  • Even better to get shoulders off the Matt I learned how to by first doing that then using my head to roll onto so like quick headstand then nothing

  • I wanna see a HWT do this

  • the Granby is a really good move

  • from where am at theres a wrestling camp just for granbys and its worth 400 bucks to learn. 0.0

  • holy balls thats coach martin speaking.. hahah

  • This is an awesome series, I even teach wrestling to my Krav Maga class, this is some for real ground work. Great series, I wrestled for Hofstra back in the day and this refreshes and explains why I do some of the things I do.

One day some guy invited me to his "kick boxing" class, a bunch of Tae Kwon Dodos, a shot a single leg sweep, shocked the hell out of him. Kids, once you learn this stuff, it never leaves you.

  • I cant figure out what Im doing wrong. Im pretty sure Im doing everything right. Im getting wrist control and everything. When I roll The other kid wont roll with me.

  • @teartheskydrumma if hes off you just get an escape

  • @teartheskydrumma roll harder and make sure to roll across your shoulders not your back.

  • is that not a pin when he rolls ? he does roll on his neck and shoulders

  • @chargersrule1721

If the guy on top catches the guy on bottom while he's rolling and holds him in that position for the one, two, count, then yes it's a pin. Otherwise, if the bottom guy is going full speed, it's really hard to stop it.

This was my all time favorite move in high school! Although I loved this move, it ended my wrestling season in high school during my senior. I dislocated my shoulder doing it LOL

Haven't done it since either. Still love the move though!

  • switches

  • Dude, my school invented this shit :) Granby High School, Norfolk, VA ;)

  • @cmmccorey5 hell yeah bud,im from virginia as well salem va

  • @cmmccorey5 I thought Granby was a single person,a wrestler, who created the move.Who was the coach/athlete who came up with the technique at Granby High?

  • @cmmccorey5 I thought Granby was a single person,a wrestler, who created the move.Who was the coach/athlete who came up with the technique at Granby High?

  • @ATACXGYM Not sure, but I know it was my school. They have a plaque outside of the gym commemorating it.

  • @cmmccorey5 Alright man respect and well done for your school! Maybe you can find out who made up that tech. That would be tite,son...and important to know too.

  • @cmmccorey5 And thank GOD for your school, because I destroyed many a people when I hit a Granby.... Especially from standing!

  • I don't know where you guys get your information... the granby is always the first move when you get any sort of high pressure. They don't even need to chop the arm. You don't even need to secure their wrist to escape. Whistle, pop the hip, roll. If you can secure the arm, great, try and get the 5. If not, you're escaped. The granby will literally make or break your win/loss record if you get good at hitting it. Should work quite well for submission grappling as well

  • @getsetrecords You're absolutely right about this position working well in submission grappling. The shoulder-to-shoulder roll is a technique that leads to inverted guard play and high-level BJJ and submission grappling. It's also great for escaping someone's back control and reversing it on them (see my video of Sean Fisher vs. Ryan Hall, at the end of the match)

  • @getsetrecords agree. The Granby gets a bad name because it's a little unusual and takes some practice; LOL even with practice I never was able to catch the arm with it. I got plenty of escapes though. The key is what you said about high pressure. Too often kids try to force this in inappropriate situations and they end up flopping right on their back.

  • this is really good i'm oging to be using what i have seen here in a tournament tomrrow

  • this is really good i'm oging to be using what i have seen here in a tournament tomrrow

  • this is really good i'm oging to be using what i have seen here in a tournament tomrrow

  • I used the first variation while rolling during submission grappling class today, it should work well as long as you keep a good defensive posture while in the turtle. Even if you don't get the sweep, you still put your opponent in guard which is better than letting him have your back. The second variation is no good for mma and grappling because it would allow your opponent to hop on your back and choke you out.

  • You have to be kinda quick though or risk getting stacked

  • I tried a flip granby once and almost got stacked doing it so yeah.

  • Use this to go right into the bas rutten neck crank for submission grappling or MMA

  • @getthetapjj Yep, chest compress neck crank from catch wrestling :)

  • im a lightweight wrestler, so this is a great idea :)

    p.s. Go female wrestling!!

  • its a decent move if ur good and use it at the right time. but its also easy to counter

  • @lolfunny69: I agree. Try to hit a few stand-ups, sits, and switches. If they don't work and the granby opportunity presents its self, then you hit it. But its not good for a first move

  • The Granby also works great when the other guy is choping the elbow for a knee break. you dont have to cross step when he chops the elbow you can just roll throught

  • good instruction/narration

  • i must learn this!

  • If you Granby hard and only make mat contact with your shoulders than they can't cheap tilt you halfway through the roll.

Guys this move is killer, especially when someone loves to arm chop as a breakdown (which is the most common breakdown and also what wrestlers are first taught).

  • if they tilt you through the roll you probably didnt clear the inside leg and step across like you were suppose to

  • what am I doing wrong if my opponent always ends up on his stomach?

  • nothing necessarily... He may just be a lazy wrestler. Try to attack at an angle as opposed to going straight forward

  • lol i'm 171 lbs and i get this maybe 9/10 times. i'm so happy i learned this move. my advice is you should practice it alot, and if you feel comfortable then use it! good luck.

  • I'm a lightweight wrestler, and I remember when my coach first taught me this, I hated it because of the awkward positioning (at the time) and potential risk. It's now my favorite move, and I still remember the time a guy beat me and started to use this move because I used it on him in our match.

