waqar in my mind is one of the best in the world ever because if you see all the other pace bowlers like ambrose, walsh, lee, styne etc they are all big boned and tall guys who can generate pace by bending their backs.. but waqar did it inspite of all this and his inswinging yorkers are easily THE BEST.. no one can match him... deadly accuracy!!!

he was probably the greatest bowler and i am his greatest fan...my blood use to boil seeing him bowling i used to get inspired by him and i read and applied his bowling run up - to arm technique...he was one of the most creative bowlers with a distinctive powerful style...

I remember him bowling at 160 km / hour on tour to South Africa after the world cup 1992. That was a tri series between Pak SA and WI that was amazing tht time,,,

Yes he did bowl above 155 kmph regularly and the worst part for batsmen were that the ball swung like a banana at such speeds .There was a term called as 'Waqared' which meant that the batsmen took an express quick sswinging yorker from him straight on the toes and normally the batsmen would fall flat on the pitch ,to do this regularly just goes to show both his pace and control over the ball both old and new .

Yes he was by far the best ,also when it came to those late reverse sswinging yorkers there was no one like him .He is probably the only bowler to be able to swing the ball at speeds above 155 kmph on unresponsive tracks in Sharjah .I think cricket was at its real best when people like him ,ambrose ,walsh and from India,s point of view Sachin Tendulkar were at their best

he influenced me for sure :) i used to back pakistan bcuz i was a big fan of his bowling style...i used to have dreams as a kid that i was bowling like waqar...almost a fantasy...he was a total fast bowler ..thats the word i would use for him..and a perfect model for a aspiring cricketer , focussed aggressive style of fast bowling and his technique was the finest

1>his technique was all about being powerful and feeling good as a fast bowler.

2>if only he had been used properly he could have lasted a lot longer cuz unlike other slinging action fast bowlers Waqars action was a smooth one although it seemed like he jerked he didn't.

3>he was fast + he was a thinking fast bowler as well, a hard combo.

4>God of swing.

apart from that his stats are in a different league itself :Waqar is the only bowler to have taken 5 wicket hauls in 3 consecutive ODIs. He has taken 4+ wickets on 27 occasions in ODIs, also a record. In terms of balls bowled, he has taken the fastest 50, 300, 350 and 400 wickets in ODI matches and the fastest 150, 200, 250, 300 and 350 wickets in Test matches.

@nasirkhanuk I have met Waqar and I remember his bowling BUT I would say Imran, MArshall and Wasim were better. NOT because they were more talented or this or that BUT just 'cause they were more consistent over a longer time period. All these names mentioned had great figures in their best years BUT some had more longevity than Waqar. When waqars pace went a little he was never as deadly he ones was.
