Home gardens is a good idea not only for the reasons given by Hans but also because in these times being self-sufficient will be increasingly important to survive.
It is however frightening to hear reports from the US where the authorities are starting to outright ban homegardens! Supposedly because people can grow weeds and they need a permit and control. These tendencies must of course be resisted at all cost or else it will spread and we will all live under tyrrany.
