  • I wish they still had Kiddy Land with Nickelodeon themed rides. I hate the Peanuts theme.

  • i f@cking luv this song and it goes perfect with this videos.... i know its cliche but it is a trip down memory lane, anyone who remembers kings island like this knew it when it was a one of a kind place.... now not so much... still fun but its lost something

  • @vwguy28 kings island is not the same place I went to as a kid late 80s the start of the 90s. Do you think that they tried to compete with cedar point, I do and when they did that they had no chance of beating them. Yes the rides at kings island were never on the same scale as the point but there was somthing great about it. Now It's just a 2ND class citizen I miss the old island and I think they tried too hard and it screwed them up forever. What do you think?

  • Football teammate taking me next year.. CANT ****ING WAIT

  • Comment removed

  • The original beast looks so beautiful, with the ponds next to it, to bad they where drained.

  • Back when King's Island was cool. Cedar Fair cares nothing of it's history and glory.

  • they should redo kings island and put it back the way its supposed to be.

yesterday i paid like 6 bucks for a bottle of water. thats terrible

  • yeah flight deck is good but know where near as awesome looking as the bat was. if arrow knew to bank the track at the turns it would have saved it because the unbanked turns caused too much stress on the swinging parts of each car on the train. thats why every swining coaster from arrow has banked turns on it.

  • .. but more better as far as a can of coke not costing 3 dollars etc etc

  • i find myself watching this vid alot.. the music puts me into such a lull. i remember being 7 or 8 years old and going to KI and looking at the track for the bat but the ride was never opened :( there were so many rumors about pepole being killed on the bat or the cars flying off the track but the rumors were all bs. i am 37 now. the KI of the late 70's and 80's was so much better than the new KI. before cedar fair or paramount's KI there was just KINGS ISLAND. not as big and fancy as today...

  • The Bat is just basically wat Flight Deck is now

  • I'm going tomorrow, and I can't wait.

The music makes this video depressing, but it shows the old true Kings Island! Wished I could have rode Screamin' Demon!

  • @protecterofwolves It was just a long wait in line then a loop, then a backwards loop then you got off.

  • I got to ride the Screamin Demon at Kings Island in 1986 and then again at Camden Park in West Virginia in 1997 it was a great ride but it was closed down in 2000 and scrapped in 2004.

  • @nimisus769 I've been to Camden Park while the coaster was still there, and I wish they could've fixed it, Camden Park today is just.. eh.

  • Was just there yesterday. Amazing to me how much has changed and then some things still look the same. Amazing footage thanks :)

  • you forget the safari park where the worker(s) were mauled. one happened when a guy left the safety of his jeep while in the lion area(rumors had him crazy wanting to pet the lion or he was drunk at the time)--the other was mauled overnite in safari, but his death "happened" at the hospital where he was ruled dead. there have been many little "incidents" where heart-attack/stroke occurred but the guest was pronounced dead later--the oddest one was a clown band tuba player struck by lightening

  • @TheWarcraftpeon You can't forget about Black Sunday. 3 people were killed there in 1 day. 1 woman fell out of the Flight Commander, and 2 people died in the pond next to german town. All in 1 day.

  • @TheWarcraftpeon Apparently the guy who got struck by lightning was the brother of my pediatric doctor as a child. I can't confirm it, but that's what I've heard.

  • Wow this looks quite amazing! Better than a lot of new coasters.

  • @johnlovesbridge sadly, it only went 35 mph :/ *wheeee!* lol!!!

  • Many rumors about The Bat. It's like the game of telephone...the more you hear the stories the more bizarre they get. What ever rumors you hear now are most likely not true. In any case it was replaced by the Vortex and can't people agree that the Vortex is awesome?

  • King's Island put the Vortex there whre The Bat was back in 1987....still wished they still had The Bat..it was an awesome coaster!! ahhh. the memories....

  • Very nice video, I loved the background music. Takes me back to the days of $19.99 season passes if you bought at Christmas time.

  • it was built on black top and when black top gets hot, it shifts. the shifting bent the track so the whole thing fell off of the track but amazingly, no one died,

  • @iamatallperson um no it wasnt built on black top and the reasons are to much stress on the wheels, suports, tracks, and had break fins mounted on the bottom of swinging cars

  • why did the tear it down? I can't remember. Did someone die on it?

  • @redsgal71 ya a couple

  • @moneymikemoore no one died on it

  • @redsgal71

They tore it down due to injuries. Mostly just people getting whip lash.

