  • I wanna be a guy just so I can sing this song properly~ I love it so much!

  • saw this off broadway yesterday. was cryin like hell when angel died :(

  • @midge002 They did.

  • Where's the LOVE button?

  • who is singing female solo at the end? is it Joanne or female Season of love soloist?

  • Lovely song, to be sure, but I have to say that I don't think this guy has the best vocal range for the song. He really strikes me as tenor or higher baritone, and the part's written for a lower baritone, or perhaps a bass. It's a great song, though.

  • @thenextbookworm he hits that low G better than anyone i've heard, especially when he has such great tone 2 octaves above it.

  • @jive0in Let's hear it for large vocal ranges!! Although, I'm not sure where the G in question is. Could you tell me?

  • @thenextbookworm If I'm right (and I'm pretty sure I am), it's the note at the end of the world 'shelter' near the beginning (I'm crap with time stamps, so can't provide one - sorry).

  • @mellojellobonbello Okay, I know where you're talking about, it just sounds to me like the volume and ease dropped off at that note, sounding like he's pushing the limits of his range. It just reminds me of how my voice sounds when I try to sing the lowest notes I'm capable of. I do love the song though!

  • @thenextbookworm isnt it "shelterrrr" ? i could be wrong but it think it's a G

  • @thenextbookworm I believe he's a low baritone, but with a pretty good high range, if you listen to the movie version he hits some very low notes :)

  • saddest song in a musical next to

you're eyes, without you, will i?

    no more-into the woods

    i've been-next 2 normal

empty chairs, castle on a cloud, finale, i dreamed a dream-les mis

  • When you listen to the soundtrack pretty much 24/7, it's too easy to forget the emotional impact that it had when you first heard it.

I listened to this song again for the first time in months. I damn near cried.

  • I love the broadway soundtrack! It's more raw than the motion picture soundtrack...

  • youtube needs a love button so i can find all the rent songs and love them....

  • I love you Andrew :) Your birthday is 2 days away and I can't believe it's been only 5 months since you left...seems like 50 years.

  • I sobbed hysterically for twenty minutes after this the first time I watched RENT.

  • Jonathan Larson would be freaking proud.

  • When your heart has expired, oh lover, I'll cover you. ♥

  • RIP Garrett. Your little sister loves you forever and always.

    <3

  • I'm about to cry :'-]

  • want to make/ see me cry?

    play this song

  • This is probably the only the song that can almost always bring tears to my eyes, especially when Jesse sings it it's so sad and powerful and the entire cast puts so much emotion into it. Jonathan Larson sure knew how to write a song.

  • I always bawl my eyes out when Angel dies.

    Rent <3

  • this is collins...

  • love this song doo much each time i cry even harder

  • I want to find and kill the one person who dislikes this. How dare they???!!!

I was Collins in my school's musical.. We brought in about $10,000 and put half of all profits to various charitys.. That whole musical was nothing short of a blessing, and i wouldn't be as dedicated to music as i am now if it weren't for RENT.

    thank you, J. Larson<3

  • who sings along also with joanna, theres another mans voice ? and it's not collons kinda sounds like benny?

  • @QuitiaMoore1 Yeah, I think it's Benny

and it's Joanne, not Joanna haha

I'm seriously in love with this play.

I'm going trick-or-treating as Angel next year and my friend is gonna be Collins!

    :D

  • @jUaOsHiKi I'm going as Angel next year too.

  • @QuitiaMoore1 It's neither. It's the same male and female soloists that are in seasons of love. They are just two members of the chorus. Watch the recording of rent on broadway and you'll see. It's not like the film.

  • @QuitiaMoore1 @jUaOsHiKi no, it isn't Benny... I'm pretty sure it's the unnamed soloist who sings the guy solo in Seasons of Love. You know, the same guy who's always in the Christmas Bells are ringing parts... :)

  • @QuitiaMoore1 In the Movie it's roger... I'm guessing it's the same here

  • @tobkysky It's Collins in both not Roger

  • my theatre company is doing this show and everytime im on stage for this song im sobbing my little eyes out. such emotion i love rent

  • The one person who responded negatively to this song obviously has no soul.

  • Amazing Video! I'm going to subscribe. Keep up the good work!!

  • Just blocked this scene yesterday for the showing Im in....cried my eyes out...

  • ILY ANGEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1996 is the best year!

  • This isn't as good when i saw it live. He was actually sobbing. I was sobbing too. The crowd felt his emotion

  • my heart broke in 2 when angel died and this song is so beautiful i love this movie so much

  • Jesse L Martin is the Original Collins so his voice rocks on this song and every song he sang for rent!!!Movie and Broadway!

  • we will all miss angel.

  • this is my favorite version. i refuse to listen to the movie version or any other one

  • @canullijr Not even the last Collins on Broadway????????????

  • i love rent and this song is amazing (l)x

  • i cry every time i here this

  • i love this song (L)

  • It's so beautiful because you can literally hear the heartbreak in his voice. I always want to cry with him. Every time.

