@coralfang0224 It's not from "this," though.It's a folk opera composed by Gershwin in 1936 (?)--but produced as a "musical" on Broadway. Not until the 1970's was it produced as a full opera but the Houston Light Opera Company & since then has had a few productions at the Met.The Goldwyn movie is a bit of a travesty.In the1950's movies were often of shabby artistic quality.If Blacks were used they had to be "stars"! E.G., Poitier doesn't sing & is far too handsome for Porgy.
I study voice with one of Ms. Addison's former pupils. He has the greatest respect for her, and her methods have made me a much better singer in my mid 50's than I was in my 20's.
I'm in a Gershwin mood tonight, I just can't get enough.

In this film, Loulie Jean Norman dubbed the singing voice for Diahann Carroll. Norman also sang the wordless melody of the original Star Trek theme.
