  • I'm in a Gershwin mood tonight, I just can't get enough.

  • This film has been inducted in the National Film Registry for 2011!

  • this is the original version of summertime people??

  • In this film, Loulie Jean Norman dubbed the singing voice for Diahann Carroll. Norman also sang the wordless melody of the original Star Trek theme.

  • That doesn't look like Dandridge. ?

  • @SueSnell: That's Diahann Carroll.

  • @OurGangFan you can watch it here at 1channel.ch - just type in 'Porgy and Bess' :)

  • did anybody else have no idea that this is where that sublime song came from lol

  • @coralfang0224 It's not from "this," though. It's a folk opera composed by Gershwin in 1936 (?)--but produced as a "musical" on Broadway. Not until the 1970's was it produced as a full opera but the Houston Light Opera Company & since then has had a few productions at the Met.The Goldwyn movie is a bit of a travesty. In the1950's movies were often of shabby artistic quality. If Blacks were used they had to be "stars"! E.G., Poitier doesn't sing & is far too handsome for Porgy.

  • I study voice with one of Ms. Addison's former pupils. He has the greatest respect for her, and her methods have made me a much better singer in my mid 50's than I was in my 20's.

  • What a shame we can not find this to purchase. Another wonderful movie id "Song of the South" Can not by it either.

  • I wish this film was available. I would love to see this.

  • I saw this version in the theater with my Mother. Oh, it had such an impact on me in so many ways!

  • @jbinmt I envy you!
