@wreck93 They don't have to credit samples but it's there. Wikipedia: "There are three credited samples present on the album: "You Make Me Wanna Wiggle" by The Brothers Johnson was sampled for "Newjack","
To me, New Jack hasn't been effeciantly using the Bros sample, it's not like in Daft Punk's Discovery where it's impossible to hear the sample straight up.
New Jack is this same song with effects and a couple add ons
@Steffouf its not quite as simple as " effects and a couple add ons".. this is exactly the way filterhouse has always been produced, Daft punk especially... they are actually more obvious with 90% of theirs than Justice is. watch:
@FakeCup actually it is quite as simple as effects and add ons. all justice have done is layered distorted sythn lines then fed them through a sampler and then chopped it to bits. after that theyve 360 stereo panned the track turning it on its head panned to the middle to bring out the original songs effects and used them.
@Steffouf you are crazy LOL "Discovery" is shameless when put next to "Cross", the samples in cross are way more clever worked than in discovery. No discussion, you can say "Yeah justice sampled this, but wait just 5 seconds..", when you hear Daft Punk, you say "Omg, genius sample, but sounds the same the all song, just with some filters and edits". Gotta admit that Daft Punk started this sampling fever, but don't do it better than Justice.
@Katrapo not a fair comparison at all given the gear that exists today vs. then. they were using hardware samplers with limited capacity vs. a modern computer.
@zerojake EXACTLY..of course its going to have a hard job being anything like what justice has made it into cos its from the 70's!! , but this song inspired them
Gosh, get over it guys. Newjack wouldn't exist without Brothers Johnson.
Also, Newjack IS NOT a remix of this. Newjack is a track by Justice inspired by the old Daft Punk Discovery-era taking a sample and making it your own kind of thing.
I'm not dissing it, i just say that New Jack sounds better to my ears.
Plus I believe that you're wrong DJ's don't only take good tracks to make great remixes, sometimes their job is to enhance the original sound, cuz sampling something that is originaly good is too easy !
To even dare to compare this Funk masterpiece by the dynamic duo to a track which stole from the original is just something I can't comprehend... But to each his own...
In the meantime I am going to go back to my vinyl and play this one... L.O.U.D.!!!
awesome song, awesome sampling. I need to get into more of this shit, I usually skip the late 70s when I shop for records but this is positively funky.
1580 kday in LA used the intro as there jingle..but this song always reminded me of standing on the verge with alil mo riff, I LOVE THE GUITAR WAR thinggy wit one of them being hooked up to the talk box
it's not that he can't, it's that he's not trying to. In addition, sounds like a bass guitar ro something playing the exact same melody as the words to give it that effect.
great song, so many superb artists came out of this genre its unreal. Any budding disco music makers who dig this shizzle check out zero g's 'sounds of the 70's' plugin, its got shedloads of sounds like this, instant justice/daft punk house. nice.
Gad dang. Crazy sampling.

I honestly can't even understand THIS!
Pants3000 3 years ago
You can't? :S
bobafettuccine 3 years ago
From 0:18 to 0:24 is gibberish to me. That first singer can't articulate his words.
Pants3000 3 years ago
it's not that he can't, it's that he's not trying to. In addition, sounds like a bass guitar ro something playing the exact same melody as the words to give it that effect.

It's sounds like he's using a talk box. Damn you, talk box! You make the words inconceivable!
Pants3000 3 years ago 2
I don't think it's a talkbox. It may be, but I really don't think it is.
bobafettuccine 3 years ago
Either that or some sort of messed up wah. Still sounds like a talk box.

"This song is cool, lets turn it into an incredibly amazing french house song"