  • my favorite move ever i just do it right out of referees with out wrist control i just kick up when i am verticle to make sure his hands cant grab my legs its great when u need that extra one

  • elcangry17, to get an escape for 1 just dont do a peterson with it

  • holy smokes! this move looks awesome. im gonna try it the next time someone takes my back with no hooks in. it leads right into twister side control too, which is awesome. thank for the video!

  • this is what you do to clear those hooks! if he has both legs in

  • that wouldnt work

  • yes it does, its the only way to get the hooks out! you can do a granby to get out of alot of bad positions

  • @lovemym16 nevermind i see what your talking about

  • im a 119 pounder and this move works wonders for me

  • This is somehow a good move but isn't it depends who your facing against in a match. If you pull this off with someone strong covering you then when your upside down they could stop you right there and find a pin there it all depends on who you wrestle I try never to use this move in any of my matches.

  • thts a gramby with a peterson at the end. this move is awesome

  • Shit, maybe this'll work for me in 103 if I start lifting a bit more, shit, practice makes perfect.

  • no perfect practice makes perfect

  • you don't role on your back, but on your shoulders and neck..love it

  • this is my favorite movie i got first place on leauge finals last year with this move

  • i think you can altercate these move to scape for 1

  • this move never works unless ur AMAZING at it. normally they'll just chop ur arm into a cheap tilt right away

  • no they cant cheap tilt if u do it right. the tight waist and arm chop makes it easier to granby. at least for me it does

  • when you're done in this move, you end up in a peterson, right?

  • yep

  • i learned petersons last year, and we just went over them today in practice

    i like them

  • Perdy much.

  • i love the granby's if u wanna get just a little greedy like me just a little u can sometimes after u flip him over replace your hand on arm to hand around head & then lock hands with the one thats around leg its a good pin but u gotta be fast.

  • man i cant get this move down

  • It's not that hard, unless you're a freshman ^^

  • im in eighth grade and im am amazing at it... it has nothing to do with that....u just gotta be quick and dont roll on ur back always be up on ur shoulders

  • I meant if you're a freshman and it's your first year wrestling :P

  • this technique is no good unless ur real good at it my ast.coach embarrsed me with it the other day

  • this seems useless if you don't grab his leg before you roll, cause he can just roll with you, which is what all athletes do in college when you granby.

  • i met coach Pritts at a wrestling camp recently, hes so cool

  • yea not the greatest technique you have to clear your right arm other wise your opponet can chop the arm and then gains back points

  • yea ive done this move but never new i can hold on to him lol just i used to get away

  • i used to do this all the time but i never knew what it was called, thanks!

  • ya.. there never pretty like that cuz the top guy never rolls with you.

  • I've done this from a sit out position and scored lots of times! great video

  • no from a sitout its called a peterson roll, its differnt

  • well... he might be doing a peterson, but you CAN do a granby from a sit out position. its called a front sit granby. It's Tough, though.

  • I'm so doing this tomorrow in my county finals!!!

  • damn im gona try this when my season starts

all i did was switches and sat there until i hear a moan

then the half (head and arms are too risky)

  • Yeah he didn't cross step the first time and I never do it when i work bottom... My favorite move from bottom but stand ups are more effective

  • i could never get the granby right-.-

  • Now I have a question, should I in my mind be thinking more of this as a Granby "flip" rather then a Granby roll? Because it looks like he is flipping and from most good granbys that I've seen in college it looks nothing like a side to side roll. But tucking your head under your stomach, towards your crotch, and flipping forward.

  • yeah i would have that kind of mentallity to it. Almost all of the coaches i have been with have told me to push off as much as possible with your right leg, therefore making it a very hard roll, looking like a flip. if you think of it as a shoulder roll u could get caught

  • Yeah, its best if your shoulders don't even touch the mat. Also make sure you grab the wrist as you go over if you want to get control. Its possible to get out without getting wrist control but you wont reverse him.(probably only get 1 without wrist control on someone who's not that good either.)

  • cross step is so you can get leverage off of that foot and gain enough momentum to roll yourself and/or an opponent.

  • what is the purpose of the cross step? id ont even think he did it in the first one

  • he also didnt put his butt up the first time

  • this move is still kool though.

  • I love this move but it is really hard to learn without proper instruction from a coach. I learned mine at APP state wrestling camp and next week I am going to the Granby School Technique camp in Virginia

  • can the top guy stop the roll using the arm on the other guy's stomache?

  • No, he'll end up rolling over the back of your shoulder. You counter it by keeping him sucked in tight, your hips close and you do a granby along with him.

  • 109 high school state champions and three Olympians developed under his tutelage. He won 21 high school team championships in 22 years at Granby High School. The move is very famous and successful.

  • this move will never be effective in any kind of Submission type wrestling. i.e. Greco-Roman, Judo,Jujitsu and Sambo

  • The move is srictly for nearfall and to convert to a pin, it has more to do with points than physical submission.

  • Greco-roman wrestling is not a form of submission wrestling and nobody said this move had anything to do with submission wrestling

  • Thats why the title says wrestling and not submission wrestling u idiot

  • ROFL Greco-Roman=Submissions heehee!

  • who cares?

  • i nvr tried this but does the momentum of the roll force the guy on top to roll with you? or can he just back away wen u initiate the move and then attack 1ce u roll away?

  • Can you Granby Roll out of the Bar Arm, Hammerlock, Head Lever, or Ball and Chain?

  • do yall know the creater of the granby roll died

i saw it in my local news paper

i live in hampton virginia and i wrestle for kecoughtan which is one city north of norfolk where Granby high school is.

  • You are correct sir.

  • 911 inside job

  • LOL, you must have never wrestled before.

  • Wouldn't the ref call it potentially dangerous if the person has the legs in midair..?

  • your dumb
