a riff in right before the chorus over Yorke's chording similar to Marr's riff over chording on I Want the One I Can't Have.

They've listen The Smiths as one of their influences... I'm pretty sure that qualifies as a direct influence whether or not YOU can hear The Smiths in Radiohead's music

  • listed* not listen

  • so nobody has ever used triple guitar attack before.

and, although the methods behind recording etc are possibly influence by others (which should be the case; nobody can re-invent ways to record), i still dont HEAr the smiths in Radiohead.

Im a huge radiohead fan, and a huge Smiths fan, but i dont hear a direct link. theres obvious cultural and implicit influences, but i dont hear (yes, hear) many
