Poor pups are clearly still hungry, here let me scratch this plastic barrel to make it soft since I'm not allowed to have any Earth or grass...or natural environment whatsoever.....
@LanaV6 They're not wild, read the description, it was a project lead by a geneticist who was able to domesticate foxes through reproduction control, he recreated the conditions that lead our ancestors to domesticate wolves. That's why they're fur colors are all fucked up and not really fox-like.
@LanaV6 dogs were once wild. they are wolves. same species. we just bred them to be suited to living with us. a dog is NOT happy in the wild. someone has done the same thing with foxes.
So what are these foxes good for? I hope you don't have them just to keep them locked. Can they walk on a leash, obey, apport stuff? Can they catch mice? (they should) How do they behave on dog training grounds with obstacle course? What about the potential of training one for physiotherapy or assistant for the blind?
@FreemanStrong Do you know what the word "domesticated" means? Just like the dog was "bred down" from wolves, these animals are "bred down" from foxes. (The least aggressive and most "people-friendly" ones were bred generation after generation for about 20 years.) These aren't really foxes, just like dogs aren't wolves. These are a fox version of the domesticated dog.
I think your current set up is just fine and what you are doing is awesome! Most of the people I know with dogs leave them locked up in a small crate 9 or 10 hours a day and then wonder why they are crazy. Or they tie them up to a line and never interact with them. You have two beautiful pets and you obviously take good care of them and they love you.
@zabeer8 These are no longer wild animals. They have been breeding these foxes for over fifty years in order to domesticate them. There is no difference between them and cats or dogs - except the price is so high hopefully it will keep anyone who would hurt them from ever owning them. They are way better off than any cat or dog right now. The only difference is people like to be haters on anything and everything...not that you're a hater I'm just saying in general.
I think this experiment not only shed some incredible new light on what we know about the domestication of wild animals, but it produced a beautiful new pet species as well. However, we all know what has happened (and continues to happen) to so many dogs and cats who are in the hands of unfit owners -- they are abused, neglected or abandoned. As much as I want one of these amazing pets, I don't think they should be made available to the general public any time soon (which, alas, includes me...)
@notquiteginga they are already available and you can have one for 6 thousand dollars. Im pretty sure if you can spend that much your gonna value it and take care of it
@3v3ryus3rnam3istak3n Oh. Well $6000 is a pretty committing price to pay, but surely they'll just get cheaper and cheaper? Like, people's pet foxes will start havin' babies and then they'll have to try and get rid of those. But, meh, I dunno.
@clovera Maybe those narrow minded pet laws are for the best? While it means you and I can't own one, it also means the 'idiot brigade' can't, either! BTW, I own/rescue Basenjis which are considered semi-domestic dogs. If you have the right set up (a securely fenced property, no kids under 8, a responsible pet owner mindset) you'd probably find one of them plenty wild, particularly the Avongara's.
Are these foxes from the Belayev Experiment? They're incredible animals. Your facility for them is outstanding. Lovely to see how well you take care of them.
@DieFlammenwerfer Sibfox is directly associated with the Institution of Cytology and Genetics so the answer will be yes! I'm really amazed by the sheer variety of coat and pattern colors that emerged as a side-result from the behavioral selection.
It's too bad I'll never own or see one in person, as California here has one of the most narrow-minded pet laws on the planet. Even hedgehogs and gerbils are banned for crying out loud. Sigh.
You have to have a permit to own any animal classified as "Dangerous" in Texas. Foxes aren't classified as dangerous so no permit is required, same thing for wolves. Maybe you should move to Texas. :)
A Checklist for buying pets(My answers are past the ,) Do i need one, Nope Do i want one, Yup Do i have the money, Probably Are they legal, Not likely in my country Would it have downsides, Most likely Are they compatible with other domestic pets, Perhaps Would it harm Young kids, Not likely Will you be able to supply it with food, Yes Would you have a space to keep them, Nope Finally! Will they be friendly to you, Depending on how they were treated

hey i think you should create their home same as their habitat not the blue barrel and concrete as you can see the fox trying to dig in the blue barrel THUMB UP if you think he should.
@asyrafsani These foxes don't have a "habitat" any more than a golden retriever does. They are domesticated after something like fifty generations of selective breeding. It is in their nature now to depend on humans and live as housepets, unlike wild foxes which would probably not enjoy camping out in a blue barrel.
@emussmellfear You are so right about that if you put them in the wild they couldn't survive and PETA are a pack of idiots! They have been domesticate just like a dog or cat. I mean they wag their tails and pant just like a dog but with softer fur and they don't bark! If I had a lot of money to throw around I'd get me one these precious babies! BTW there are many wild foxes that are having a hard time finding food cause of over pop.
Nobody get all peta and complain that these animals should not be kept as pets. These foxes have been domesticated for hundreds of years and are no longer wild, so get over it.
@carllito12 Actually it only took fifty years; which is what's so amazing about this experiment, it raises the question if the wolf didn't take as long to domesticate as we had originally thought.
@YNot1989 O RLY? I saw a documentary about it a while back and i thought i remembered that this started in the 1800s, but i guess i just remembered wrong. Thanks for correcting my mistake.
It's sad that so many people still think they are wild. Don't doubt science. It can do amazing things. If I decide to live in an area where they are legal, I might get one.
Such an awesome experiment that produced these animals. Really, it's not surprising that domestication can be so very sped up. After all, canine domestication probably wasn't entirely intentional--probably not at all, in the beginning.
I would do ANYTHING to keep domesticated foxes (I would NEVER take a wild one, that's not fair for the animal) but it's not allowed to keep a fox where I live..even if they are domesticated.
And no, I'm not a little girl who thinks" WOAH THEY ARE SO CUTE I WANT ONE!!1!!" I love foxes since years, they are beautiful animals and I know really much about how you should treat them, how much space they need, etc.
@KingTossie Give your foxes a big hug from a huge fan ;) <3