  • Comment removed

  • @intresselwetrust Contrary to popular rumor, no one was injured on the bat. They tore it down because the track was not banked, so there was excessive swinging that caused caused the shock absorbers (the yellow things) to be replaced almost daily. So high maintenance costs was the fate of the bat.

  • @Olmec1995 Kind of like The King Cobra. Kings Island confirmed that the cars to the ride are stored in the indoor warehouse that hold Flight Of Fear. And the tracks to King Cobra are in a building on KI property that can be seen when you are on the top of Son Of Beast. KI is still trying to sell King Cobra. I guess it cost a million a year in maintenace.

  • @intresselwetrust it was actaly torn down because of stress on the supports

  • Thanks for posting this! I never got to ride The Bat or Screamin' Demon, so this is the best I have. ;-)

  • When i was so tiny - remember Kigns island for me ment the beastie ;)

  • I was lucky enough to get to ride the Bat!

  • They got rid of The Beast? Why? It was the longest wood coaster ever. The Racer had been around when Kings Island was called Coney Island. The bat? I heard some girl's hair hot caught in the top part of the coaster. The managers of Kings Island need to wake up...if it ain't broke...don't fix it. Those rides were classics.

  • @SteveWard3928 no beast is still there lol. believe me i about shit myself when i saw it too. but i work there and i know its not gone. and as far as the if its not broken dont fix it thing. bat was a trainwreck from the begining. if u look u will notice that the track had almostno banking. this stresses the shocks on the ride. basiccaly the shocks couldnt handle the pressure and would break.. alot. so matitnence was very expensive and people would leave the ride in pain. fun yes but not to safe

  • @SteveWard3928 THE ORIGINAL "WORLDS LONGEST WOODEN ROLLER COASTER" THE BEAST IS STILL THERE AND HAS BEEN IN PERFECT OPERATION EVERY SUMMER SINCE IT`S OPENING IN 1979!

THE BEAST: STILL THERE! OPEN AND RUNNING GREAT!!!

  • first it was the bat, then top gun,now flight deck? man....TOO MANY NAMES.one time,i asked my dad where top gun was,and he was like, what's top gun? and i told him it was the ride with the rail on top,and he was like,oh....you mean flight deck?i felt stupid that day =.=

  • @Featherpool2 The Bat was a different coaster, Flight Deck has had only two names, the Bat has only had one name.

  • Just to clear up any stories of deaths on the Bat, there were none. I worked on the ride from the very first day it was operational. One of the trains had partially collapsed as it was climbing the second lift. Under each lift was a chain link fence structure. The portion of the train that had collapsed, was actually resting on that fence. The riders were shaken up, but there were absolutely no deaths or serious injuries. There were also problems with the overhead brakes & urethane wheels.

  • @CuzchrisCincy I always heard the a woman's hair got caught in the rollers of The Bat and it nearly scalped her.

  • @SteveWard3928 Just another one of the many urban legends out there.

  • @SteveWard3928 How is that even possible? She mush have had extremely long hair that was standing straight up at the time.

  • This video is very nostalgic and the way I'll always remember King's Island. I was one of the original ride operators on the Bat and will never forget the wonderful times I had working on it. This is the first time I have seen video of it in almost 30 years. Man, how fast all of those years have passed.

  • shane youre video makes me cry for all of the great rides and coasters that are gone RIP ,the bat , screamin deamon and king cobra

  • @JennifersStuff06 I heard from a worker who uesd to work for King's Island that they were doing a test run in the morning and it derailed.

  • I love how my dad says this is how he remembers Kings Island and when we went to the park this year he asked where's the Bat, lol.

  • as much as i love cedar point, cedar fairs destroyed a lot of king's island

  • @cantthinkofaname1115 Not nearly as much as Paramount had. Although I love how both companies have run Kings Island. Things change and people have to move on. It's the sad fact that we must all face. For instance, I never got the chance to ride King Cobra. :\

  • I was being sarcastic. No one ever died while on The Bat. They closed it due to design flaws that plagued the ride.

  • what accident?

  • I rode the Bat and it was one of my favorite rides. Second only to The Beast. I was on the ride the day that the accident happened. Scary to think that if I was further back in line I could have died that day.

  • The Bat is like The Vampire at chessington world of adventures in London :)

  • I LOVE KINGS ISLAND GETTIN GOLD PASSES THIS YEAR WOOT

  • yeah a bunch of people died on it :P

  • Kings Island was so much better before Cedar Fair got their hands on it...

  • @cartoonFreak66 I know right!! I would have loved to ride the Bat!!!! Looks fun.....