  • everytime i watch this scene in the movie i cry so much because jesse l martin is soo emotional. i didnt think someone could put that much emotion into their vocals until i heard this

  • this song is soooo sad :[ his vocals are amazing.... it really ties the scene together.

  • All I can do is cry

  • i literally can not stop listening and enjoying this song!

  • all I can do is CRY

  • 1:38 always gets me

  • every time i watch the movie i cry at this seen. it's so sweet. and i love his vocals in this part exspecialy when the chorus cuts out and he sings "When your heart has expired" that's my favorite part of the whole movie.

  • I believe Jesse L Martin does the best rendition of this song. So many other people try to make the song about how much vocal gymnasts they can do verses the pure emotional connection with what just happened in the show. I rather hear the song simply done with strong emotional connection then to hear how many runs a guy can do with his voice.

  • Although i agree with you statement about Jesse L Martin doing the best rendition of this song, Michael McElroy did a great emotional version as well. and I agree with what you say, im glad im not the only one who thinks that way.

  • I LOVE his version of the song, I'm not as much of a fan of him in the other songs.. but I love his reprise.. its so emotional

  • @JLRisby The guy we've got in our version does a very nice version. he's got a deeper voice but the way the back up singers sing is a lot more composed and it feels a lot more like a wall of emotion than this recording. Granted, I may be bias XD

  • yes jesse matin! sing! still a heartbreaking moment in the show.

  • they should bring back rent

  • @midge002 they going 2 do 1 in L A vanessa hudges is going 2 cum out shes going 2 be mimi

  • @midge002 no, it's been on 2 long

  • @midge002 Rent starts Off Broadway Revival July 14th 2011

  • @Tinmannyc Really? That's awesome!

  • @Tinmannyc sadly, it isn't on tour so I can't see it

  • @midge002 June 2011 :D

  • @midge002 They have :)

  • "When your heart has expired!" My favorite part! Brings tears to my eyes...

  • I think what it really boils down to is not the fact that they were the originals (although that may be part of it) but considering that they all lived through Jonathan's death and still performed after he died. I think that is what truly connected them and what created this passion and emotion that is so poignant in this particular song. All I must say is, Brava.

  • Sob!

  • ke skifio

  • @yomycreativity senti la versione Italiana.....bel brano....

  • i cry a big fat river EVERY time i see this.

  • me too...

  • This song get's me every time. =[ It is so sweet and he singss it with so much passion, so much feeling. I can't help but cry everytime.

  • is the sololist in this version Gwen Stewert or Fredi Walker?

  • Comment removed

  • i know he's making bank on TV but it sure seems like a waste of talent.

  • OH MY GOODNESS! I could not agree with you more! Ooh that is so true.

  • Anyone that doesn't cry during this is mentally ill!

  • I cry everytime. I've seen the show six times and the movie more times than I can count a total rent head. I know it's coming and I still cry. and it's not cute. Not like the wipe the tears from the corner of your eye crying. Full on weeping.

  • seen it over 6 times. i cry EVER time!!!! i always gets me! lol

  • I do the exact same thing.

The funeral scene always gets to me.

And it is the full weeping thing too. :D

  • in the movie i almost cried cuz he look so hurt and sad. omg my eyes r watering up

  • me too..

  • I did cry! I love this song!

  • never fails to bring tears to my eyes...

  • Rent is the best musical i have ever seen.......this song is soo emotional especially, "When your heart has expired!" i always get teary eyed when i hear that. and i absolutely love this song and the whole musical in general

  • For anyone who has ever experienced the genuine, raw feeling of true love... This is so hard to listen to without really breaking down. This is so passionate and heartfelt. Jesse is a fantastical actor and an unbelievable vocalist. <3 R.I.P Johnathan

  • Oh god...this just makes me cry like a kid.

  • It's so emotional and so sad. I adore Rent. It's truly life-changing.

  • When i saw RENT in St. Louis this song made everybody cry. When you hear this song you can really hear Collins heart and soul in it..so sad

  • If I'm not mistaken, on the RENT 10 footage Jesse is crying real tears when he sings this. He really put his heart and soul into this song.

  • Out of every Collins i've heard, Jesse is still the only one who does it justice. And I'm not just saying that because he is the original. It's because it's true. No one else can do it right.

  • I completely agree. Jesse *is* Collins. Period. Others can't even begin to compare. Jesse is still the only one who can make me cry while listening to this.

  • I have to agree there, I don't think anyone else but Jesse would ever be able to sing this song with so much emotion.

It's like that with all of them though, they've been the character so long and the cast became so close its hard to belevie anyone else could ever replace them, plus their connection and hardtimes just come out through their music and make it even better.

  • This is so beautiful !(L)

  • this song is the most beautiful song ever and it always makes me cry like a baby.

  • just watched the movie yet again

    rent=best musical EVER

  • God that song ALWAYS makes me cry :'(

  • Whenever this song comes up in the movie I cry. You can hear the pain in his voice especially in the last note.

  • One of the most powerful song I have ever heard.

