I love the comparison. I just picked up a used 500 earlier in the week. It makes my 44mag cartridges look like a 38spl! :) And it makes the cylinder on my Super Redhawk look like a 22 cylinder.

@aaron9630 Shoot a 44, then 75%-double that and you have a Casull but killing is 4-5 even 6 times faster bigger badder.. Killing on the 500 is maybe 50% more but essentially the same job,,, kick there's a lot of factors between loads and if you have a break and vents or just vents like I do vs ??? - all things equal I'd assume you'd only need to know the ft/lb of forces it can exhibit on an object and the FPS along with the grain. Only for experienced and recoil tolerant individuals.
Those black talons will always look sick. Also love the way the Winchester silver tips look, but they don't have the history the black talons do (For better or for worse).
growing up ive always wanted a hand cannon thats why my first gun buy, other than my 12 guage was a 500 s&w. first time shooting i fired the winchester silver hollow points and they are a 375 grian. and relized i need more bang for my buck so i had my gun shop order me in the highest grain bullet they could find a 500 grain custom hornady box for about the same price. everyone crys about there being to much recoil and so far i havent seen why hopeing the 500 grains actually have some kick.

How hard is it to reset after a shot with this thing? Biggest I ever shot was .44 Mag, and I actually felt the .357 Revolver or .45 ACP 1911 A1 were better for self defense, as I could keep the muzzle pretty level and in front of me even with one hand. When I fired two round bursts, the .45 would have two shots in the kill zone. With the .44, only one, then a couple of seconds to bring the gun back down, etc. Granted, only one shot needed with the big stuff, but if you do miss?

Gotta respect the S&W 500, but I'm more of a Desert Eagle fan myself. I'd absolutely love to have a DE that could fire the .500 magnum but unfortunately since the DE is an automatic it would be impossible to squeeze that long cartridge into a magazine and grip that would fit into a human hand.

@iropeadope They make 275 and 300 grain round in lighter pressures for deer hunting. The recoil is around the same as a 44 mag and if you're going in to bear or hog territory you can use the bigger, hotter loads.
@Kersey475 Actually some bulletproof vests will stop a 500 magnum, especially military vests, like the interceptor. Interceptor is a Level 4 vest and will stop some rifle rounds. Most police will be wearing a Level 2 vest which will stop a .357 or maybe .44 mag, but a 500 magnum will zip right through it. It will pulverize a lock though

When you had the initial set up I was hoping that the .44 on the end was the .500, but not so. amazing round. what would be the application, maybe thick skinned game....it's too much for target shooting unless you're talking long range steel.

Actually they do make alot of different grains for the 44 cal it goes from 180gr to 360gr and there is a 410gr but I think you need a mold for that

Gotta respect the S&W 500, but I'm more of a Desert Eagle fan myself. I'd absolutely love to have a DE that could fire the .500 magnum but unfortunately since the DE is an automatic it would be impossible to squeeze that long cartridge into a magazine and grip that would fit into a human hand.

@iropeadope They make 275 and 300 grain round in lighter pressures for deer hunting. The recoil is around the same as a 44 mag and if you're going in to bear or hog territory you can use the bigger, hotter loads.

@Kersey475 Actually some bulletproof vests will stop a 500 magnum, especially military vests, like the interceptor. Interceptor is a Level 4 vest and will stop some rifle rounds. Most police will be wearing a Level 2 vest which will stop a .357 or maybe .44 mag, but a 500 magnum will zip right through it. It will pulverize a lock though

@lockheed22 A warrior should be capable in all forms of combat. Long range, short range and hand to hand. While I agree with you that gun beats hands, I wouldn't completely discredit someone from learning a practical self defense.

.44 rem is some big lead...the fact that .500 s&w dwarfs if is saying something. When you had the initial set up I was hoping that the .44 on the end was the .500, but not so. amazing round. what would be the application, maybe thick skinned game....it's too much for target shooting unless you're talking long range steel.