  • @cartoonFreak66 More like when Paramount got their hands on it.

  • the beastie's sign is soooo cute!!!!! i wish they would change it back to the beastie instead of the woodstock express. :'(

  • they should have had werner stengle work on the engineering for this ride. after working on alpenflung, he would have known the problems created by not banking the track and fixed them. then again Arrow should have looked into alpenflung's problem's and learned something before they did this. we might even have still ha this toay!

  • I love looking up history on parks, this one the most.

  • moast of these coaster are at canadas wonderland too like the beast is wild beast, king cobra is swky rider and top gun is the vortex?

  • @skiboy247 Top Gun and Vortex are the same types of rides, but don't have the same layout. The Beast and Wild Beast are both wooden coasters, but they have way different layouts, and The Beast is way better. ;)

  • Awesome watching this!! Got to ride the bat a few times one day, with my little brother, just before it was closed. It was great but my fav will always be THE BEAST! Rode that 25 times in 1 day with a friend once, and probably 150 times over all my visits there. Gettin a little old for coasters now, so vids are the next-best thing! Thanks!!

  • I wish i had a time machine

  • i luv kings island soooo much me and my friend go there all the time in the summer i luv diamond back

  • were is kings island?

  • @legomania2001 Cincinnati Ohio

  • I LOVE KINGS ISLAND I WENT THERE FOR THE HAUNTED THING BC MY B DAY IS OCTOBER 31 HOLLOWEEN LOL

  • They should bring this ride or one like it back..

  • @jamwell212 top gun is like it

  • Anyone know what happened to the parts from the Bat? Was the track scrapped and the cars sold?

  • We can all be sad that the bat didn't last more than a few years or we can be glad that it was taken down and we were given the Vortex. I wish we could still have both :( Great video BTW. I watch it all the time.

  • @Fleshdicer That's not true. That was at Batman: The Ride at some Six Flags park that decapitated a 17 year old guy.

  • Just for reference:

The Beast is still operating, the Racer is still operating with both trains going forward, the Beastie is the kids version of the Beast and is still operating, and Son of Beast is still there but hasn't run since about 2007 due to mechanical problems .

  • The beast and the racer are still there from what I remember from my last visit in 2009, though beast has been having problems the past few years....

  • The "Scoobie Doo" coaster was built for the 1972 opening of KI. It was renamed "The Beastie" in 1980. It later became the "Fairly Odd" coaster and is now called the "Woodstock Express".

  • I never got to ride The Bat, as it was shut down every single time I went to KI. However, it was quickly forgotten about when Top Gun opened....a very simliar coaster...that rarely shut down....lol.

  • @firstmusic00 I was just there today, and I was really looking forward to riding Top Gun, but it was closed... :(

  • @PokeTec13 Sorry to hear that. My 8 year old and I rode it several times about 3 weeks ago.

  • @PokeTec13 Top Gun was renamed Flight Deck. And if you already knew that, it may have actually been open. The enterance is blocked for aunt and you enter in the normal exit. For some reason.

  • damn that helix after the second lift ill looks amazing

  • What do you mean? The Beast and Racer are still there?

  • Nice video, and pretty well edited too, nice job.

  • The beast is still in the park.. Son of Beast is gone, and the Racer is still there too...

  • @jldc072100 The Son of Beast is still standing. However, it is not on the park map, and it is not operational.

  • @jesusfreak47331 Oh ok thanks, i thought it was gone..

  • Ah The Bat. It got torn down before I was old enough to ride it but I remember it being there when I went to KI with my parents

  • The Beast is still at Kings Island, though The Beastie is not.

  • this one failed next one did not fail

  • For some reason the blue racer is jerkier than the red one. i always ride the red cuz the blue gives me headaches. which makes me sad cuz blue is my favorite color :P

  • very nice great footage

  • isnt the racer and beast still there

  • @nelsonr12 yaa i went king's island yesterday those are the 2 legend's left :)

  • @tehnooblynoobs damn that sucks

  • i wish i couldve ridden this but it was taken out before i was even born. from what my parents have told me it seems like its pretty fun.

  • What is "The Beastie"? I only knew it as The Beast

  • @eamodec The Beastie was the name of the wooden kiddie coaster in the kids section.

  • my parents rode the bat

they said the swinging was a bit too aggressive but overall not bad

and they actually recycled the tracks for the "big bad wolf" at busch gardens in virginia (which was really fun)

  • The Beast is still one of the best coasters on the planet.

