The pallets are NOT expensive.. or it depends what you call expensive. The pallet/image plate is about $6 US Dollars.

Man, I do NOT understand how you can paint your nails like that with no extra on the sides. I always get it everywhere and have to go back with a Q-tip and nail polish remover. I've been painting my nails for like 4 years now too.

@EccentricPuzzle depends on the brush, a lot of the time. also good hand-eye coordination helps. I've been painting mine for 7+ years but sometimes I still make a mess... some colors are worse than others.

Well..the trick is..not to paint your WHOLE nail..leave the edges nude.. your nails will appear more long&lean..and..it's easy to paint.
