One thing I noticed very few relief pitchers don't have a slider or a cut fastball, and I am still yet to find a relief pitcher who throws a sinker as their main pitch.
man when i have a bullpen session with my friend i throw the slider and its a decent 1 and everything but it hurts my arm after an hour or two after i pitch however when i dont use the slider my arm does not hurt, i also add i have a bullpen session once a week, kind of like each start in the season, i was wondering if this is something i should pay attention to or it is normal for it to hurt if it is something to worry about should i stop throwing it.
@dalionsfan101 since it happens to me too it something to care about because if u dont know u will blow your arm out and have to get surgery... that being said when you have that session ease up on the power of your pitch and have an easy not so "how fast i can physically throw this pitch session". and i'll close by saying that if u have any use some muscle reileving cream sometime to loosen the muscles inside your arm so it will ease the bothering ache. i hope i helped
i throw a 2 seam knucklecurve ball and circlechanqeup i want to know if i should put a slider or anything thing else in my mechanics.. any other pitches
hey man thanks so much for your videos. been working on the slider and threw my first cg tonight. got the W. Thanks again for the help it really works
I am one of the fastest pitchers in my league but i get no break with my slider but my curve breaks really good any tips do i have to change my angle in my follow through?
I throw my slider with the pre-turned wrist like Steve Carlton shows on his web site Carlton32. I throw a short slider gripped liked a two seam fastball with the index finger off of the seam toward the middle finger and a long slider like Tom Seaver shows in his book, The Art Of Pitching. Carlos Marmol throws a short slider, while Randy Johnson used to throw a long slider. The slider is a very good pitch, maybe better than the curve for some pitchers.
@YouGoPro You are very welcome. Another good web site is the pitching professor. His book is called The Act Of Pitching and I've seen it on the Half web site(an Ebay company), for a few dollars. I own several books on pitching by Tom House, Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Ton Seaver, ect. Of course, each pitcher needs to find what works for them. That's what I like about your videos, lots of possible ways to throw pitches for people to try out and see what works for them.
@oldsidearmer Thanks. Were you a side armer? Do you know of any books or programs specifically for side arm pitchers? I am a side arm pitcher as well. Thanks again for the great info.
@YouGoPro I throw high sidearm, low 3/4 arm slot. Video of Eckersley is helpful. I have a few books with references to side armers but no real good instructional books. A good book you can get cheap is the Bill James/Rob Neyer pitching book. It's a history of pitches and pitching up to the 2003 season. Not too expensive used at Amazon or Ebay. When I pitch now, I tend to use the same arm slot for every pitch for better control and more deception. Still pitch in summer league some.
hey John Im a new pitcher in high school i just picked it up this year but im strong and i feel like i can pitch i got to pitching ranges alot what do u think i should throw ? like 4 pitches i should learn ?
@YouGoPro do you have any tips to avoid getting hit in the head by a pitch intentionally because im on a
JR. High baseball team and our pitcher pitches inthe 70's and yesterday when we were playing for a a state championship he got intentionally hit in the nose and had to get plastic surgery. The opposing pitcher also hit our centerfielder in the head and hurt him! What can we do to stop that?
hey geat video but im a younger pitcher im only twelve i have a good fastball but i havent learned many pitches i only no both fastballs and curveballs but im not positive will the slider mess my arm up?
@chaseDproductions i don't recommend throwing the slider or curveball until your body has matured. You may still be a year or two from there (im guessing). so be careful if you do try it
@PlatinumGamingX I would focus on your wrist and trying to stiffen it a little bit. When you are whipping or snapping your wrist you are trying to force the movement. Just be easy and let it happen. Let me know how it works out next time you try it.
@YouGoPro ok thank you i was throwing it in bullpen yesterday and was getting pretty good break but i ended up throwing slurves on accident in the game and was jus stayin with that,i also have a question about equipment, have u ever had the chance to use a wilson a2k i have a nokona and am looking to upgrade and i want the wilson a2k, is it a nice glove?
@PlatinumGamingX No I have never used the wilson a2k but it seems to be a very popular glove. Guys are always asking me about it and from the ones I've seen, they look and feel nice. To me a glove just has to feel comfortable and be durable for me to like it. I wear almost any glove as long as it doesn't look hideous.
@furriesbaseball hahahaha what does it do? I tell you what, if you make a video of "how to throw the furry ball" and it's decent, i'll upload it to my account and post an annotation to your account so you can get a bunch of views and subscribers. Let's see the Furry Ball video!!
@furriesbaseball look man it rises a bit i fooled alot a people with it i have to talk with the other members of my teAM if we want to post it cuz its like a secret pitch
@Ms21ch20 just so you know the curveball puts the least amount of stress on your elbow. The fastball is the worst pitch for your arm. Mind you any type of inproper pitch will destroy your arm
@Chentetorrez@MS21CH20@TDstealth2456 What do you guys think about the article on when to start (what age) throwing a curveball and/or slider. It's on my website under the pitching section. Let me know what you think. Sorry I would post a link but youtube is not letting me do that.
im 15 and i have a 4seam 2 seam(with good arm side run) change-up and i have a curve but i dont like to throw it because i dont want to mess with my arm....would the slider be a good finishing pitch? if not what is a good finishing pitch?
@MS21CH20@TDstealth2456 The slider is a great pitch and can be used as an "out pitch", or finishing pitch. A hard slider compliments a good 2 seam fastball very well. Just remember, if you are throwing it for a strike out to start it in the zone and let it break out of the zone.
how much difference in MPH is a slider and a curve?

I don't think it matters as long as they get people out. Any pitch can be nasty if the pitcher has mastered it.