  • I love that the Racer was made(and atually ran)as a racing coaster. There's many others that call themselves "racing" coasters, but it's only 2 trains running simultaneously.

  • is the bat the flight deck now?

  • @bribri9910 no two different coasters

  • @bribri9910 The Top Gun at that park is now Flight Deck. They tore this one down and replaced it with Vortecks.

  • wait does the racer trains switch tracks at any point?

  • This is an amazing video! The music blends perfectly with the images...I miss those days.

  • @Fleshdicer nope that was an Urban Legend, no one was ever hurt on or by The Bat!!

  • the name of the cause is "Support the return of THE BAT to Kings Island"

  • @jaws3dfan i heard the bat dicapetated (beheaded) somone

  • Please join my cause, I am trying to get Kings Island to bring back THE BAT for it's 30th Anniversary!!!

  • hey stupid! Beast and Rracer is still there, DURRRRR!

  • wonderful video! i loved riding The Bat. It was the kind of ride that would make you say "wheee!" but nothing more. my grandma would have liked it!.....great music to the video, too!

  • I never got to ride The Bat. It was always broke down when I went! All I ever saw of it was a deserted track while waiting for The Beast. I miss those old days! It's sad now that The Beast doesn't draw the four hour line like it used to and I miss watching the fish eat people's spit in the pond!!

  • The racer went over water?

  • its called flight deck now

  • @FunAndOnly No, that's a different coaster. The bat was located where Vortex is now. Flight Deck (Was Top Gun) is located by the parking lot in front of Son of Beast.

  • @FunAndOnly no they are two different coasters. bat had almost absolute no banking which lead to the shocks to be replaced alot. costing the park alot and making them tear it down. and the design was improved into flight deck

  • @AsItNeverSeems no shit lol its how i troll

  • @FunAndOnly oh yea sorry. keep up the good work

  • Love this video i wasent boen in 81 but it gives me a idea what kings island use to look like! thanks a lot. And is SOB being taken down?

  • @razorbladebitch666 no its being redone and most of the layout will be changed to traditional out and back witch will fuck up the ride and make it not as good as it was

  • i hope they create a new ride i like to call the comet it goes 500 mph 65 loops 45 helix turs and one heck of a drop a 650ft drop at the start of the ride but first the coaster car gets pulled up to the drop like all coaster rides start

  • @bohrokthunder 500 mph would be impossible because of the force that would be created on your body. Also, 650 ft. would not be allowed for Kings Island because of how close it is to an airport. But at least you're thinking. ;)

  • @TeamApparition hmm well what if the drop wasnt as fast as the ride its self

  • @bohrokthunder 500 mph would be impossible because of the force that would be created on your body. Also, 650 ft. would not be allowed for Kings Island because of how close it is to an airport. But at least you're thinking. ;)

  • The bat seems like a scarier version of Flight Deck/Top Gun

  • Kings Island has had only 5 deaths associated to the park. May 13th 1983 a boy fell from the Eiffel Tower and was in an area he shouldn't have been. June 9th 1991 known as Black Sunday 3 deaths were reported. A lady fell from the Flight Commander, and 2 men were electrocuted in a pond trying to rescue another man in the pond who received an electric shock. August 8, 2009 a man died in the hospital suffering breathing problems after riding Firehawk.

  • @Lapbar The Boys name that died on the Eiffel tower was Johnny Just in case u didnt know.

  • @Lapbar and what was fc?

  • @razorbladebitch666 Flight Commander was an Intamin Flight Trainer flat ride. It sat where the Zodiac use to sit. It was opened in 1990 closed in 1995. Type in Flight Commander on youtube and you will find video of it.

  • Anyone who wants to dispute ride deaths please visit rideaccidents

  • @meatalgearsolidman64 Nobody was killed on the Bat. If you watch the video you will see the shocks system on the carts. Due to virtually no banking on the turns and constant swinging these shocks were under a great deal of stress. They were having to replace them on a daily basis. This lead to long downtimes and high upkeep costs. So Kings Island elected to tear down the experimental ride. Improvements were made to the ride desin which led to rides like Iron Dragon and Flight Deck.

  • Ahead of its time this one was. There are so many hanging type coasters now it seems. I remember going to KI before this was built, then hearing about very shortly after, like the next summer. I told my dad, "let's ride that first when we go back". Well it was gone by the time I was able to return. I think by then King Cobra was the new thing.

Great video. The music and footage together give a really nice juxtaposition.