This isn't right! They should have been released back into the wild! You can tell at least one thing from the video that the one fox doesn't like it. They are not meant to be pets! They are not dogs. Could you imagine spending your whole life in a kennel such as this? They are meant to be wild! Shame on these people!
@Gail419 WO WOWO. People are meant to be in the wild, since that is how we have been for most of our existence, right? We should take a hint from peta (killing animals), and kill every human that isnt running free, naked and in the forest.

@Gail419 Dude just shut up 4real why would he/she release DOMESTICATED foxes into the wild thts just dumb they'd die thats just like letting your domesticated dog to fend for itself.
@Gail419 so where do you think that a domesticated dog came from? Someone one day had to think that hey that wolf looks like a great i want it. Now centeries later we have a domesticated dog. Why is a dog ment to be a pet when it came from the wild and another species not ment to? Do animals come out with a domesticate me sticker on them? Do some reasearch before you start saying things.

@Gail419 housecats and housedogs started out wild. should they be realeased back into the wild? you can domesticate any animal. as long as they are treated right and with love there is no harm in it.
@Gail419 Okay, if my entire life was devoted to being there for someone, and that someone took care of me, didn't give a shit what I did to an extent, and gave me everything I would ever need. Yes, I could live in a kennel my whole life and not a fuck would be given.
Hi! I have a question if you are willing to answer since I am looking into getting a domesticated fox within the next couple of years. I was wondering how big the enclosure you have built for them is?
Does anyone know how silver foxes smell? I may be getting one and I've read they have a strong smell on some websites, but others have said the smell has become very mild or non-existent with the many years of breeding.
are you in the united kingdom? can you take these foxes on walkies? do they howl or bark?, i want to know so much about them, please tell me what you know, thanks
I love foxes and know so much of them that i need to have one as a good friend in my life, but i'll have to wait for a good moment because there is a lot of work that has to be done before getting one
I love the sounds Dima is making! One of the many moments that had me laughing. I have no idea how I would spell that sound out in text. It's like a *whine*, but it's not whining.
YAAAAAAAY!!!! I have been waiting so long to see homemade video from an owner/companion of the really tame Russian red foxes xD
I congratulate you on a very nice size outdoor pen, of excellent sturdy construction! I know myself all too well all the work that goes into building/designing one xD
Greetings from me, and my pet red fox Ron... currently the most viewed pet fox on youtube xD ^^
@JamiexLeex91 that is correct, i would never let mine out of the cage as they probally wont return, nor would they be able to survive that, but still for that 50/60 year of breeding they came a long way
@SakuranoIzzy well, I know how they did this, and it'd be easy to do with ducks, maybe even cheaper. simply sell the ducks that don't fit the breeding criteria and breed the ones that do, not to mention that ducks mature faster than foxes. in essence, thats actually what they're doing with the foxes, selling for funding for further generations, though since I can't afford one, I might make a dontation or something.
Poor pups are clearly still hungry, here let me scratch this plastic barrel to make it soft since I'm not allowed to have any Earth or grass...or natural environment whatsoever.....

Greetings from me, and my pet red fox Ron... currently the most viewed pet fox on youtube xD ^^
foxalbiazul 9 months ago 2
@JamiexLeex91 that is correct, i would never let mine out of the cage as they probally wont return, nor would they be able to survive that, but still for that 50/60 year of breeding they came a long way
KingTossie 9 months ago
hmmm, I like this, Science discovers how to increase the speed of domestication, and boom! Foxes as pets, whats next, Ducks that act like Dogs?
Zeuqe400 9 months ago 18
@Zeuqe400 Why do i get the feeling if i type "Duck that act like Dog" in the youtube search bar i will find it :P
KingTossie 9 months ago 25
@KingTossie you might just find some
HDorochimaru 9 months ago
@KingTossie
according to national geographic are categorised as "domesticated", for farming at least. i heard pet swans a make vicious "guarddog".
rebelanarch 7 months ago
@Zeuqe400 Maybe the domestication of Coyotes too? Maybe? Who knows.
Life is just one big mystery.
SakuranoIzzy 8 months ago
@SakuranoIzzy well, I know how they did this, and it'd be easy to do with ducks, maybe even cheaper. simply sell the ducks that don't fit the breeding criteria and breed the ones that do, not to mention that ducks mature faster than foxes. in essence, thats actually what they're doing with the foxes, selling for funding for further generations, though since I can't afford one, I might make a dontation or something.
Zeuqe400 8 months ago
@Zeuqe400 im hoping they create humans that don't talk shit on youtube posts... oh wait...
