This has to be one of the worst remakes in the history of television. That intro betrayed everything that was great about the original series. A total shambles from start to finish.
That bit on the sofa at the end makes by toes curl.
John Schuck sounds too much like Charles Nelson Reilly. This isn't to say he should've emulated Fred Gwynne (as future actors in the Munsters TV movies have) but the voice was still all wrong. I will say that the rest of the cast did a decent job portraying the characters, even if the writing was very sub par.
i wonder whether there is anyone who prefers "the munsters today" to the original munsters series. even john schuck likely preferred the original, even if he wouldn't admit to it. if someone prefers "the munsters today", it's likely someone who has seen hardly any of the original series. i can't imagine what it would be like to see "the munsters today" without already being very familiar with the original series. nevertheless, john schuck was good in some other shows.
absolutely aweful series. I cant belive they made such a bad job of it. This intro makes my toes curl. The Originals were great but this was just plain bad.
The low point of this series was the episode in which the family showed up for a wedding. Suddenly the Munsters were a Jewish family with an aunt Yedda and all kinds of Jewish acting family members who happened to dress like monsters.
What is wrong with the Munsters having Jewish sort of relatives? Al Lewis was a Jewish Grandpa. I loved that episode. I dont get ur problem. And her name was Yetta.
@Snick47 Holy crap , I wish you were right. But I think Cyclops was JAMES Marsden , & this kid's named Jason. But this show was pure excrement , and proof that lightning rarely strikes twice.
No JASON Marsden was the guy who played Nelson Burkhard on Full House, Rich Halke on Step by Step, and voiced Richie Foley on the cartoon Static Shock.
I hated this show with a passion. I grew up in the 1970s watching all sorts of syndicated reruns of classic tv shows (like the original Munsters), but by the 1980s, cable tv was growing by leaps and bounds and snatching up the broadcasting rights to all the good stuff I used to grow up watching on the local free broadcast channels. I wouldnt be able to afford cable until 1996. So before 1996, I had to put up with dreck like this. I much prefered the old original Munsters and still do.
I disagree. It was enough before when the Addams' cleaned the Munsters' clocks in the ratings between the original two sitcoms, but even with the All-New Addams Family in 1998, at least the Addams' knew when to cancel that and had been well-off before that with two hit feature films, two well-received cartoons, and the 60's sitcom classic, whereas the Munsters was saddled with being second best as a sitcom to start with & then had this...sequel, followed by cruddy made-for-TV movies.
I thought this was meant to be a comedy, it scared the crap out of me

If the opening is "the only good thing about the show", I'd hate to see the rest of the show!