  • beautiful song you really captured the pure joy of kings island. it makes me sad to think about those good times when you could be 10 years old and leave your parents at one ride then walk across the park for some other ride. and you wouldnt have to worry about predators or being kid naped . now a days you must worry about it, a horrible world it has come to be. good old kings island still stands waiting and watching for that day when kids and rollercoaster lovers alike will walk without worry.

  • couldn't they just remake the trains instead of tearing it down

  • Thanks for the video. I was not tall enough to ride it at the time, but I do remember all the crazy rumors that surrounded its demise.

  • The Bat was where the Vortex is now right?

  • @InternetCoasterNut That's right.

  • wow... i never knew this ride existed before top flight(/gun). Looked really fun. It's a shame I never got to ride it...

  • I was just too young to ride the bat. It's a shame they could never compensate for the stress on ride itself and keep it around a little longer. I can only guess but I imagine it felt like riding the Flight Deck, (Top Gun) ride.

  • What is this song?

  • @ELOfan1982:

The song is "Ladybird" by Tears for Fears. It's on their album "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" from 2004.

    Hope this helps!

  • Simply fantastic footage. Wonderful choice of song. Reminds me of what a special place King's Island used to be - then it all went corporate and parks weren't so rare anymore. It's still a great place - it just isn't such a...treat would be the word.

  • @bobdefalco True that, true that

  • My family has always been there starting with my grandma she an my grandpa had their first date there :) now Ive been going here I've been to kings island over 15 times and I enjoy everytime I go :D

  • wow i remember this ride!!! they had to condemn it cuz to many people were getting hurt on it if i remember correctly! i know they condemned it tho.

  • @nibornna It was not because people got hurt. It was because of technical problems. The underbanking of the track took a heavy toll on the ride's trains and structure. The ride eventually became a maintenance nightmare, and was condemned.

Compare the track to Top Gun (Flight Deck): Top Gun is heavily banked, this is not.

  • @AdrenalineAddict610 well i remember they condemned it. like i said i can't remember why, but i do remember they condemned it. thank's for refreshing my memory!! peace to ya!!!

  • There's a Big Bad Wolf tribute with this same song.

  • the beast and racer are bother there still

  • awesome video

  • yes yes very well edited. i watch this a lot. u did very well. thank u for posting this again

  • Beautifully edited with a great song. I remember Kings Island in those days. Lovely. Thanks.

  • My mom tells me a story about riding the bat when I was 4...I nearly fell out! But I grew up to live for summers and KI's season passes!

  • the beast and the racer are still there!

  • whats the song

  • The song is an old Tears For Fears song called "Ladybird"

  • Dude...The Bat looks just like Top Gun....is it just renamed or what?

  • naw, my brother told me all about that coaster. the brakes were not stopping the cars at the station and had some tech problems. but when top gun came outthe first year, he said "oh my god, this where the bat use to be and it was an under track coaster too"

  • The BAT was located where the Vortex is now. They even used some of the orignal station from the BAT

  • ooohhhh.....so it was kinda near the beast then....

  • @ChouBunny Oh noooo the bat was removed n '83 just two years after it opened it had soo many problems mainly like danny said the structure but in a season it only ran at most four times it was a total mess. Flight deck has banked turns and is still running today but not for long i think its getting to that point if they get a new coaster it could be gone.......:)

  • I don't understand why whatever company that bought out Arrow doesn't make these type of coasters anymore. :(

  • Bcuz they just arent the highlight of thrills nothing special no loops corkscrews or anything plus they cost too much to operate and it just isnt what thrill seekers arent looking for today they cant be built too huge and the only highlight is that they swing out which isnt cool they arent 200+ plus feet tall and they dont have loops or anything. thats why

  • nbtrainlvr94 is right - the suspended wouldn't draw crowds like it did in the 80's. S&S have developed a coaster that sort of draws from it though & combines it with the behavior of Arrow's 4D train - go to the S&S Power site & look at Free Fly under 'coasters'. You get the swing but also 2 different experiences depending on which car you're in. And their El Loco coasters are incredible.

  • What was that attraction at 0:19 ? It looks like the old Sky Whirl from Great America.

  • This video almost makes me cry. I remember being 6 and my sister and brother in law taking me. I saw the sign for the bat but it was down for repair and I don't think it ever came back up. I love the footage of the racer cars racing against each other. Haven't seen that for years.

  • @betacrash

I cried too. :( Although I was born way after the bats time it is just so historical and means so much to me.

  • I rode this only one time around 81 or so. My friend from MI said, man that ride don't feel right.