  • It's so amazing how much emotion Collins can put into this, and it's only the recording! Incredible!

  • Went to see the UK ameteur premiere of this the other day, was in tears. amazing song :D

  • No mater how many time I listen or watch this I always cry.

  • This song always gives me the chills.

  • damn i miss this show

  • They made Rent into a movie after its phenomenal success as a Broadway show, so that everybody could enjoy the genius of Jonathon Larson and the beautiful story of Rent

  • its a AMAZING broadway show that stopped after 12 years.....if u even Look at the title it says 1996 OBC recording...the movie came out in 2006 and OBC means original broadway cast

  • This is an incredible scene on stage. Heartwrenching. However, I don't care for this version. It seemed very rushed. You can put in so much more raw emotion when you slow it down. Jesse is the best Collins, though.

  • true... this scene almost made me cry, and Im not a crier though (even though this past week Ive crying a lot) and my eyes got a little watery. And YES Jesse is the best Collins ever I wish I saw him in the show too

  • This song is amazing... i just saw rent live in st. louis over the weekend and it was fantastic... i would highly recomend it to any1... if to people that dont think they would like it.

  • I saw it in St. Louis last wednesday; it was my first time seeing it all the way through and I adored every minute of it. I almost cried at this part, in fact.

  • I cried so much when i saw this scene on stage,

  • ............WAAAAAAAAAAAH!

  • *sob**sob* ANGEEEEEEEEEEEL!

    TToTT

  • this song always make me shed tears. truly, this is one of the most saddest moments in broadway, or hell, even in all of entertainment media.

  • definitely-just breaks you doesn't it?Same here

  • oh my god, i know. I usually can't take this scene, it makes me cry so hard, and not just because I'm an Angel fangirl. Jesse's performance in this was incredible, and it's just heartbreaking.

  • I always cry whenever I hear this. This is my main crying part in the movie. It's so musical.

  • why are the real movie clips no longwer available..should i be lookin somewhere else??

  • buy the movie.

  • bought the movie long ago...wanted the clip for facebook occasion

  • A good friend of mine is in college and she couldnt come back to see me and my friends preform a play we were doing so we called her, put her on speaker phone and sang this to her. 20 choir geeks singing this song impromptu. it was beautiful, and we made her cry

  • That's amazing! Kudos!

My firends usually break into LA Vie Boheme during school lunch. And Tango Maureen during sound check lol

  • I like this poster better than the one for the movie.

  • Dude leave bob alone he's friggin awsome

  • This is my wedding song....

  • this song makes me cry everytime. its beautiful.

i was balling during when i went to see this on broadway

  • me too!

only i saw it in the movie,

i wish i saw it on broadway

  • This song always gives me chills

  • This song is so real, sad, and beautiful. you really feel the pain in Collins and everyones voices.

  • totally that is why it is my favorite song!!!!!!!

  • When he sings "When your heart has expire" I broke into tears

  • My favourite song! Moves me everytime! Jesse is just so amazing.

  • It's Jesse L. Martin singing the vocals. Jonathan Larson is the creator of the musical.

  • jonathon larson wrote the musical. and died the day he got to broadway. i think it was his lifes purpose and it was fufiled. rip jonathon

  • No. Jesse is singing here. He's in both the movie and the OBC.

All of the people in the movie were in the Broadway production except Rosario Dawson and Tracie Thoms. In the Broadway Production of Rent, Daphne Rubin-Vega played Mimi and Freddi Walker played Joanne.

You did make a silly mistake! ;P

  • however, I do like it.

  • it seems to fast.

  • im doing the welsh premiere for rent in newport :D and ma friend who sings this song is amazin :D as good as him :D

  • I cannot begin to explain how suprised I was to find out that was Det. Green from Law and Order. I was like, "Holy Shit! Det. Green's got some pipes!" What a voice!

  • This songs means a lot to me and some of my friends. Dec. 8th 2008 we lost a very close friend and my best friend lost her gf. To us, we all feel like we live the life shown in RENT. We laugh together, cry together, and live for each other. RENT was her favorite! She'd give anything to go see it just one more time. This song was played at our friends funeral, and like in the movie, we all stood there and sang. We're going to miss you Sarah Elizabeth Wells. Rest in peace dear. 11/15/87-12/09/08

  • That's so nice... kudos to you, and sorry about your friends. my blessings and condolences.

  • that is amazingly sweet and you have my condolences as well. Whether it was like the scene in the movie or not it really shows the love you all shared for her and that's beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • his voice amazes me. i was singing along once, but i stopped and listened, and he put's his heart, soul and all his emotion into this. it makes me cry so much. x

  • Jesse's voice is so amazing. God, you can just feel the pain. This is, hands down, my favorite song from the show or the movie.

  • My fiance and I are planning to use this for our first dance. I wanted the original one, but he wanted a slow dance. We've settled on this.

  • Oh this is a perfect song! Good choice!

  • This song always makes me cry! Jesse is amazing, and he puts so much heart into this song.
